Staios save our team
I think the Isles would pass on that, purely because the financial aspect is awful for them. This deal upgrades LD2 for them, sure, but between the difference in Chabot & Romanov's salaries plus the retention on JGP, it's adding $7.5M to their cap next year while opening a hole at 3C. Quick look at the numbers puts them at about $4.375M under the cap with 8 F / 6 D / 2 G under contract. Simon Holmstrom needs an extension, so even if you clock him at $1M AAV, that basically means you can sign 4 more league minimum players and run a 21-man roster.
All that, and they're giving up picks too? No thanks.

Not until the escrow is paid up, And that wont be for at least another 2 years. Perhaps by 2025 it could go up substantially.

Not under the current CBA and it goes through the 2025-26 season. Then more than likely we will see another work stoppage because the 2 sides can't agree on any thing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HotsamBatcho</b></div><div>3 mil for Formenton on only a two year deal is too much maybe a 4 year deal he could get 3 mil, something around 2.1-2.4 is more realistic. Brannstrom hasn't showed enough to earn a 2.5 mil contract yet I would go under 1.5 on a 2 year deal for him. That Norris contract could be a big mistake, honestly with the Giroux signing I think everything is set up perfectly for Norris to sign a three year bridge deal, Stutzle will be eating in to his ice time soon and he wont be the only shooting option on the only viable PP unit anymore.</div></div>
This is forecasting 2 years out, so it would be a 4 year deal for Formenton (2+2=4).
As noted in Explanation... lots of assumptions. Some deals will be high, some low, that average out on the bottom line.

I’ll tell u right now Brannstrom and Formenton won’t be at those AAV . Both those guys will be gone. Greig will play 3LW and given a raise when Giroux expires . It lines up

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HotsamBatcho</b></div><div>Yesss I was thinking a Brannstrom-Sanderson pairing would be great too since they can both play right/left but for some reason I don't think DJ likes playing defenceman on their off side I rarely saw Brannstrom playing the right this year.
Keeping the pick is definitely a good option but this team needs to start getting some playoff reps and whoever they draft at 7 probably wont be making an impact for another two years, can't be rebuilding forever. For cap space if the team is willing to spend to the cap ceiling I don't think it should be a problem to resign Stutzle, Pinto, and Sanderson with Fialas contract this team has some very manageable contracts.</div></div>
Garland - 4 more years at 4.9
Konecny - 3 more years at 5.5
Both would be great on the wing with Stuzle or the Norris - Brady line moving Batherson with Stuzle.
I would much rather give up assets like JDB, Thompson, Lodin, Järventie, and 2023 1st to get one of them instead.

I think if he signs a QO he can go right to UFA status. It probably takes 2 1sts, a good young player and two prospects to get him. That being said it may very well be worth it if you can keep ur top 3 centers (Norris, Stutzle and Pinto) intact.

I don’t disagree, but I think they probably should’ve let Brannstrom and JBD play since this season was a wash anyway.

I saw Ottawa when most of their d core was out and I liked what I saw from JBD tbh. I would’ve given him consistent time last year in hopes that he could help Sanderson ease into a top four role.

I like the Montour move he could be a good pairing with Sanderson, although I hope eventually this year we get to see a Sanderson - Brannstrom pairing because I think they would play off each other great.
I am not a huge fan of moving for Fiala, especially with the 7th this year, when there will be a great winger available at that spot. I just don't think even at 6 years the contract is going to age well and will cause issues when you also need the cap space to sign Stuzle and Sanderson long term, with the Norris contract.
Puljujärvi I would take a gamble on that he could work out as a good top 6 winger to play with Stuzle long term, I don't know if I would go 4 years, however, that would be a very tradable contract if needed.

Offseason After Officially Losing First Rounder
Ottawa doesn't need a Centre. I think Ottawa would be interested in DeBrincat. Ottawa's 7th overall would definitely be included. If a prospect and a player was included, would that be interesting from a Chicago perspective?

