(TBL/COL) - Colton for 2023 2nd (MTL)
Avs win by taking advantage of the Lightning's cap situation. Newhook for Colton, the 31OA pick and a prospect is INSANE(especially because IMO, Colton>Newhook, although Newhook is less proven). I don't think the value is far off though.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>Could not have asked for better asset management from the Avs so far. We now have a 2C and a 3C; just need another top 6 winger (maybe a veteran signing a cheap deal for a contender like JVR or Pacioretty) but I would not mind one bit if we sent a 1st rounder to Florida to get Duclair.</div></div>
I think Colton should get top 6 minutes on the Avs. I'd love to see a 2nd line of Colton-Johansen-Rantanen. That would be INSANE.

I still remembering predicting St Louis winning the cup a few years back before the season. By January they were in last place and they were talking about blowing it up and I was like "nah minor changes". New goalie, New Coach and they won the cup that year. I am still riding the high of making that call before the season :P

Unless Vegas can do something about their goaltender situation, they're not making the playoffs.
I look forward to the LA/Edmonton rematch. I think the Kings will come out on top this time.

Hertl is two months older than Connor Brown.
I agree about taking Formenton out of the trade.
I think a five year extension is best, but I'd go six if I had to
Ottawa is two years from serious contention, but they're getting close to the playoffs now. Hertl aged 30 when the Sens are serious contenders is fine. Throwing out the age of the final season is misleading.
Protect the first, it's a legitimate request.
I don't care if Hertl has a three team trade list, this is all speculation here anyway.

Ottawa makes another BIG move with San Jose
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenericUsername489</b></div><div>1. I never said Brown and Formenton were top prospects. Brown wants out and Formenton is good enough to fill the extra needed value imo. Brannstrom is not a Drysdale or a Seider, which is what I think when I hear "top prospect." Brannstrom is closer to a Guhle or a Harley which I would think is a tier below. Maybe I'm wrong in my definition. And yeah, D definitely take longer than F to develop.
2. Yeah, but if Hertl wants out badly enough, the list becomes completely irrelevant and he'll accept a trade to wherever Wilson finds a good deal. And even if every team had an equal chance; Tampa, Vegas, Colorado, etc. all have a less than 10% chance of being on his no-trade list and then the site becomes irrelevant for theorizing major deals.
It's all in good fun.</div></div>
1. People have different opinions on what a top prospect is.
Mine involves one of the following as being a top prospect:
A. Any U18 hockey player that has yet to be drafted in the NHL, but is definitely worthy of being drafted somewhere in the first round.
B. Any former 1st round pick between the age of 18 and 27 who might be taken in the first round again if re-inserted into the draft.
C. Any prospect that has yet to play in the NHL full-time but would satisfy A or B.
2. If I'm in Hertl's shoes, I would think the 3 team trade list will come in handy.
It gives him a say on where he's traded and would allow him to be traded to his 3 favourite NHL teams/cities, aside from San Jose.
When Buffalo was trying to trade Taylor Hall, Hall had an NMC and would only allow a trade to Boston.
Hall wanted to dictate the name of the team that would acquire him and he didn't care what Buffalo got back in return.
If I'm Hertl, I would want the same thing when San Jose will try trading me.

Hintz value read the description to give an opinion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenericUsername489</b></div><div>Yeah, if Kotkaniemi wouldn't work as a starting point there's no way a deal would ever get done, even in my imagination. Totally understand since Hintz is a stud.
Right now, Hintz has shown to be the better player in the regular season but Suzuki's killing it in the playoffs, he's younger and his upside is higher. There's definitely an argument on both sides.</div></div>
I didn’t state that Hintz was better than Suzuki I just said that getting Hintz will cost a holy overpay which is Suzuki+. Same scenario if a team wanted Suzuki you’d want way more than he is worth. Same thing goes for Hintz for Dallas, if we don’t get something that says this will change the franchise around than we won’t part ways with our best forward.

