marner at ld
Why waste your time putting this together,
Rielly was the Leafs best D in playoffs. Marner is too soft and small to play D in any other situation than on a PP.

Something called depth, you can move him around from 3rd to first line, just like they are doing now.
Knies may not fit on the 2nd line yet so he gets moved up.
O'Reilly needs someone to play with as well.

Lines come playoffs
I like these Lines upfront.
If there was a way to add on D would be ideal too, so if that is giving up Engvall, Kerfoot or Holl with prospect would be nice.
Then move Ashton Reese Back in.
Also switch Bunting and Jarnock

His value is not as high as you think.

Dont move Kerfoot or Holl
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>Right...so if you move him + picks/prospects for someone who can play higher in the lineup, great. But using him in trades for a different 3rd liner makes no sense. As does moving Holl for a different depth d-man.
If you're not definitively getting a better player back...you don't mix up the lineup for a sideways move...or even a minor improvement...there's always risk in bringing in a new player and integrating him 80% of the way into the season.
If you're going after a big fish like Meier or maybe even an Ekholm...and need to send cap out...yes...sure...it makes sense because those players would slot in above.
I feel like if we didn't have Kerfoot or Holl, most leaf fans on here would be sending a 3rd rounder and a prospect to try and add them as a deadline rentals.</div></div>
Yes I agree with what you say, there is no point to trade to just trade. As I said they need a top 6-7 forward and a top 4 D and if you have to include him for cap reason to get that then do it. But I do not agree with keeping him because he's needed at center. Holl I Like as a 6-7 D. He's a Great PK guy and don't think they should move him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Agree with you on your Kerfoot and Holl assessment. Really can't be moved unless there is a viable replacement. Getting a better RHD is way too expensive Kerfoot right now is also needed at centre.
Moving Sandin to the right side makes no sense
Leafs are fine with Reilly/Sandin and Giordano (Benn) on the left side. Does adding Gavrikov and replacing Sandin add THAT much to the Leafs playoff run.
Same with right side. Who gets replaced that makes the that much better? Brodie, Holl, Liljegren (Timmins)
To answer your question: "I'm not sure why everyone is so desperate to rock the locker room and trade two pieces of the leafs every day group." Seems like so many Leaf fans hate their own. They see the mistakes that their own players make because they watch them every game. But they don't see many games that their opponents play, so those players are mistake free.</div></div>
Kerfoot does not play Center ever really.
He's on the wing no matter what line he plays on.
He's a 3.5 Mill very average third liner. That's why he moved in deals so much. They already have tons of PK guys, Marner, Kampf, Aston Reese, Engvall, Jarnkrok, Holmberg.
The Leaf's need a top D and a Top forward if they want to make a run, and if that means mortgaging the future then yes that's what they have to do. 2 Years Matthews and Nylander could go and it's rebuild time anyways. Plus if they don't get past the first round this year Dubas and Keefe are gone too.

D - man
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>Man would you be disappointed once he played a few games in TO. The guy is a pylon. He's "the best defensive" defenceman on a very bad team. That doesn't mean he's good, it means he's just not as bad as the other very bad defenceman Chicago has. Murphy is one of the worst fits for the Leafs system league wide. He'd be not much better than Benn in our system. Way too slow to match the pace we play, no skill to move the puck well. He's just big and some GM's seem to think that's worth a lot of money still. He's Gudbranson who looks terrible if you are paying him more than 2 million at most. Even then I think he's overpaid.</div></div>
The system of small and mobile for all 6 D is not going to win you tough games. Which what playoffs games are like.
Again he is better than more than half of our D now.

Bab is a UFA, so Sandin is worth more especially at 1.4 mil for another year.
So that gives you still a first round pick, Kerfoot and a potenial 3rd 4th line prospect.

Make a Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I am not buying into the Toronto media hype.
Should they be off to a better start? Absolutely.
But, Tampa is off to a similar start, so are the Cats. So are Pittsburgh, Washington amd the Rangers. So is St. Louis. Edmonton I though would be off to a better start too.
I am not going to suggest the Leafs should have won a few games given the soft schedule, but 10 games in and the media is hitting panic buttons.
I am hitting a panic button over Murray and Kallgren. I think hitting that button is legit. Samsonov has been quite solid. Kallgren is 0-3 with a sub .900 save percentage. If he was capable of taking 2 out of the 3 games in San Jose,Arizona or Anaheim, we aren't having this discussion.
Instead.... the team is weak. The team lacks character.
No folks. The team lacks an effin' backup that can win a game or two.</div></div>
You poor Fan. The fact that you can not see glaring holes in this lineup is crazy.
Mikechev 21 Goals - who replaces that - Engvall ? not a chance
Lybushckin- who replaces his physicality
Kase, although hurt lots - who replaces him - Malgin ???
Then you had last season Matthews and Marner putting up career years - unlikely to repeat
Too much relying on guys like Holl or Sandin to play as a #4 D, when they are not, and to the top players to score 3 goals a game or else they lose.

I think they have enough of those already, Rielly, Sandin Lily, etc. Leafs need some sort of size back there. As what's going on now needs to change.
Mayfield may not be the answer, but he is a UFA, NYI are off to a bad start and they have a lot of money tied up in their D core.
I think therefore could get him at a decent price. He's only playing around 18 mins a night.

They are as tough to play against as almost anyone.
And there are lots of reasons why they didnt make it past the first round but most of those reasons were because they didnt score enough or their goalie imploded.
The defence hasnt been an issue since lou was gm</div></div>
They did not keep Tampa shut down, Stamkos was playing hurt that round too.
If they shut them down they would have won. Pretty simple is they do not have the make up to make a run. They rely too much on Marner and Matthews to score and if they don't then they are screwed.
They need better D that is harder to play against. In the top 4 they don't have one.

The leafs are a very hard team to play against, that's why it took tampa 7 games to beat them and they only did it on by one goal and needed the refs to call back a leafs goal to do it.
Lybushkin didnt help, Komisarek didnt help, Bogosian, Fraser, O'Byrn, Hainsey, Polak etc etc etc.
Toughness and size has never been an issue because if it was then why did all the toughness and size the leafs add never help? Why were the toughest and biggest teams always the worst?</div></div>
They have not got past the first round so how is that hard to play against? So what they went 7 games. That's in the first round too.
They would get killed after that anyways.

Wrong, size matters, and Cup winning teams prove that.
They are tiny on the backend and that will not take them anywhere. Don't have to fight but must be hard to play against.
Clifford, Simmonds, and Muzzin are players now that are not relevant. Muzzin is the only one that plays minutes, and he's now past his prime, and plays soft now.
