Leafs Changes Attempt 2
That is an absolute steal for Seattle imo. Liljegren still has a high ceiling and is already pretty reliable at only 23, He's not a guy to trade if you're retooling. I'd probably put Borgen in that trade and try and get a 1st instead of the 2nd and 3rd

You think a team can contend with Kadri as their 1st line center?
The Flames were still one of the best 5v5 teams in the league this year, they just got let down by suboptimal goaltending and bad luck (ie leading the league in posts hit, etc)

Marner would help the offense sure, but not at the cost of Lindholm. Also he really wouldn't be a good fit with Huberdeau. Neither of them likes shooting the puck

Finishing every teams offseason 12-32
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jberney1</b></div><div>Agreed... 3 million at the most for Yammer... Puljujarvi maybe gets 2... If he isn't traded before that.... If your going to move Barrie to Seattle.. I'd at least try and get Soucey in return...</div></div>
It's easy to fall victim to recency bias, especially given how Puljujarvi's last season unfolded. However, I expect an arbitrator would award Puljujarvi more than $2M. Look no further than Warren Foegele's contract and contribution. Compare that to what Puljujarvi did and it becomes difficult to argue JP shouldn't get something around $3M. I think a ruling around $2.5M - $2.75M would be a win for the Oilers.

After Kieth retires
It’s just crazy how much sense Chychrun makes. Yes I know a top 4 dmen signed to a great deal is on every teams list, but especially for the oilers.
Not only is Burse the only current NHL level LHD on our roster right now, but it’s also clear he isn’t a bonafide #1.
Chychrun would ease the pressure off nurse. You could have one of them on for 50mins per game.
Perhaps the biggest reason the oilers should act on him is he doesn’t have trade protection. How many times has a good player wanted out of their current situation but blocked any move to the oilers with their NMC/NTC.
I personally believe that is a very fair offer. They get a good haul of picks, a reclamation project with high potential and an offensive dman.
I would almost prefer moving Foegele and keeping Barrie, but not that big of a deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mk458</b></div><div>I agree that tampa laughs, but in what world is dermott as good as andersson???</div></div>
In normal world. Pointwise they are similar, Dermott is better in that. They are both very good and talented offensively and great skaters. Both are top-4 Dmen at age of 22. Dermott is much better in transition but lacks in D zone a bit. Andersson is better in D zone but lacks in transition. Both have amazing gap control and play a bit physical game. If you really asking that question you either underrate Dermott a lot or overrate Andersson a lot. They are both similarly good young Dmen!

Agreed. He has to earn those top line minutes. As for Ferland, he's younger than Simmonds and he got 5 million for the one year. In that respect maybe a decent deal.

Montreal has too many forwards. Someone had to go and why not someone who has value but also with a history of injury issues. It's not like they won with Shaw. Habs are in a great place, knew bad contract (Alzner) and ton of depth, a ton of prospects, top 5 goalie in the world...Hab fans need to start thinking before reacting

Brayden Point
Point doesn't sign in the first place.
In the words of Pierre LeBrun: <em>I mentioned this during our free agent frenzy marathon telecast on TSN that according to my sources, the Canadiens actually began the offer sheet discussion with agent Gerry Johannson on RFA star centre Brayden Point (Johannson represents both Point and Aho). But as the week went along, it began to make more sense for Montreal to try to exploit budget-conscious Carolina.
If I had to guess, I’d say Point would have not signed an offer sheet anyway and I don’t know that the idea ever even got to his doorstep. </em>

because he was in his prime and his value was at an all time high. moving his almost 4mill contract would have been difficult after next season. plus its an extremely deep draft next year, and he got a good pick outta that.

Would anyone do this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jberney1</b></div><div>just throwing ideas out there... Boston is Toronto's roadblock of late to success.. looking at ways to overcome that. I agree keeping Marner is just fine and Toronto doesn't miss a beat and yes it will be a bit more of a cap hit.. just seen a Stamkos / Tavares / Matthews vs. Boston's big three option there..</div></div>
I think Toronto has what it takes now. The team will be another year older and all the young guys will be better (stronger physically and mentally) the addition of Barrie will be huge and Kerfoot will be a good enough replacement for Kadri especially if he actually plays more than 2 playoff games.
I think a huge factor is the new coaching staff with Babs. Our special teams should be much better this year, which played a huge role in this years playoffs for us. Hakstol is a very strong defensive coach, although he can rely on depth guys a little too much he will run good PK and even strength systems. Mcpharland has had one of the best PP's in the league for a number of years, and with the leafs fire power it should be lethal.
Another big factor is going to be Andersen's load management. He cant play 60+ games again. Look at Rask this year. I know he was injured, but even when he came back he basically split starts with Halak which let him be fresh for the playoffs (obviously look at Kawhai too). Sparks isnt good enough for that, hopefully Hutch can play 30+ games or maybe we have to make a mid-season trade for a backup. Bottom line is Andersen should play around 50

Sure he probably could, but why trade a younger player who is better as a winger. Even if it is a higher cap hit (probably not by much)

It looks like Mr Ferris may have over reached. I find it awfully telling how he was so vocal right up until he could talk to other teams and then went silent. My guess is the big money offer sheets never came. Aho getting what he got points to GM's being far tighter than many thought. So if Marner isn't getting big money from other teams, and wants to play next year, Ferris is going to have to bend on his ask.

The trade logically brings down as Kerfoot (he's a centre) for Kadri. That's even for on ice and term. Then it's one year of Barrie at 2.75m for Rosen and a a third. Certainly filled a need a Leaf need,

I don't see it that way.
Also view of Zaitsev here on capfriendly is so scewed.
He's a good D and can produce points if put it in right situation and he's shown that he can be a shutdown D as well.
I view the term on his contract as a good cost controlled contract. With all these things in mind, I don't view this as a cap dump in any scenarios.
