<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A2023tdlGuesses</b></div><div>Screw it:

He is the most sheltered 24 year old top 6 ever. He is going to destroy the cap balance of the team with his deal.

He fits a rush style team, and it may as well be 5 on 4 if it’s a dump and chase scenario, which it is in St. Louis more than not.

He rarely carries the play.

He doesn’t particularly drive shots, Robert Thomas does.

He has as many fingers as body checks this year. 10. 1 every 5 games.

He doesn’t block shots at all.

He’s extremely soft with the puck. If he cannot dangle or deke his way from a defender he will lose it nearly every time. Any body contact he loses the puck.

Yes, he is amazing at crossing the blue line with the puck, and has an instinctual shot. A shot is easy to replace with Timo Meier, or another skater later down the road.

With his speed he should be on a team that can use it. The Blues system does not allow him to excel in his strengths.

He is unequivocally not worth 65 million dollars over 8 years. He isn’t worth 48 million over 8 years.

This will only magnify after his aav hits the cap, and the pieces around him become lesser.

He is a liability who is extremely talented offensively in a manner that does not fit the core play style of the team, and is a net negative despite his goals and assists.</div></div>

I may just be speculating here but maybe, just maybe, Doug Armstrong plans to build around a new core of players? I kinda feel like that's part of a rebuild/retool, Identifying your core pieces and building around them.
Thomas only has 11 hits anyways. Jack Hughes, Patrick Kane, Johnny Gaudreau have 11 hits or less.

Do I think he's overpaid, a little bit. I would have preferred a number that starts with 7 but that isn't going to be the detriment of this team.
A gross overpayment to get a guy who has a qualifying offer of $10M per year could be the downfall of this team, considering locker room morale. I mean this is just a lateral or backwards move.

You are entitled to your opinion but your opinion is just wrong and this trade is trash. sorry not sorry.

Sujet: Barbashev
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hobo</b></div><div>That is cute, I mean I ask my boss for a million dollars, doesn't mean I am getting it. Blues aren't getting Lysell from the Bruins for bottom 6 rental. I mean Taylor Hall was Bjork and a 2nd rounder. So at best you are looking at a 2nd or 3rd rounder or a 3rd with a condition of resigning and a prospect (not the best prospect a team has).</div></div>

I definitely get your point. I'm not saying it's an even trade. The Hall trade is completely different (Full no trade clause).
There are lots of reasons to like Barbashev:
He is more of a middle 6 winger. 3rd line suits him best but he can play 1st through 4th and be effective.
Can play center or wing.
Very good penalty killer. Can even play powerplay
Loves to hit.
Cheap contract and salary can be retained.
Prior relationship with Jim Montgomery.
Stanley Cup Champion

I'm not saying that he's an elite player. But he is a highly sought after effective forward that would be perfect for a Cup Run.
His asking price is a first or 2nd and prospect.
*Checks notes* Lysell was the 21st player selected in 2021. That's mid/late first round value.
If Boston is serious about acquiring him. They might have to decide between their 1st round pick this year (in a super stacked draft) or giving up Lysell.

Here's the kicker... Lysell does not help you this year. Boston is going all in this year. And they might have to overpay for some good depth to get that Stanley Cup.

So don't get me wrong, I know that Lysell is a steep price but just wait until the deadline comes.
