do it now
Sokolov on the Senators ahead of Grieg is criminal.
Thomson making the big club is a looong shot. Hamonic is signed, they won't sit him. JBD is ahead of Thomson, and he'll be the 7th D.
You can't have MacEwen as part of the main line-up, he'll only dress against the Leafs, Habs and Bruins, or any team that is icing a fighter. Parker Kelly will get 4th line and PK minutes.
The trade doesn't need Brannstrom or a 4th coming back.
Pinto won't get 2.5, his comps put him just a tick below 2, so Ottawa gets in at 2.1ish.

Ottawa can't afford Fleury, Petan is a wash, and throwing in a pair of picks on Sokolov and Ostapchuk to essentially get a minor leaguer, an unaffordable, stop gap, goalie, and 3 low picks. I say Ottawa passes.

Detroit is too high on Berggren for them to make that deal. I doubt it would happen. Also, New York is not giving up on Lafreniere, so I doubt they make that move for a single pick, especially at 17 this year. There isn't a whole lot that really says a hit outside of the top 9 this year.

As for Saros, I agree with you. It’s not like Nashville is shopping him around. That’s why it would take a crazy offer for Nashville to move him. I believe it was reported today Nashville was asking for two firsts and two blue chip prospects, meaning Saros isn’t getting moved.</div></div>
Right now, yeah... Historically, they value Centers. Thanks for the easy input from a site that we are currently posting in.

Bye Cat - Sign and Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RC_burn</b></div><div>He's not going to be a top 6 guy and he's never going to be fast, but his skating has been improving year after year. His 5 game stint in the NHL last year showed how he can contribute in the bottom 6 and provide some secondary scoring. Maybe he won't make it and/or maybe he won't be useful, but he's on the margins and he still has a chance.</div></div>
I've watched Sokolov closely both in Belleville and his games in Ottawa. His skating has not improved very much. He was not impactful at all in his stint with Ottawa, and that is primarily due to his lack of sense in the defensive and neutral zones. In the offensive zone, at the AHL level, he has a nose for the net, and wants to be in tight and get those chances. At the NHL level, he was far too much of a perimeter player in the offensive zone, almost afraid to get in dirty.

Debrincat is also rumored to want out, so there isn’t a ton of leverage for Ottawa. For Ottawa’s sake, hopefully they can pull off a deal like Calgary did with Tkachuk. Ottawa is trading him after a down year, so it may be tough to maximize the return. That being said, I think NSH would have to accept the original offer here.</div></div>
Not a chance. Nashville does not spend big on wingers, they value centers. Also, Nashville has no reason to trade Saros, right now.

The goalie market is not at an all-time high. It is swinging in favor of the player at the moment, I will agree. This still doesn't mean you aren't overvaluing Saros. Also, not a top 3 in the league, which affirms my assertion at overvaluing him. He is a very good goalie, that is not up for debate, but not top 3.

I won’t debate your points on Paul vs Sokolov. Paul was a terrible skater but worked hard to get to where he is now and he can play nasty when needed. All I am saying is I would give Sokolov another year to mature , he seems to have improved each of the last 3 years. Again if you can fill that slot with a better 200 foot player i would vote yes. Ottawa need some 4th line grit and peskiness.</div></div>
I couldn't tell you who the replacement for Gauthier would be, but I believe Ottawa wants someone else.
Sokolov does not have the same Hockey IQ as Paul, and does not put himself in good spots outside of the offensive zone. Another good comparison would be Mark Stone. Mark Stone began with very poor skating mechanics and ability. He worked tremendously hard to get to a point where his skating was good enough for his IQ to put him in great spots. Sokolov, even in Belleville does not show this. I do believe Ottawa will give him 1 more year to show that he can improve, but I think the leash is now very short.

4 - I believe Tatar is more concerned with money at this stage, and would not sign in a Canadian market.
5 - Andlauer was vocal about getting him out in Montreal, doubt he or other potential owners want Bergevin
7 - I believe Ottawa has said they are moving on from him.[/quote]

You are overvaluing Saros, here, by a lot.
It's a moot point, anyway. Nashville is not in the habit of spending huge money on wingers.

a new look for sens
New Jersey would never want to tie up that much money in a winger. Bratt is also not the return Ottawa needs. Ottawa needs to be mindful of dollars coming back in after the departure of DeBrincat.
I strongly believe that is a very large overpay on Carter Hart. Hart is not an elite goaltender. To trade 1st, a high prospect, a roster player and a prospect goalie seems way too stepp, and would Hart really benefit Ottawa? Would Ottawa benefit Hart? Doesn't feel like a good fit.

