Ideal option Vegas Calgary NO UFA
Stastny was almost 1 ppg as a 2C this year, the guy still has value
What people missed from the leafs trade is that CAR was expected to buyout the Marleau contract with actual dollars, thus the 1st pick

Pens need defense, they can’t give away one of their better D for peanuts (retain 1M can send them over the cap as well)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OrganizedConfusion55</b></div><div>Tuch instead of Haula?</div></div>
I think Tuch is one of the few players in their long term plan, probably change the 1st to a 2nd + 4th or something
Haula maybe a steal though, dude broke his leg, but scored almost 30 goals playing 2nd line center in 2018

Woww, finally a trade that doesn't require Vegas paying a 1st round pick to give away their players loll
The 1st maybe a little overpayment though, but after the JT Miller trade, I have no idea

boring but likely
McNabb is their cheaper/cost effective D who can play top minutes, doesn't make sense for vegas to trade him.
After the leafs trade everyone wants a 1st to take on useful players loll

Low end pieces won't get you a top forward.
Only way Jets do it is probably Boeser 1 for 1 since you already traded the 1st round pick, but the Boeser cap hit is too expensive for them, so doesn't work either.

Trade idea with VGK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Linlan</b></div><div>Have you seen VGK cap? They’re already around 2M OVER the cap and haven’t even begun signing their RFA and UFA’s, Clarkson can’t be put on LTIR until the season starts and by then they need to have given out their contract already which they can’t cause they can only exceed the cap by 10% during the off-season and they will immediately be at that limit with only the Karlsson contract
Substract Clarkson and add Karlsson on the team and VGK are still over the cap with players to sign. Eakin is expendable with Class coming up but due to the cap hell he won’t bring any value in particular. Eakin is IMO worth at tops a 2nd (defensive 30-40p 3C with 1 year left until UFA) but not with his team in desperate need for cap relief
Do you think Marleau was so bad player Toronto had to give up a 1st?
Do you think Subban was so bad New Jersey only had to give up some B-prospect and a couple of 2nd’s?
No and no, cap space is a asset and that’s what VGK will get but to get asset you need to give asset and Eakin+Clarkson=9.1M in cap relief and NYR would only get around 30-40p for that which is why IMO a 1st have to be included if VGK wanna keep most of their roster intact and most important, under contract
P.s sorry for long read, I can get ahead of myself sometimes when I wanna explain something as good as possible</div></div>
Leafs gave the canes a 1st because it’s highly likely they’ll have to buy Marleau out, it’s a business and few million dollars ain’t a small number; on the other hand Clarkson’s contract doesn’t carry any real money, so there’s a big difference.
For the Subban trade, I feel like Nashville got fleeced, but remember Subban carries a 9 million cap hit and is declining, all Vegas players are on much smaller and controllable contracts, so more teams will be in on them (New Jersey was the only team willing to take Subban’s full contract)
The JT Miller trade showed that you can still get value for ok players under cap pressure

Do The Thing With Pitt - Bring on the Whining
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>Lol. Didn't know that #5-6 guys help shut down the top line in hockey in the playoffs at 5 on 5.. I guess if that's what they do, then yeah he's a bottom pairing guy lol.</div></div>
yeah, erik gudbranson was Pens best shutdown D in the later part of the season and the playoffs, are your telling me he's top 4 material as well loll? Looking at the normal stats, the advanced stats, Zaitsev's really just a 5-6 guy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>It's not a question of why Toronto doesn't keep him, the player requested a trade. To keep the player and locker room happy, a trade is best. Zaitsev is a #4-5 guy. He's slightly overpaid and a bit too long of a deal, but he certainly has value</div></div>
nah, he's a 5-6 guy who's paid 1.5-2 million too much and for way too long. He's still a NHL level defenseman so maybe there's some value to teams like the nucks or the yotes, but I don't think the return will be high

Do The Thing With Pitt - Bring on the Whining
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeyfanatic05</b></div><div>Ok then Ill break down this trade for you since you think I'm over valuing Letang. Why would it make sense to trade the pens best defenseman when their blue line is already awful for Zaitsev, who is not close to being a good replacement, a 1st rounder that carries no value to pittsburgh since they never draft in the 1st round, and Kapanen, a winger that they already traded and needs a new contract and the pens do not have the money to pay that? To get certain players, teams need to overpay. Letang is one of those players. Really not a hard concept to understand</div></div>
Bruh, leafs fans opinion on Zaitsev switched from someone who should be kidnapped and buried in Siberia to the most underrated RHD in the NHL the instance the trade rumor started. I don't think you can win an argument. By the way, Letang should only be traded for a young D and a top prospect; if the offer isn't there, it'll be stupid to move him

It is not out of realm of possibility he could see Z as a decent top 4 replacement and maximize what he can get for Letang/free up cap space if Phil wont waive.</div></div>
If JR saw Zaitsev as a decent top 4 replacement Lemieux better fire his ass. And if Zaitsev is indeed a decent top 4 D, why doesn't Toronto keep him

Sutter is still useful as a defensive player, for them to take Lucic you probably have to retain 1M and straight up pay a 2nd pick
and spare parts and cap dump + Kailer for Kessel? Pitt is looking for quality not quantity (he won't waive for Edmonton anyway)
