The problem is matthews
The problem is the Matthews Contract is way overpriced, and that's why people think that Marner is a 8 figure player, because they lot them in the same category, and because its Toronto....
Matthews - 11'634'000 / 73 points last season = $159000 per point (way overpaid) ($132'000 per goal if you say he plays a full season at the same scoring pace)
Tavares - 11'000'000 / 88 points last season = $125000 per point (overpaid? as toronto likes to do)
Mcdavid - 12'500'000 /116 points last season = $107000 per point
Ovechkin - 9'538'462 / 89 points last season = $107000 per point
Kane - 10'500'000 / 110 points last season = $95000 per point
Crosby - 8'700'000 / 100 points last season = $87'000 per point (older contract)
Draisaitl - 8'500'000 / 105 points last season = $81000 per point (bargin)
Kucherov - 9'500'000 / 128 points last season = $74218 per point (wayyy bargin)
Gaudreau - 6'750'000 / 99 points last season = $68'000 per point (older contract)
Is it fair to say $100'000 per point is on pace for what most of these players are worth at the moment?
Marner - 9'200'000? / 92 points last season = $100'000 per point?
Tkachuk - 7'700'000? / 77 points last season = $100'000 per point?
i didnt even include some serious bargin players in there that throw the current metric out the window ( Marchand, Mackinnon, Stamkos, Barkov)
Toronto is Out to lunch if they are thinking they can have 3 players making over 8 figures.

Flames Side of Frolik for Coleman from KubaH
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrandonDubinskyGOAT</b></div><div>Who would you say is better at their best, Tkachuk or Marner?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>Marner is more talented, who is more valuable to their team? I think Tkachuk, that's a lot tougher question though and you'll get varying answers on that. the initial question I think you'll be hard pressed to find too many guys saying Tkachuk</div></div>
I agree with SmugTkachuk, Marner is Dangerous offensively, but Tkachuk is developing an all around game. with a 57% corsi for and a 46% off zone starts, combined with 77 point last season, i'd sasy thats pretty deadly. Marner has a corsi for of 51% and a 54% offensive zone starts, with 92 Points last season. Both VERY talented players in their own right.

TKACHUK 5X8 CZARNIK TO AHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>He would be a great winger there. Frolik is being traded so he will stay in Calgary. Tkachuk will get more money and term.</div></div>
I really hope Calgary doesn't get rid of Frolik. His defensive upside is substantial as part of the 3M shutdown line (Tkachuk, Backlund, Frolik). All three have a corsi for above 55%, And with about 46% offensive zone starts, that's substantial. Also key for the balance of the team.
I really think Calgary's moves after the Stone buyout is shuffling the bottom 6 so that the dollars work out.

(EDM/CGY) - Lucic (12.5% retained) & conditional 2020 3rd for Neal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>This trade isn't nearly as bad for Calgary as everyone thinks/says it is. Everybody has to step back and look at the math.
Calgary and Edmonton are not New York or Los Angeles, or Toronto. Neal's contract was/is all salary, equally spread. Thus the Flames owed Neal $23 million over the next four years. In contrast, Lucic's contract was front-loaded and there was a $3 million signing bonus that Edmonton just paid, so Lucic is owed a total of $16 million by Calgary for the same period. Now subtract the retention ($3 million), and Calgary saves $10 million in real cash by this trade. Now $10 million to us sitting in the comfort of our armchairs at home may not seem important, but to the Calgary GM it means that he can offer a free agent next summer a $2.5 million signing bonus in every year on a four-year contract -- money he didn't have before, but which may mean the difference between being able to sign Matt Duchene or Artemi Panarin and being able to sign Ryan Dzingel. So although Edmonton may be the winner on the ice, Calgary is the winner at the bank.</div></div>
Solid thoughts OldNYIfan. Edmonton fans are saying they got rid of the worst contract in the NHL. if you believe that Neal and Lucic are apples to apples the same caliber of player(which i do). Technically speaking, Edmonton is paying $500'000 more for "the worst contract in the NHL". They came away from that deal paying even more!? they added to that contract! And they lost a 3rd round pick too (because those conditions are never gonna be met.)!? Yeah, Calgary Wins.