Future team with Kemell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HotsamBatcho</b></div><div>Holden has really taken a step back in the second half of the season, unless Brannstrom is traded I want him on the third pair over Holden.</div></div>
It's interesting that his supposed drop in play lines up so well with Chabot's injury, leading to Holden playing almost exclusively with Nikita Zaitsev.
I look at his season, I see a guy who looked great playing with Zub, looked good playing with Thomson and Bernard-Docker and even made Josh Brown look serviceable. The fact that he really struggled while playing with one of the literal worst Dmen in the league does not concern me. They just need to move on from Z.
As far as Brannstrom is concerned, if Ottawa wants to dump MDZ and hang on for one more year, I'd be fine with that. Only thing is I really don't see anywhere he really fits. Assuming no injuries, the top 4 seems set in stone (2,23,72,85) which leaves 5, 24, 26, and 60 fighting over the bottom pair. In my opinion the sens are a much stronger defensive team with Holden vs Brannstrom (though Brannstrom is better than he's credited for defensively) and in my opinion there's just no way Ottawa goes into next season with Brannstrom as the vet bringing Jacob or Lassi into the league. Only way I see him in the lineup is if he goes buck wild with Chabot in camp and forces a top 4 RD job over Hamonic, or if neither Bernard-Docker or Thomson are ready out of camp. I love the little dude, and think he's gonna have a successful NHL career, but it really feels like the end of the line here unfortunately.

- I absolutely hate to give up Formenton but this gives the Sens the ingredients to build a very competitive top-6
I'd personally go like this. I know, I am very bullish on Greig. that 3rd line could be insane too. Or Greig with Pinto and Brown could be very nice too, but experience would be low
Greig - Stutzle - Batherson
Tkachuk - Norris - Fiala
Joseph - Pinto - Brown
- I hope they don't make that kind of move for getting rid of Zaitsev. Just buy him out instead or even bury him in the NHL. Picks are very valuable too ($)
- Del Zotto will have only 1 year left at 2.0, some team will give up a pick for him. He has 37 pts in 43 AHL/NHL games this season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>My heart says yes but I think it'll be more because one of the teams you'd expect to be contenders next year falls apart (thinking 1/2 of the Boston/Washington/Pittsburgh/NYI(please no) falling out of contention).
I do think they make a push even if you keep Formenton over Fiala - the one area I'd really want to upgrade is goalie. Find a good 1B for Forsberg, whether it's a rejuvenated Matt Murray or an outside acquisition, and then I think you've really got a stew going.</div></div>
Rejuvenated in the sense that he is being given a new body? He is very injury prone at this point and concussion/head injuries are concerning, to the point where I'm actually wondering if he gets cleared to play contact hockey again

More or less what I meant. I think if (the biggest IF you can think of) he can get healthy again, he's shown he is back. I just worry he's basically gonna be LTIR the rest of the deal, which means Ottawa needs to find a 1B for Forsberg. It's a bummer because he seemed to be putting it back together this year before getting hurt again.

I get it - I would definitely keep Grieg over Formenton. I also missed the fact that Formenton is RFA this year and probably expects a raise, so I'd be leaning a little more towards making that deal.
Like you said in the description, goaltending is the big if. I know people kind of dumped on the Hamonic trade but I think he's a decent player to have in the room - maybe he transitions to being a 6th/7th D when JBD comes up, but he's been around a long time and plays a strong defensive game, and I would think he could help mentor a lot of this younger D corps that Ottawa is building up. The forward depth is there with this lineup, and there's room to add on if you need to. If Matt Murray can come back strong next year, or they find a decent 1B to go with Forsberg, it's gonna be a fun season for the sickos.

I don’t think you’ll have to give up Greig. I think another team likely beats an offer of Jarventie + ‘23 1st, but I just don’t see anyone giving up a Greig level prospect.
Isles aren’t giving up Raty, Kings aren’t giving up Faber, Ducks aren’t giving up Perrault or Pastujov. Sens won’t give up Greig.
I think MN has to look like one tier below that in terms of value and then a 1st. And they’ll just need to decide internally what package they like most.

As an outsider, it seems like you need one more year. 2/3 of your 3rd line have combined < 20 NHL games played. Sanderson and Hamonic as 2nd pair has some uncertainty.
But that’s a very bright future and there are def some eastern teams on the back 9 due to age.
