Roster Lines and Pairings
Agree with Gally on 1st line. It was only 1 game but they had good line chemistry last night. More stable line and better along the boards than with Caufield
Problem i see is your 3rd line would be too weak along the boards so would be easy to defend against. Also armia on your 4th line will not be able to use his offensive talent.
Although not ideal, maybe it's time to try Drouin as 3rd centerman.
Toffoli -Suzuki - Gally
Caufield - Dvorak - Anderson
Hoffman - Drouin - Armia
Lehk - Evans - Byron/Perrault

Bringing Dvorak and Domi back together round 3
Your post, i assume, is in an attempt to make a good playoff run. Given that, here's my take :
Hockey wise, this is great as you now have a 3rd line with talent up to the roof . Domi stick handling and speed is just a thing of beauty so wouldn't mind watching him for another year but...
Problem is you loose a lot of leadership. Byron imo are the two less selfish players the HABS have, and Domi did not show that kind of team devotion when he was there.
Might seem absurd, but would rather trade Hoffman if I'm to get Domi, If Domi 's inclined to sign3-4 years at a price similar to Hoffman, then, that's even better.

Why not
That SJS move makes a lot of sense to me, but i guess would only happen at Trade deadline, if the sharks are out of the playoffs. Also I would only pay so much if Hertl agrees to extend.
As for Gallagher, i'll wait another year but i think he is on a very bad contract . Maybe a contending team with cap room (which is unlikely) would trade for him, but not sure the Kings are there yet. How good will he be in 3-4 years when the Kings will become more serious contender. HIs lack of Stamina is the thing that worries me most. Can't keep up on longer shifts.

2022-23 Part 2
This is a good roster. The numbers make sense. To seriously contend i think we will still need one more addition, a rental player like Hertl at tradedeadline,
I'm not a fan of rentals, but for cap reasons, there was no way we could add a player like eichel and still keep a decent roster depht.
We've just seen how Lekhonen, Byron, Armia, etc were a big part of last playoff success. Dvorak allows us to keep some of that depht

Miller for Toffoli
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SadlyAnOilFan</b></div><div>How is it not Miller for Toffoli AND? I’m also talking a pretty significant and, because It’s highly unlikely Toffoli repeats the season he just had, especially when he had a lot of his success playing Vancouver.
I don’t see a reason for Vancouver to even contemplate a Miller trade if Toffoli is the main piece coming back.</div></div>
Reason : Toffoli ranked 7 in goals last year. Didn't know him much before he joined the HABS. Was really impressed. It's not just the goals, he just plat the right way, defensively too.
I could add a B-prospect or a pick, but i don't think Miller is in a different sphere. Also, Toffoli has 3 years remaining in contract, only 2 for Miller.

Eichel Realistic Read Description
This trade makes sense valuewise imo. Suzuki and Anderson are probably the exact type of player Buffalo is looking for (competitive, team oriented, unselfish, etc)
If I'd have to name the 5 players that will really define the Canadiens leadership Core, going forward, it would be : Suzuki, Anderson, Petry, Price and Gally.
So i think Anderson and Suzuki are probably the 2 players the HABS are less likely to trade. They'd trade Caufield before IMO

Am I the only that thinks this - too many wingers on this team
Having too many wingers will make sense if MB is able to make a big trade. Instead of having 4 TOP 6 wingers, we currently have 6 of them . So the question is : currently, who are the habs that qualify as real TOP 6 wingers and that would have the highest value in a trade ??? . Probably Toffoli and Caufield have the highest value. Then it's Anderson and Hoffman. Then Drouin and Gallagher (Gally's on a bad contract).
So having all these top 6 wingers would allow for example MB to trade Toffoli + a 1st and maybe get what we need most, a top 6 centerman. Too often a trade is made , you plug a hole but a new one is created. With what we have we can trade 2 wingers and still be ok
Anyway, that's the only way i can make sense of the Hoffman signing, because there truly are too many wingers currently and could be a problem if no trade is made!

What i think game 1 looks like
Totally agree with that line up, That is If Bozak can be signed for 3 years max.
The only thing, i haven't heard any rumors about Bozak coming in Montreal. Did you ?
Anderson and Drouin played very well together for some time last year so that'S good
Also When playing teams strong defensive teams like Islanders which requires winning puck battles, I would swap Lehkonen with Caufield on 1st

if MTL takes the contender route
interesting post cause it's very realistic and feasible...but i don't think we contend with this line-up. KK is just not there yet . Poor to average in the D zone. To contend MB will have to perform some magic. If you can somehow take Byron's money and Schmidt and turn that into a Hamilton... Or put 5.5 $M on Danault instead of Schmidt.
I doubt the rangers miss the playoffs but a TDL trade for a Drouin - Zibanejad - Toffoli line could be great
That no.1 power play would be awesome though .

