Avs Fans How Reliable Is Gabe At Center
He takes faceoffs on left side (since MacK is right shot) and then switching back to wing position in the play. Faceoffs are the only reason he is listed as C anywhere (here, fantasy hockey, etc.). He is not a center.

Karlsson and Ehlers
I think the Karlsson deal could be worked out into something (maybe exchanging Jost for Kerfoot and adding another pick while VGK adds in Clarkson as was mentioned as possibility?).
Can see all perspectives on the Ehlers/Barrie trade, but the most important point (I believe) would be that this trade never would happen in the first place as WPG wouldn't want to see Ehlers several times per year and perhaps in the playoffs and ditto for the Avs with Barrie. If Ehlers is on the block as rumored, Chevy will most likely do as he did with Trouba and look Eastern Conference or at least Pacific division, not within Central unless he became desperate (which he won't have to be like the Trouba situation, one would think).

Deal with Toronto
flip Namestnikov and Strome for the COL and MIN trades and that might be more realistic. Have heard COL was connected to Namestnikov as a possibility previously, but don't think they would have any interest in Strome at all

McDavid EDM Side
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dylan1995</b></div><div>No thank you Barrie likely walks rantanen is good but not enough 16th overall pick isnt much either when trading the best player in the game plus we are still close to cap..I'd rather just keep McDavid move a bit of cap out an wait a year Edmonton isnt as bad as we all think with proper development an talent coming up I'd rather just wait a year then do a trade like this which hurts us long term</div></div>
Should have put in the details that Barrie would be extended already (like Rantanen) for 8 yrs at 7.5-8.....obviously that would require more players to get moved out. On my Avs side of the trade, it was said that changing the 16th pick to 4th and adding in Lucic would be more realistic and I agree on that end (would help with the additional cap hit for Barrie).
They (in theory) wouldn't need to make a trade for Reimer but figured they would add a vet goalie and get a better pick for doing so, but they could sign another vet for less or bring up a ELC goalie if they really were confident in Koskinen.
EDM has some problem contracts even if they got rid of the Lucic hit, but depending on how patient Holland is/the club is with him, in a couple years when some of those deals are gone (Russell and Sekera in particular) they might be able to build something

McDavid Avs Side
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bunzy1034</b></div><div>Obviously this is never going to happen but if they did they should split up mack and mcjesus. Could you imagine them as a 1,2 center combo? Absolutely disgusting.</div></div>

Could definitely make that adjustment - 4th Overall and add in Lucic, which would mean that the Hayes signing would not really be necessary and then having them as 1C and 2C....with enough cap space still to go after a top 6 W through trade or UFA

Using Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>I don't think any of your reasoning is wrong right here. I agree with nearly everything you say - but free agency is a wild animal. Someone is going to regret spending a lot on Ferland. And Karlsson will be at least $6.5 I think, otherwise I think Vegas would try to keep him. And for Kapanen, I agree he's really worth around $2.6-3.5 right now, but could see him making higher demands. Basically I just think it will cost an extra $2-4 to sign those 3 players.</div></div>
Yes, this offseason could end up being very crazy depending on how the dominoes fall. I like Ferland but hope the Avs aren't the team that overpays him. League-wide there are a few big time RFAs, a few big time UFAs, a draft with first rd deep with F......PHI makes first move to try to lock up Hayes, interested to see how every unfolds

I agree, but if they are able to get a secondary scoring asset that can help now (like a Kapanen/Johnsson/Kadri/etc) then should be an ave to at least explore (especially if they don't have to give up any top 9 roster players to do so).

