What I would Have Done with RNH
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>He took a bit of a hometown discount so that the team could build a little more. Term over $$$, with a full NMC. Gurianov for a 1st and 2nd seems a little steep to me. And I don't think CAR trades Tuevo for RNH straight up.</div></div>
I did a armchair gm team asking what gurianov’s value is, was looking to see what other fans think he’s worth (because stars fans might over value players a little bit). Only responses I got (from other Stars fans) was basically “why trade Gurianov?”. I won’t get into why he’s not a great fit in Dallas right now and getting rid of one if the guys due for a new contracts the next few seasons to ensure they can still afford Robertson, Oettinger and Hintz who are all much more important to keep. Getting rid of him now while he’s on a cheap deal and his value is probably as good as it will get.
I suggested maybe he’s not worth a full on 1st but a 2nd plus a 1st that’s a bit earlier (3-5 spots) in the draft for the Stars first and Gurianov.

Gotcha, that makes a little more sense.
We only get hometown discounts from old guys that want to finish their careers in Toronto.

sure, I'm not completely against the idea of trading him, but I think we should give him and the core one more chance to figure it out. Before this year's playoffs can we confidently say we actually iced a playoff ready team? All the teams that met Boston or Washington had awful defense and inconsistent goaltending, and then this year and last we had horrible injury luck
Im as frustrated as everyone else, but we should give the core at least one more chance

Dubas confirms Matthews and Marner aren’t going anywhere
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>I'll preface this by saying as an Oilers' fan, I'm all Dubas all the way. I want the Leafs to succeed because I think they're on the frontier of where this sport should be headed. Keeping the big four together and continuing to address depth is the only meaningful way forward.
I suspect Hallander starts at minimum with the Marlies, especially if Dubas wants to keep him as a pivot as opposed to a LW. His NHLe is only 82GP - 13.325G - 11.275 - 24.600P which misses the cutoff for third-line production (I use 0.33P/GP as a staunch cutoff, and even then I prefer the number being closer to 0.4). Dubas will like the strength that Hallander-Amirov bring to the Marlies. Robertson's NHLe is poised to get close to the half-point-per-game mark and no doubt I expect him to be on the roster as either the #2 or #3LW.
I suspect Liljegren is going to be traded, but I'm not sure what for. Bogosian played <em>really</em> well this year and I can't help but think he'll be one of those value contracts for the Leafs a la Spezza that continues to sign cheap until they've won a cup. I find it damning that he still hasn't been an NHL presence after his D+4 year and suspect the move will be to address the #3C.
Hyman's back without question and a hometown discount at around $4M with lots of term wouldn't surprise me.
I don't know if you bring Simmonds or Thornton back. They didn't accomplish much and weren't as effective as I imagine Dubas had hoped. There has to be better players out there to replace them with. I like Barclay Goodrow on a one-year deal and I think he'd like the fit too. A Goodrow - Brooks - Spezza 4th line is a very good 4th line. Freddie will probably be too cost-prohibitive for the Leafs. I suspect they're in the market for a $2M/2y goaltender to tandem with Campbell. I wonder if an Engvall-Khudobin swap with some retention makes sense for the Leafs. It very much works for the Stars, given their current three-headed goaltending monster.</div></div>
Thanks for saying this. The Oilers and the Leafs were the most exciting teams in Canada this year, and I think it's bad news for the league to see both of them out so early - not to mention a star player leaving on a stretcher on game 1. I'm not interested in that kind of butchery. No offense to Jets and Habs fans, but a series featuring McDavid vs Matthews would have been one of the best the sport has to offer.
I also think Dubas does a good job at evaluating talent and promoting good moral values within the organization. Signing contracts is the only weakness. I don't think 4M for Hyman is a discount - former teammate Connor Brown does a similarly important job at a 3.6M AAV, and there will be fantastic opportunities in this price range and below on the UFA market this summer. I think the field is wide open for Dubas to further improve the roster for next year.

I want this core to win. Not another core where Marner or Nylander were moved but this core with JT, Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. To much change means chemistry goes out the window and team will spend to much time adjusting
next year we will most likely see Hallander, Robertson and Liligren graduate. Youth often brings more motivation and who knows Robertson may win the Calder (or is he not illegible anymore I don't know)
Spezza, Simmons and potentially thorton are coming back. Leadership and grit
Freddie could come back. Experienced goalie who we know when healthy is amazing
Hyman could come back. Bleeds blue and white for life</div></div>

that "second line centre" would be a 1st line centre on 90% of the teams in the league. So tell me how many teams can withstand losing their #1 centre in game 1, and still go on to win the cup? ... the answer is 0 and if you say anything else than you're lying to yourself.
Even if Toronto woulda won this series and moved on, they weren't winning the cup with a centre core of Matthews, Kerfoot, Engvall, and Spezza. & you're shooting straight BS if you think they should have.

I don't think he counted on the Rocket Richard winner and his teammate who had more points than him being absolutely useless in the playoffs.</div></div>
Montreal had the leafs number, they figured out how to can Matthews and Marner, and did so FLAWLESSLY.
does that mean anybody should be traded? IMO, nope. Montreal adjusted and figured out how to can us after game five, we didnt respond and adjust accordingly. IMO this one is on the coaches for not studying how to respond to montreal's stingy game.

I've been quite impressed with Kerfoot so far this series. He's one of a few guys on the roster that has been tasked with changing roles. To me, he's done a great job of killing penalties and battling through a rough series being a smaller guy. I've noticed he's been winning a good chunk of draws on the PK as well which has been a big factor in how well the kill has been as of late.
Kadri, as talented as the guys is. Taking stupid penalties and getting suspensions in the playoffs is nothing but a distraction to the team. I don't think he has much respect in the league, I think it's time the hockey world moves on from him imo.

Typically, I'd agree with you, but you have to consider how absolutely weak the Pacific is going to be next year. The rebuilding Kings are projected to be in a battle with the Flames or Canucks for the 4th seed. Anaheim and San Jose are in shambles. If Calgary opts to retool or either of the Canucks or Kings have a setback, it's miles of open highway for the Kraken.

It was out of the code. Didn't have to be an intentional hit but Foligno is stepping up for his teammate there.. his captain. Respect to Perry who clearly said he was fine with the fight and tried to jump Foligno to start. But don't worry about pleasing idiotic fans. Hockey is hockey. It's part of the game.