You have a point about the cap space and i took that in consideration. It's a question of timing. My guess is Caufield will be 80% of Eichel in a few years (He will cost 7$M maybe then). But I'd like the habs to take a shot at the cup NOW while Price is hot !
Also, if Danault is leaving we are in a deep need for a center
Eichel and Suzuki at the center line, that's a contender centerline !!!

Year 3
The way i see it, 2020 to 2022 , we should be playoff contender,
In 2022-23, the cap hit will hit big time as your post clearly shows. Suzuki getting paid in the areas you mention, and Weber still there. I think a 2 years retool will occur at that time, until Weber retires.
When weber retires, we'' suddenly have 8 miilion to spend on 2 top 6 guys, or one top 3 guy, this will make a huge difference.
In other words, because of Price and Weber contracts, we'll have a good team for a few years, but not a Stanley Cup team that can beat Mackinnon and friends !
I hope Weber is unprotected and Seattle picks him, but it is unlikely.
Can't afford to pay Weber 8 M cap space when he'll be 37 yrs. old.

HALL 21-22
Looks good but the problem will be the year after. Let's say you need an extra 4M for Suzuki transition + 2$M extra for Romanov. You save ALzner 2M$ with Alzner cap gone.
If Weber plans to play till he'S 40, we're in trouble. Hope Seattle takes Weber, that's the only way we'll have enough space to add an impact player SOON and keep are key players.

Where were at now
Yes that's were we are, with only 2.5$M left on cap.
HABS signed Edmundson too soon. Allen was a necessity but Edmundson a luxury. Replace Edmundson for example with Bogosian at 1$M, then you are at 5$M Cap space. Then trade Byron, you have 8.5$ : then you can start looking for the most needed impact player : O.S Sergachev, Taylor Hall, O,S Vince Dunn, etc.

How about DUCLAIR need input from sens fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>"So why not go for Duclair. On pace for 26 goals last year. Can be dominant when in his game." I know stats aren't everything....so you wanna pay Duclair 3m (which might be fair) but Andersen who was on a prorated pace to score three goals last season gets 5.5m. Yea Anderson is more of 20/20 player with some power to his game.</div></div>
i'll admit Anderson is a Gamble, but you can't draw to much from his 1 goal/26 games. Drouin had this kind of drought i think 2 years ago, he was like 4 points in 20 games. Domi was 1 goal in 15 games somewhere last year (my numbers are not exact, just from memory).
Habs are betting on the ''2018 playoffs'' Anderson

need a Left-handed winger on 3rd line with great passing skills to feed KK. I see Killhorn more like a gallagher type of player and Armia is already doing that kind of work on your 3rd line.

Yeah i agree on most you say. It was either Danault, KK, Suzuki or Domi. Bergevin chose Domi.
Anyway, it was impossible to add Caufield to that small size roster. With Domi replaced by Anderson, suddenly Caufield makes more sense. In 2 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>Not a 2C. A top 6 winger.</div></div>
Center is where Domi will thrive , but it will require 2, or 3 ingredients : one winger with size ,one winger good defensively, and ideally the right winger has a good shot as Domi can pass really well from left to right.

I'll be honest, I donT' know Roslovic much. But Domi is a 60 points per year, and an electryfying center. I dont think they compare. Columbus fans will love him. As a habs fan, the only reason i can live with this trade is because we have a significant lack of physical players,Tatar, Drouin, Caufield, Byron,

We need Sergachev
We need but we can't.
At first, when habs signed Edmundson, i was very angry cause i knew immediately this meant that the habs decided they would not invest in a a top 2 mobile LHD (Dunn, Sergachev, OEL, etc).
After I did a few caps projection, I understood why.
Given that the habs want to keep their core (price, weber, petry, Gally, Danault, etc), and resign KK and Suzuki, they can only afford to spend on either a top 6 forward or a top pair defenseman, not both. In other words, they can only invest in a 7 or 8 million player, not 2. Assessing our main weakness in playoffs was scoring, they decided to go with offense. My 50 cents. So sorry but no Sergy

Tomorrows plan
Your Roster could be amazing in a few years when players reach their prime.
IF ... Domi, Laine works improve on defense a little + KK and Suzuki take another step.
This improvement is all very likely to happen.
The problem is your plan only works if Weber retires when Suzuki is due for his next contract.
Next offseason : You need to sign KK and Laine : That's 10-11 millions for both
You will not be able to resign Tatar. Let'S hope Caufield can somehow fill Tatar shoes in 2021-22 (He's an A prospect but won'T score 70 points before a few years)
Then you absolutely need to get rid of Alzner's contract. With Tatar and Alzner gone you save 8 millions.
Gally will need 3 more millions. So you need to send Byron which you did.
What i am trying to say is that there will be absolutely no money left beginniong of 2022, unless Weber retires or is traded. Then you could be ok to sign Suzuki. If not, I don't think your nice offensive line-up could 'survive' 2022.
