Ottawa Senators signed Stephen Halliday (2 Years / $1,200,000 AAV)

I don't think he could have for at least 1-2 years actually. College rules are a bit different. Not until he graduates I believe.

Ottawa Senators signed Mathieu Joseph (4 Years / $2,950,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>-Senators trade Connor Brown 4M per to WSH for 2024 2nd Round Pick
-Senators extend Mathieu Joseph. He will make 2.5M in 2022-23.
-Joseph will play the same role as Brown for 1.5M less in 2022-23.
-That role is top matchup/defensive winger, and top unit PK time. Occasional fill in on top 2 lines. Expect 30 points and 18 minutes a night with tough d-zone deployment.
That's basically what this is about. The Senators are spending in the mid 70 millions in real cash.
The Senators are at about 72 million in real money spent with a 19 player roster. If the Senators find their mythical top 4D, this trade points to Formenton being part of the package that gets him. Formenton will get something similar to Kakko, 2 years at 2.XX million. Which means he will make around 1.5-2.0 million in year 1. Brannstrom will either sign his qualifying offer, or get 2 years at around 1.5 million. Either way, he ends up making about 1 million next year since a 2 year deal would be backloaded. Senators also need to give up assets to dump Zaitsev and his 2M base salary.
I don't remember the exact number their budget was confirmed at, it might have been 74 million. Chychrun makes 4 million this season, Weegar makes 4.75 million, Klingberg is probably asking for something in the 4 million range. You do the math. Unless the Senators budget is higher than previously reported, Formenton+Zaitsev will go out in either a trade or a series of trades to add the top 4D. Or, they will keep the roster as is right now with the exception of Formenton and Brannstrom signed to bridge deals or their qualifying offers.
For example, if they sign Klingberg, it wouldn't surprise mt to see Formenton as the sweetener for a team to take Zaitsev. If they trade for Chychrun, Formenton+Zaitsev will both be in the deal, along with the assets for Chychrun. Same deal with Weegar or whoever else. That's my theory....</div></div>
Klingberg is definitely looking for a lot more than 4 million. Hell Gudbranson just signed for 4X4. This makes Klingberg like a 6-8 million dollar player. I am sure he is not taking any less than that. Subban might be a decent option if he is not too washed up. Could probably be had for around or less than 3 mil. Maybe 2.5. You could see the internal route with Thomson and JBD both rights unless Zaitsev's contract can be Dumped. Probably why Ottawa drafted so many D this year, once Zub and then Sanderson sign long term Ottawa will badley need those ELC's to fill the ranks.

Ottawa Senators signed Tomas Hamara (3 Years / $836,667 AAV)
Exciting skill but could be a real project. Apparently he had the worst showing in the skating/endurance drills as per sens prospects twitter from the recent dev camp. I think the first two picks are heading to college and unable to sign so this seems like more of a publicity signing. If he played pro in Europe last year I wonder if he is eligible to come straight to the AHL. Congratulations to the kid.

(OTT/MIN) - Gustavsson for Talbot
Fair deal, could favour Minnesota if Gus can bounce back under a better defence.
Ottawa has pretty low risk here, if they are out of the playoffs or if Forsberg is running with it, Talbot would still carry a lot of weight at the deadline to get a late first or second rounder.
Gus was not the guy after a so-so season last year. Seems to have confidence issues sometimes but this is common with younger people. Sogard, Mando and to some degree Leevi will give us lot's of security in net going forward.
GSG!

Ottawa Senators signed Logan Brown (1 Year / $750,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>Not an OTT fan or anything here, but really want to know - has this guy just not panned out, or has OTT done something to stunt his development?</div></div>
He has struggled with staying health since he was drafted. Injured in junior two years in row, left wjc injured, injured in the AHL the last couple of years. He has hand and wrist injuries', back problems, I think some knee or leg issues maybe shoulder as well. Last year he thought he had a spot in training camp but lost it to Josh Norris. Was sent down and looked bad, before getting injured. Previously a year or two ago he thought he was not given enough of a shot and his agent complained to the public media about not getting a fair shake. He has been close to a point per game in the AHL and has a wicked shot and vision. Just injuries and compete as well as maybe foot speed have been a question. Still one of our most skilled prospects so hard to move on.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffSkinnerFan53</b></div><div>How is this still unconfirmed</div></div>
It was publicly announced by the Ottawa Senators. I think this may have more to do with it being reviewed and confirmed by the NHL offices. Friday before a long weekend, I guess everyone left early or took the day off.

He is only getting 2.5 and 3.5 mil in the first 2 years. Definitely a fair contract and worth the price. If you just look at the cap hit them maybe it is overpay but for his prime 6 years, this is a solid deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheWolfe</b></div><div>That was more or less what I meant though I don't think he'll appreciate his new income tax</div></div>
Only 2 mil left in real dollars, he has already got the most out of this including a 3 mil bonus this year. Even if he has to pay an extra 2-300k in tax, a drop in the bucket.

Ottawa Senators signed Chris Tierney (2 Years / $3,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>I don't like that it goes right to Ufa. But I guess he likely gave in a bit on salary to do that. Likely could have been 4 with more term. Suppose it makes sense.
But I'm neutral at best as it's the worst term for the team</div></div>
He would have been a UFA in one year. They got one year of UFA from him at a very reasonable price. The escrow and back loaded contract has him making less than his last deal on year 1. With White, Brown, Norris, Pinto and potentially Stuzzle all playing centre there is not much room for him long term. Hard to say if he is better than White or the other guys now but definitely the most consistent and best defensively of the bunch. A second or first line guy in Ottawa but realistically a 3rd line centre on a contending team. Will likely be available at the expansion draft or 2022 trade deadline unless his production shifts dramatically . Maybe better linemates can do this.