Personally I think he’s probably our 4th best center behind Gregor, Couture and Hertl. Better than Kellman Gambrell, etc. I’m also a bit of a simp for his play style though so I’m definitely biased. But I genuinely think he has 3C potential in him.
The Sharks have yet to give him an opportunity which actually lets him prove his worth as opposed to drawing into the lineup sporadically. So that’s been frustrating too. I know he has the skill set in him, just not sure if we’ll actually see it.

PLD because this site needs originality
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenericUsername489</b></div><div>Dubois is ideally a 2C at this point. He's pretty overrated on this website. He could be a solid 1C very soon but not yet.
Suzuki has also been overrated thus far. His regular season doesn't put him in top 5, maybe 10, rookies (although it was an excellent rookie class). He absolutely helped shut down Pittsburgh and was great against Philly so that did show his real potential as a Patrice Bergeron type. PLD is still growing so it can't be held against him that he's "just" Danault to this point. Dubois isn't as bad defensively as you seem to think and experience always brings better defense over time.</div></div>
I didn't mean to make it sound as if Dubois was bad defensively. I only meant compared to Danault he was average to good. But that is because Danault is elite.
With regards to Suzuki you are absolutely right he is still just a prospect who had a good rookie season. Both Suzuki and PLD have great potential the issue is, from a Habs standpoint it doesn't make sense to give up Suzuki for Dubois. Especially seeing as Dubois has been around 3 years and hasn't put up more than 61 points. That could absolutely change quickly but until it does his trade value is a 2nd line center with POTENTIAL 1st line ceiling. So basically Danault + Norlinder for value then add a 1st for potential ceiling. That certainly doesn't mean that the Habs are going to give up Danault + KK +++ for Dubois and if the deal starts with Suzuki it makes no sense as he is a potential Bergeron type player. IMO there really isn't a fit between Montreal and Columbus for PLD. KK could potentially be a similar player and Suzuki could potentially be a Bergeron type of player. Therefore there is really no need to make the trade in the first place.

I think Armia vs Virtanen is pretty close but Virtanen is a few years younger and under team control. Armia is a UFA after next season

Tell Me About Michal Kempny
Michal Kempny got 18 points at even strength this past year and was +19. Current Rangers who did both last year are Panarin, Fox, and if they can sign him, Strome. Adding a fourth guy at that level for a 7th round pick would be awesome if you could do it, but let's be realistic.
Some Caps fans are giving away lots of guys left and right to make cap space for Hall. Other Caps fans think that the guys the old coaches benched have to be traded because the coaches didn't like them. But the coaches all got fired. The old head coach is back to being an assistant in Pittsburgh. His opinion doesn't matter anymore.
NYR, NSH, MTL, and BUF are all rumored to want a top-four LHD. Could one of them score Kempny cheaply if the Caps really are in on Hall? Sure. Otherwise, bidding probably has to get up to about a 2nd round pick, or at least a high third and a risk/reward prospect, before the Caps are strongly motivated to sell? The only way they go cheaper is if Brendan Dillon wants to stay in Washington on a contract cheaper than Kempny's, and Carlson is happier skating with Dillon, but Carlson has put up his best offensive numbers of his career playing with Kempny, so I'd honestly be surprised.
Other guys that lots of Caps fans on here are giving away cheaply are Hagelin and Panik, two wings who consistently get about 30 points a year and not only play on the Caps' top penalty killing unit, but helped it rise from a bottom ten unit before their arrival to a top ten unit this year. Kempny's defensive improvement was a part of that rise as well. I highly recommend all three players, but I don't think a 7th pick is doing it. The Caps could use a right shot defenseman. They could use a center who's good at faceoffs. Their prospect depth has again been rated the worst in the league by the Athletic, so prospects at any position besides LHD should be tempting.

Kuokkanen
Based on what the Leafs got for Kapanen, Johnsson's value should be somewhere around the Devils latest 1st round pick (ideally, Vancouver I would think) plus someone like Kuokkanen, or McLeod. I have always liked Kuokkanen's game, he plays a solid defensive game, and sure the Leafs could use depth at center behind Matthews and Tavares, but I do not consider Kuokkanen's projectability beyond a bottom-6, and that would be generous. I would actually project the Leaf's newest prospect, Hallander, as having a higher ceiling than Koukkanen, even though he may not be as NHL-ready.