Gauthier, although I believe he is a solid 4th line presence, won't be brought back, because Ottawa doesn't feel the same way. I think they believe they can fill the role with a cheaper player, not that Gauthier is expensive, but in Ottawa's position, every dollar counts.
The difference between Paul and Sokolov is very clear. Hockey Sense. Nick Paul, although not a great skater, is a far better skater than Sokolov, and was also able to put himself in better positions to make up for his lack of speed. Further to that, Paul is a C, and brings more value in that alone. I like Sokolov, the person. It's just he doesn't have what it takes to be NHL ready. I said the same thing about Christian Wolanin, and ended up having a private discussion with him about it. He didn't take offense to my point of view, but did say he looked forward to proving me wrong, and I think he did, he turned out better than I thought he would... so my opinion is far from being accurate.

Ottawa’s defense is not worse than Vancouver’s. We had OEL and Myers in our top 3 ATOI this season. Demko’s overall stats are brought down due to the fact that he plays in front of a historically bad PK and a terrible defense group. At 5v5 he’s elite while Forsberg is average. When healthy Demko is a top 7 goalie in the league</div></div>
That's a big stretch. A very big stretch. I think you're also undervaluing Forsberg, while overvaluing Demko. To say that Vancouver has worse D than Ottawa, clearly shows you didn't watch enough Ottawa games.

Absolutely intriguing deal with Nashville. I think Nashville balks at giving up Parssinen, but it would probably be given a lot of consideration. Lankinen is an interesting option as a Goaltender. The content of the deal is equitable.
I don't see Sokolov ever cracking the NHL lineup, though. He just doesn't have the skating ability, and doesn't possess the awareness to make up for it.

1. Far too little of a return for DeBrincat.
2. San Jose are not in a position to trade for DeBrincat.
3. Derrick Brassard is most likely done after that injury, unfortunately.
4. Tatar isn't signing here.
5. Beregevin won't be the GM, ever.
6. Patrick Roy might be the next head coach, if Andlauer gets the team.
7. Julien Gauthier won't be brought back.
8. Egor Sokolov is not an NHL player. He just isn't. I love the personality, and the drive, but his skating and defensive play are far below NHL standards, so much so, that offensive capability isn't enough to warrant a stay.
9. I noticed Brannstrom is gone, Ottawa won't let him walk for free.
10. Thomson is not the first choice to bring up, Bernard-Docker is.
11. Ottawa is looking at bringing in a Goalie, too, so might want to address that.

Interesting. I don't see NYR paying that high of a price for Miller. That is more than double what Miller is worth.
As for the Ottawa trade, Ottawa would take that all day, so long as they had a goalie lined up in Free Agency or through another trade.
The Toronto trade is interesting... why would you want Matt Murray? and since you got Forsberg from Ottawa, I'd start Forsberg over Murray any day.

Ottawa declines that deal. Why is Ottawa paying Washington, for Washington to dump salary? Ottawa doesn't have the space, they won't trade a solid prospect for an overpaid, underachieving washout, and then toss the higher of the picks as a kicker...

I am extremely curious. If you have a link or anything please let me know. I did some quick searching and couldn't find anything. I'm fairly up to date with Pens rumors, and never heard this one. And to be fair, BR isn't the pinnacle of trustworthiness lol. I'm not trying to **** on your trade or anything lol - I think it's an interesting one. Would prefer if it was the 24 1st round pick - but I'd still consider this trade for sure. I just think there's a better chance of me winning the lottery this year than Rust being traded to Ottawa.
P.S. if this trade happens I'm buying a lottery ticket and giving you 1% of the winnings</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>Where did you find these rumblings?
It's not - I'm not trying to say that it is. It's the fact that they're in Canada and not any better than the Pens. Plus the Pens are the only team he's played on and he gets to play alongside Crosby/Malkin. The only teams that you could really possibly make an argument that he would waive for are DET(hometown) or a top team in the US like COL or something if he thinks they have a way better chance of winning. Even then the chances are slim to none.</div></div>
I'm not disagreeing with you that Ottawa would not be his 1st choice, but honestly, only he knows who he'd waive for and why. Also, Bleacher Report had something on it.

I know he has a no move clause, but there have been rumblings that he may want out. Ottawa isn't the former desolate destination that is was for the past decade. Rust might want to play with Stutzle, Tkachuk, Norris, Chabot, Chychrun...
