Offseason Overhaul

Their Powerplay is one of the worst in the league. If we know anything about Ghost it's that he's got a bomb of a shot and is a good player on the top of a PP. That was my thinking on that one. If they could have even a 20% PP instead of 15% they could be that much better, does a 3rd/4th line center move the needle, or a legitimate offensive D man, he has looked very good lately. He needs a change of scenery next year and he's showing he can still play

Offseason Overhaul
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flyersarephilly</b></div><div>With York being the first pick of the Fletcher era I don't see him being moved before he plays a game in Philly</div></div>
With Fletcher knowing his seat could be getting hot with another underwhelming year if he doesn't make changes in the offseason and a D corps that showed an inability to play at an NHL level this season, yea I could see it. I hear what you're saying but picks and prospects are just that, can't keep waiting for 3-4 seasons for a guy to turn into a player. They need help now, and if you're going to acquire that help that's going to be an ask. You want a Top-4 dman you're going to part with a top prospect

We Need Help on Defense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Niskanen retiring is a majot issue. Love the youth on the blueline, but they need a minute munching vet to set a tone- and Braun isn't it.
Guftasson signing was nothing short of a head scratcher. Luckily, it's short term.
Josh Manson would look good, but it also log jams development.
Logjams development I disagree with. You've got Hagg and Braun and Ghost on the D Corps yet. If Cam York or Zamula are going to be NHLers in 1-2 years are they going to play over ANY of Provy, Sanheim, Myers, and whatever piece they would add? Not likely. They're going to have a year or two to learn and become established before they start pushing their way up the depth chart. I 'm adding talent now to make this team a true contender while they're still getting the last good years of production from the aging core (G, Jake, JVR, Hayes, Coots), plus the emergence of the young core (TK, Provy, Myers, Sanheim, Lindblom, Patrick). They have a good mix, they just need another piece on defense honestly, I think that would solve so many issues and I'm not worrying about if this team being a true Top-5 NHL team by adding another good defenseman is going to cost future assets or block Cam York from getting 16 minutes a night on the 3rd pair instead of a top-4 role in 2024. Their time is now if they want to see this era have one last shot at getting the job done. Also not giving any thought to expansion...if you've gotta protect 4 D, then do it and protect G, Coots, TK and Lindblom. Trade a 1st rounder if you wanna protect Patrick and let Seattle take NAK and that's a win in my book...or they take Jake or JVR in which case, fine too. I'm not bagging on either guy, I just don't see them as essential pieces of this team in 2-3 years so oh well if we lose them and their huge cap hits this summer
Two words: Alex Goligoski. Expiring term. Check. Vet? Check. Plays top 4 minutes with high effectiveness? Check. Cost effective in terms of assets? Check again.</div></div>

Yea like, it's not like I'm saying you need to have an elite defensive stick, be physical, block shots, fight, hit...like just don't be utterly incompetent with the puck in your own end. I knew he was a PP specialist, but I didn't realize he had no bearing for what is and what's not a terrible turnover in his own end lol

Is Risto not terrible? He sure looked like a guy I wouldn't mind on my team in the two games against the Flyers, he was an absolute **** to play against. I know he is very divisive and gets a lot of crap, but he sure looked like a physical defensive presence that the Flyers sure could use right now because they are 10-ply soft on D right now

I want no part of EK, even if it means moving JVR's contract. Why would the Flyers give up 2 contracts with 3 years left to ride out if they can't move AND a 1st round pick for a $12mil player with 7 YEARS left? Put's themselves in a worse position and they pay a 1st round pick to do so? Nope

Exactly, 3rd pair guy, no powerplay time...you're just assuming he's going to get a bigger role and flourish, all I'm saying is Ghost has proven he CAN play that role in the NHL. They're both big question marks. One guy who is unproven, one who is but his game has slipped and needs to get it back

Who is playing LD in boston if Chara doesn't come back? Grzelcyk and Moore? Doesn't seem like they'd be opposed to adding more depth at that position, especially a guy who with a change of scenery could be just what they need to replace Krug if he rebounds his game even a little bit. He's got a better chance at 40-50 points than Grzelcyk

