Believe whatever you want but history tends to repeat itself. Maybe he returns a bit more than a 3rd but trades like the OP's are completely out to lunch. He would certainly not return even half of that

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>When did 31 points equate to 60+? Hell it's barely half ROFLMFAO, math is hard for you isn’t it?!
Barrie was traded for Ekholm hence the need to attach a 1st and top prospect. The trade was technically 2 1sts and a replacement for Ekholm but the Oilers needed to attach cap as well so they added Barrie in much the same way that Vegas added Tatar in the Patches deal. A player is attached as a cap offset isn't the same as a player traded with a 1st to dump his contract. I just love reading your posts they make me laugh every time with how little you know about hockey and how you try to sound intelligent but utterly fall short.
Matheson has 32 even strength points this season and 28 PP points. He starts 55% of the time in the defensive zone and leads the team in blocked shots (tied with Guhle at 178) but you know he is bad defensively and is only a PP specialist and not worth more than a 3rd! ROFLMFAO, tell me you know nothing about the game of hockey, without telling me you know nothing about the game of hockey!
You should really stop while your reputation is somewhat salvageable!</div></div>
Are you bad at math? In what world does 52 games equate to 80 games?
I didn't say the 1st was used to dump Barrie. I would have used the word dump if I was calling him a dump.
Let me give you another example though, Erik Gustafsson was put up 60 points in 79 games in 18/19. The following year he was traded for a 3rd round picks.
He also doesn't have 32 EV points he has 25. I'll break it down for you exactly. 21 at 5v5, 29 on the PP, 2 on the PK, 1 at 3v3, 2 at 4v4, 5 with the goalie pulled, and 3 vs an EN.
Defensive zone starts is a **** argument when only 5 of your teams regulars have higher than 50% of starts in the O-zone. Blocked shots also doesn't make you good defensively. John Carlson has 184 blocked shots this year, Gudbranson has 170.

I have no problem if Habs want to keep him but the idea that Habs fans think anyone is going to pay them premium for him is hilarious. He has some of the worst 5v5 metrics in the league and his 5v5 production is horrible considering his total production this season.
To further explain this, Matheson ranks 9th with 60 total points, Morrissey is 8th with 64, and Dahlin is 10th with 58. In 5v5 Morrissey ranks 3rd with 40 points, Dahlin is in a 5 way tie for 18th with 29, and Matheson is in an 11 way tie for 49th with 21.

Gostisbehere went for a 3rd after putting up 31 points in 52 games on a historically bad Arizona team, and Barrie was literally traded with a 1st+ attached 1.5 years after leading all defensemen in scoring. Power play specialists that suck at 5v5 aren't worth nearly as much as you think.

Samsonov has been great since he came back from his reset, then he has 2 bad statistical games where the games don’t matter and people turn on him again. 🤦🏻♂️
He hasn’t been great, but it’s been 2 games where the team hasn’t been great in front of him because the games don’t mean anything. There’s been no effort defensively.
This is why guys don’t wanna sign there. Relax.</div></div>
To truly be a contender you need at to be elite in at least 2/3 of these categories and Serviceable in the 3rd:
Offense
Defense
Goaltending
If you have all 3 (like Tampa did a few years ago) you are almost guaranteed to win the cup.
Toronto has elite offense, but neither their goaltending or defense is elite.

Lundell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>How?
They get a top 4 defender that they need, they get a top prospect, a cheap reliable backup goalie that could develop into a good starter after Bobrovsky leaves, and 2 picks… for a goalie that’s being paid $4.5M to play into the AHL and a young centre who’s regressed more than he’s progressed.
Seems pretty good for Florida, especially since they likely gain cap space outta this deal too.</div></div>
Lundell has by far the most value in this trade. Followed by Knight and Meser who are probably relatively close in value right now. Then the 1st, then 2nd, then Matheson, then Primeau.
Knight is playing very well in the AHL according to all sources, and calling Lundell regressing because he hasn't scored as much as his rookie season is just dumb.
Matheson isn't worth much, especially since identical players in Barrie and Gostisbehere are both free this summer.

I highly doubt he's interested in leaving Dallas at this point.
I think they make some noise but no where near this much.
Promoting Geekie from WHL to 1st line NHL is quite a jump, have him play on the 3rd line with Hayton and Cooley at #1 and 2 (unless they get Celebrini ofc). I also highly doubt Lamoureux makes the jump right away. Give Soderstrom a shot, and bring back Valimaki and Kesselring too. Don't push Durzi to his off hand either.
If I were them I would be targeting a guy like Chabot or similar. Get a PP1 guy

Adding muscle without just signing a goon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>I understand they probably don’t want to move him. But they may need to add a few young, cheap contracts to fill out the roster once they are cap compliant. Buffalo has a few prospects that will never make this team due to the log jam that can still be contributing players somewhere else.</div></div>
Their roster is already mostly filled. Assuming Brisson makes their starting roster they currently have 10 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies under contract for next year. Dorofeyev and Korczak are both RFA's so that would put them at 21 players with cap space still to sign a UFA

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>Yes, but he’s also pretty much the only guy who does. Watching this team, you know very quickly that they need more. Clifton came in and added a lot, but there’s really no one in the forward group that intimidates anyone. The team is too small upfront, and they get pushed around way too easily. Even when they try, they have a hard time pushing back.</div></div>
There are plenty of options like that out there. I just doubt Vegas trades Kolesar