Using Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>Your kapanen, ferland, and karlsson signing are a bit unrealistic. Each player will likely make more money. If kapanen is at $3 then I think Toronto keeps him - Ferland will easily land north of $4, maybe $5 (free agency is wild) - and Karlsson is not signing for less than his current contract.</div></div>
Kapanen could end up in the $3-4 range coming off ELC, but he had 40 pts in one full NHL season (spending plenty of time with Matthews or Kadri), so a shorter term deal at $3 makes sense (to me anyway). If Kapanen was $3 or more and Johnsson could/should ask for around the same, then how is Marner fitting in with what he is looking for? Getting rid of Marleau and one of those two (or a Kadri/Brown) is only way to create space for Marner and Kapanen/Johnsson....no way they can keep everyone.
Ferland might be a bit low, but his current cap hit is $1.75 and he put up back to back 40 pt seasons playing on lines with Gaudreau and/or Monahan and then with Aho and/or Teravainen a lot of the time. I think he'd say yes to doubling his salary to play on another contending team (could bump to $4 if need be) - Matt Beleskey should be a cautionary tale of over paying a power forward that put up pts because of his linemates...but I think Ferland brings more than Beleskey before BOS signed him and then bought him out.
You're probably right on Karlsson, but his current hit is $5.25 so slight bump up, but basically the same hit and locked in long term (5 yr). Bumping it up to $6 would be fine as that is probably the range ($6-6.5) Avs would have been/are looking at offering Hayes (assuming he doesn't sign in PHI)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>So TBL gets to move up 11 spots in the draft and drop $6M in Callahan and all they have to give up is JT Miller? TBL should do this is a heartbeat! I think COL can ask for more. Like drop the TBL 2nd going to COL and change the COL 1st to a 2nd heading to TBL.</div></div>
Guess I missed the mark on the Miller valuation....seemed like a pretty good Hayes comparable (at least point-wise going back to 2015-2016: expect 40-55 pts). I definitely agree on the draft pick part taking a longer look at it now.

Trade with TB
Yeah, not a splashy move, but I think could be realistic if they don't sign Hayes as 2C. I think the #4 pick is untouchable unless they are blown away with an offer, but #16 could be in play for some things. While it would be great to get a Panarin or a Skinner on a long term deal, I just don't see it happening with what offers from other teams will be. They'll both want more than 4 years and after that you have to figure in raises for not only MacK but Landy, Girard, Makar, and Barrie (assuming he is still on team in a few years) as well.

Trading for 3 Overall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heiskanen4Vezina</b></div><div>One of Barrie, Girard, or Makar will be gone at the expansion draft. Makar playing in the postseason means that all 3 of them are eligible for the expansion draft, and Colorado HAS to protect Johnson, because of his NMC.</div></div>
Assuming all 3 are still on the roster at that point and at worst case Johnson doesn't waive NMC for the draft, Sakic would never allow one of those 3 to be taken (Zadorov, if still in the picture, would be the odd man out and eligible to be picked on the back end). Using the protection on 4 D would then only allow for 4 F to be protected (MacK, Mikko, Landy, and most likely Compher/Kerfoot - unless they lock up a bigger FA this year to a 5-6 yr deal (Hayes, Skinner, etc.).
Worst case would be Sakic giving up a draft pick/prospect to keep Seattle from taking a certain player left exposed.
In terms of this trade, I think the Avs would be more than happy having another top forward prospect at 4 and then possibly looking at D or another F again at 16. No need to make a move like that unless the contract situations with Barrie or Zadorov become more clear prior to this year's draft.

Oh, didn't realize that was already guaranteed....since DAL just overpaid their 3rd best D.
Assuming Zucc wants a moderate raise (and he should - maybe around $4.5 - 5 per?), Spezza walks, they would have to let 3 UFA D men also walk, sign their 4 or so RFA all to their current cap hits (unlikely, most if not all will get raises), Johns is back off IR and counts another $2.5 or so, Hanzal may/may not come off LTIR - if he does that's another $4.7 added........it is not guaranteed they will be able to offer what he may be looking for (even with no state tax)

DAL is going to give NY their 1st rd pick in 2020 just to get their original 3rd rd 2020 pick back? That's awful nice of them.

Yeah, general consensus is they'll pursue Panarin but may not get an audience (much like Tavares), but they will try for sure. I wasn't sure on Bowers' situation, but maybe they bring back Bourque on a minimum contract or Brassard for like $1 million on a 1/2 yr deal. Just need someone on cheap deal for either 3rd/4th line W, whether they bring back one of those vets or finally give Greer a real shot