Finishing touches Changes of Scenery
This isn't a bad idea for the Flyers. Looking for a right-hand shot to replace Niskanen...ideally one that can play PK which I don't think Risto is known for his defensive prowess, but the idea is good. Two guys who could use a different situation to maybe re-ignite their game. The $$ doesn't work for Philly unless they find a way to flip out a JVR, or Myers signs for CHEAP, which I don't see happening

Can Russel play 20 minutes a night in the top 4 and not be actively bad? I haven't seen a lot of Oilers games on the east coast so just asking. If so, take a 5th rounder for him. Flyers are still looking for a veteran D man to replace Niskanen in my mind, so the fit is right, but idk if the talent is there

I can't tell if your a bruins fan or if you just devalue their talent that much...Halak has been an unreal backup for that team. I would do Ghost for Kase 1 for 1, let alone add another young forward and a 2nd rounder...Nate Schmidt just got Vegas a 3rd round pick so that value is way off. Never been a huge DeBrusk fan, but I'd still value him higher than a guy like Killorn

Hard pass on Provorov. I hear rumors that that's where the Jets started with their ask, and that's just not happening. Sanheim+ and Philly is thinking about it, but we're not trading our #1 D-man with 5 years of term on a solid deal for a 1-year winger that's going to want a raise this offseason

Now that Stastny is back I agree, they could see how it goes with Laine this season and if he can have chemistry with a different C, but all the reports and talk around this situation just make it seem like the relationship with the player and the team are at least a little sour. It could be best for both parties to move on

Yes, I said that in my description. Should I propose Ghost, Patrick and a 1st like every other Laine proposal and get roasted for that not being what Winnipeg would want, can't just send all your depreciated assets and get a 40-goal scorer? If you wan't to get a 40 goal scorer you are going to lose a good player and more...that's a fact

I wouldn't be opposed to the Ghost for Risto deal, but that would assume the Flyers also are able to move JVR without bringing a lot of salary back. It's a good "hockey trade" change of scenery for those guys, but again, more would need to be done to accomodate Risto's additional salary based on cap space and remaining RFA's/UFA's to sign for Philly

Giroux has a NMC and I'm assuming Tavares does as well, I don't see either waiving them to move, why would JT want to leave when he chose TOR to play for? Either way I wouldn't see they Flyers wanting his 11mil contract anyways to put him at 2C, Couturier is a Selke winning 1C and their best player, and we have Hayes at 7mil at 2C, definitely wouldn't make sense to bump him down and have a 3C at 7mil.

I agree with most, Strome and Obrien are not enticing prospects. OB is a former 1st rounder sure, but hes dealt with injuries and actually has gone backwards in development since his draft, there's no reason to see him as 1st round upside anymore, his value has only gone down. You'd need to include a legit prospect like a Frost or a York/Zamula to make this even a consideration for MIN

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mintyfresh</b></div><div>I don't believe this is sufficient enough deal for Arizona. Mainly because they want to recoup picks. They won't be interested in two overpaid players. Voracek is a good player, but at his age, and the fact they already have an overpriced player in Kessel, they won't be interested. Ghost wouldn't be a bad risk or anything, but I just don't see them doing it. For cap reasons we'd have to include JVR or Voracek and add picks/prospects to the deal. Obviously if its JVR, we give up better picks/prospects.
As for does it work? I agree that it would be way to much invest in the Left Side. IF we made this deal, we'd have to send Sanheim as part of a deal for a Goal Scorer so we don't have to resign him next year. Using Sanheim, Raffl + a good prospect as a framework for Ehlers is a scenario I wouldn't mind.</div></div>
Sanheim has been on the right side before, lets not forget that. Could also have Top-4 next year or the year after of Provy-Myers and OEL-Sanheim. Use Hagg-Niskanen as the "shut down" 3rd pair that gets caught in the zone and can't move the puck out and hemorrhages scoring chances against.

Don't know much about Sikura, if he's not at least a B level prospect I'd say no deal. Laughton may not be the team's best player, he might not even be a Top-6 fwd, but he's a very valuable depth piece that plays PK and works his butt off for a pretty fair contract, it would be hard for me to trade a guy like that if I'm Chuck Fletcher
