Lol how come buffalo fans keep pushing mitts to Minnesota? I know he’s from mn, but mn has never wanted him.

Rangers trade deadline
Hartman being on pace for 30 goals and a previous 30 goal scorer on a good contract, I think would cost you a fair bit more than a 3rd and a 5th, even as a rental. I imagine as a rental would be a 2nd but with contract I would think at least a 1st+

Wild would offer you a 4th for mitts. This trade is ridiculous as shown. Maybe if it were cozens.

Faber will be Minnesota’s next captain and it’s not even close. He’ll be with the wild for life. I mean like McDavid or someone I’m sure, but nothing like this.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>asauer1122</b></div><div>I mean, not saying thats the trade, but to say mitts isnt something wild are looking for isnt super accurate. Mitts is a great player anywhere for the top 9 that can play in most situations. Most teams in the league would be able to use that</div></div>
Not what the wild are looking for. Especially not in need of a new deal. A 3c and a 2nd or 3rd pair defender both looking for new deals for a 1A goalie, 2nd pair defender, just drafted 1st round c and a 2nd. Yea that’s a very lopsided deal. I mean if it was cozens or Thompson then that would be reasonable valuation. But this is not.

Can’t picture Minnesota touching that. They have a ton of defensive prospects coming the next couple years that coincide with spurgeons deal ending. They won’t want to burden themselves with that contract and term for a second. You’d have to add a lot from Ottawa to entice them.

I’d imagine that’s a conditional pick, a 3rd that’s a 2nd for making it to the conference finals and a 1st for the cup finals.
But yea fleury coming in to back up talbot again would be amazing and hilarious

With wallstedt in the wings the last thing the wild will do is trade for another young goalie.
The wild need a top pair D or another star winger. They have 2/3c’s, 2nd/3rd pair d and a star goalie on their way. Add that to a 1C in rossi and a #1d in Faber they have a lot of young players for the next 5 years. So unless there’s another boldy/Faber caliber talent for the wild as a d or wing they just aren’t particularly good trading partners.

With a proposed ottawa deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Well if a team is playing like complete **** in front of their goalie, it's only natural a goalie is going to look much worse statistically. Look at Gibson in Anaheim. That doesn't mean the goalie is a product of a system though. I'm not saying Gus is Dominik Hasek here, but he's clearly an above average starting goaltender at this point.</div></div>
Fully agree, I would just expect their combined numbers - vanacek/Gus to more meet in the middle after a trade like this vs stay so far apart. Which is probably worth the picks for nj. Plus the extra year of term. If I remember right Gus had 1 more year

Pick is gong the wrong way in that trade. Hartman has better production and a better contract with more term.. should be a 3rd or late 2nd going to the wild.

With a proposed ottawa deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Typically when it's the system, you don't have a situation where one goalie has a .921 sv%, 4th in the league, and the other has a .905 sv%, 39th in the league, in that same timeframe. Or one has a 30.9 GSAA and the other has a 1.7 in the same time.
If it was the system, those numbers would be a lot closer. Remember, they've played basically the same amount of games and minutes.
It's not the system.</div></div>
But before the wild started playing a more sound system, werent both Gus and fleury bottom 5 in the league by that metric? Idk maybe I’m still jaded by the dubnyk dynamite season followed by 3 season bottom of the barrel tending.

The team isn't winning anything right now so you might as well get an extra 1st and just roll with Vanacek/Wallstedt next year and reassess where Wallstedt is after that.</div></div>
I still think that Gus’s success is as much a product of the mn system as his own play. I think back in Ottawa or New Jersey with sub par defense he’d be much more human as a goalie.

EA Sports Trade
I’d love to see zebras in wild green but honestly I don’t see them as great trade partnere. The wild do have a lot of centers coming up the pipe line, especially if they think yurov would be a viable center. That being the case - marat, yurov, ek and rossi is a pretty sweet young stable of high talent centers. I think they would more likely be on the look for a high end wing or a top pair defender.than a puck wizard which is what they expected from granlund.

Big Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>So if Tuch was essentially Middlestedt and Krebs was essentially a 1st round pick still, the trades were about the same. I didn't actually say Ek was Eichel, I was pushing back on your debunked claim that the suggested return Minnesota would want was more than any player had received in the past 30 years. I am also saying 100% Eichel had the stain on him at the time of not knowing what Vegas was actually getting due to his injury. You know what you're getting in JEEK.
Currently however? They're not <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/786825?post_id=4584063">far off</a> in contract value and getting $8.9m in value out of a $5.25m cap hit player is a pretty sweet deal compared to $10.1m value on a $10m cap hit. Eichel puts up more points, JEEK has been a top 10 Selke nominee the last few seasons so they're just different types of players.
You still can't name another player with 5 years left that's been traded can you? Keep shifting the goalpost all you want, you could at least admit you don't know of one so we can both agree the likelihood the Wild would even consider moving JEEK is slim to none and it would take a stupid overpayment to get them to consider. The trade we're talking about is a stupid overpayment btw. Buffalo would need to be pretty dumb to do it, just like I honestly thought Vegas was insane to give up what they did for Eichel given his health but hey that seemed to work out for them so what do I know.</div></div>
I did think sabres fans would recognize the compare to eichel. Nearly twice the cap hit injury prone and a total diva be ek who’s everything you want in a player. He produces, gives 100% every shift, plays injured, steal of a contract, in his prime and signed long term. Any team in the nhl’s ears would perk up in a heartbeat if there was a wiff of ek being on the trading block. With eichel only a handful of teams kicked tires because of his cap hit and cost. Ek’s cap hit would be a blessing for any team.

Most Expensive Defense Ever
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>Did they though?
I like Spurgeon as a player, but man, you can't ignore how injury prone he's been the last season or so and that's only likely to get worse as he gets older. I think if the Wild had a chance to get out from under his cap hit, no matter the return, they'd probably at least consider it if they had a way to reallocate his cap to improve the team.</div></div>
I suppose that depends on how bullish you think Guerin is on his captain and whether or not spurgeon wants to move. If spurgeon says I want out, then yea probably gets a 2nd and a prospect or something not major. But if Guerin wants him to stay then it would take a haul.
