Pasta TDL trade if Boston is out
Not sure why Boston would trade Pasta even if they are out at the deadline. I know he’s an expiring UFA, but if the teams wants him and he wants to be in Boston…those situations usually get resolved.

Oilers well that ends well
I don’t understand the Mike Smith inclusion in the trade…
You could bump the Bear trade down to a 3rd or 4th at this point if there doesn’t have to be a contract/salary going back to the Canes.

Respectfully disagree but I get it. This is what Hurricanes fans thought in 2019

It traces directly back to trading for a RFA without a contract, giving him a middle 6 scoring winger contract, then realizing he’s a bottom 6 grinder.
He’s not a bad player, but the expectations were out of whack

I’d be willing to say that the Flyers would be better than the markets think they will be…embarrassing is a quite strong word here.

Bear and this years lines
Dickinson would be a 13th forward for the Canes. Defensive depth - especially a RFA RHD - far more valuable to the Canes, both trade value and roster value.
I think there is a misconception that the Canes would trade Bear for a pick and they will take anything - not true. They would make a hockey trade for a player who could help us this year, or futures which provides cap space.

If there was a 3rd on the table for Bear, he would have likely been traded before the $2.2x1 deal was signed.

There was a ‘going rate’ for Bear?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Except Vancouver want Bear. Allvin seems to want Bear, that we know. That's why these have come up. Allvin and Dorion want Bear. A cap neutral deal can be had, but for Carolina to take Dickinson, Vancouver would need to add a lot. A 3rd for Bear has been the going rate, and I'd not be willing to take on Dickinson for anything less than a second in addition. If that comes in the form of a 1st, I'd take that, but Dickinson barely got to 10 points in 60 games as a forward.</div></div>

straight ahead
Why would the Habs do the Canes trade? Is it that important for the Habs to get rid of Dvorak? Regardless of the destination or the cap situation for the Canes - don’t understand retaining long term to basically dump a player.

Bear to Vancouver is the new JT Miller trade. I remember the good ole days…
Did everyone know that Bear had a fractured ankle last year? I didn’t even know he was a right handed defenseman.

I think the point being made by the poster is that a trade between the Canes and Nuks is unlikely.
Comments about nobody wanting Bear and Dickinson, pounding sand and values being off do not matter.
Both sides need a cap neutral or cap beneficial deal which makes any deal challenging.

LTIR drawbacks do make it a positive to move the contract and stay out of LTIR in total. There is a reason the Canes couldn’t do much at the deadline last year, and got Domi for basically free within the last 30 seconds of TDL day. Using in season LTIR prevents from accruing cap space.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fullblowncaniac90</b></div><div>Gardiner's not going to be at camp and is likely LTIRetired, no point for the canes to give up a round for that</div></div>

Bear and Gardiner for Anything
Yes, he’s not heathy. I think Waddells comments early in the summer were taken out of context. They had an expectation he will be healthy, but he’s not healthy enough to play now. He not joining training camp and is expected to be on LTIR again this season.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jah1722</b></div><div>Did something happen that changed Gardiner’s prospects of playing this year? I thought there was an announcement saying he would play.</div></div>

Agreed this type of thing is incentivized by a team buying on Bear and taking on Gardiners final year. It wouldn’t be a team getting to the floor.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Sure, but there are also currently a total of zero teams under the cap floor. Buffalo and Arizona are the two closest, and both have already made their "get to the floor" moves (Buf=Bishop, Arizona=overpaying Crouse).</div></div>

Exactly the point. It’s an unlikely scenario but it affords a lot of flexibility in season and at the deadline.
A contending team can do a lot of depth adding (or a difference maker) with $5m in deadline cap space.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>That's a different scenario though; if Gardiner is on LTIR for the year then they don't need to move him at all. This one is using Bear to dump him assuming he's not on LTIR.</div></div>

The point is not using LTIR…I know what you are saying and it’s likely the probable outcome, but the point is LTIR means you can kiss any TDL adding goodbye. If this can be done prior to season starting - $1.6m cap space can grow to around $5m-ish around the TDL.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>InRodWeTrust</b></div><div>Gardiner is going on LTIR and the FO will be fine with that. We'll find out Bear's fate in the coming days I think, but future considerations wouldn't be worth it at all. Let's circle back on this same time next week and see how this ages.</div></div>

Jets need a re-tool
Canes would probably do this if they didn’t have a salary cap to worry about. Gardiner is expected to be on LTIR the entire season now and this trade puts the Canes in a major cap bind with the beginning of camp looming

Bear amp Valimaki
Bear talk is too polarizing for me to spend too much time on it. He’s a 5/6/7 defenseman with some defensive issues. Hope he does well, but he’s not a top 4 defenseman especially not on the Canes. A waste of time to argue about it.
