polishing the lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GuyGuyGuy</b></div><div>I would have to disagree. Our future top 6 is better and more safe than our future top 4. The only one we know is gonna be there is Guhle, with Reinbacher having a 99% chance. Hutson could very well flop. If it happen, our D is deep, but not very good. Our top 6 is pretty much complete. Only improvement will be our 2024 first over Anderson</div></div>
I don't see an elite forward in our top 6, either now or future. And most teams winning the cup have at least 1 or 2. They do have a few top 6 players in Dach, Suzuki, Caufield, with the addition of Newhook and Slaf possibly.
Our prospect pool has no one with top 6 potential imo. Roy, Kidney, Farrell, Heineman, Beck, Mesar are probably all 3rd liners if they make it. The rest isn't really worth mentioning. Our strength is in defense.
I'd say habs should package some of them with some of our d prospects to acquire that needed offensive talent, now or before we get into playoffs mode. (Which is probably 2-3 years away)

Gordos Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>All I have ever heard from insiders and reporters about Anderson is that GMs love him and that Hughes has already turned down multiple offers that included a 1st. I get fans on this site have the OPINION that he's a negative asset but until someone who actually knows what they're talking about says it Im going to continue to side with people who actually talk to the people making the trades on his value.
Xhejak is the youngest heavy weight in the league and plays a competent third pairing role, that gets you a late first at just about any trade deadline, plus if he is being traded to a rival that price would be a premium.
Like I said, three 1st rounders would have to be added to this deal for MTL to say yes. Should Toronto even consider that? No, it would be hella stupid. Is it the reality of the situation? Yes</div></div>
It's just hard for Leaf fans to use common sense.

What Next
I don't see Habs taking Schmidt contract, for this and next season without something more interesting. It would also take a spot from one of our young dman coming in, and I would much rather see them play compared to a cap dump.

Bidding for Petey
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeautifulIdiot</b></div><div>It would depend then on the 24 pick placement, if it is top 3 that would be one thing, but if MTL makes progression then it wouldn’t be worth it.</div></div>
Possibly, i don't know for sure. I feel like habs would have some sort of protection with the pick. To be honest though, I doubt MTL & VAN are good trade partners for Petey, both teams should be looking at rebuilding. Montreal is already rebuilding and should keep going that way for at least this and next season, not move their 1sts and instead add some.
For Vancouver, can't say I know what they need but it seems like they've made a lot of meh decisions with their picks lately. Petey could indeed help getting some picks and prospects however i might see Buffalo as a better trade partner. They have more impactful fwd prospects than us, that's for sure.

Pretty sure he's not moving, or it would've made no sense to draft him in the first place instead of Michkov/Benson, also we could've just got a RD in this draft instead. 2024

Bidding for Petey
While having Petey would probably be exciting and speed up process, I think the Habs would rather continue the rebuild. I'm not sure it's really smart to empty our prospect pool / top picks for 1 player. (I know Petey is solid)
We would be looking at what?
Dach
Guhle
Barron
1st MTL 2024
1st CGY 2025
Something like that?
I don't think it make sense for the Habs considering we pretty far from competing for a cup. We still don't have a 1st goalie.

Next year tbh
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ross_Johnston</b></div><div>you could bundle barron with a first and another prospect and net a pretty good package. trading Harris for a second round pick in three years just hurts the Habs</div></div>
Totally agree with you, it would be stupid to do so. However, I don't think habs should trade their 1st this year or next. We could move the Calgary pick in 2025 depending on which pick we receive with the 1000 conditions of that Monahan trade lol
Honestly, I don't see a fit for Barron, i'm not really a fan of him. Move him and you can always draft a RD if needed. Konyushkov is looking solid in the KHL however. What the habs need right now is a top offensive forward/prospect and a young goalie. (Monty ain't it, Fowler and Dobes could become something but not sure value either)

Not done yet I think
Habs probably say no, we already have enough forwards. (Not saying deal isn't good enough, just roster wise it doesn't work)
We have 15, including Armia going to Laval and Dvorak going on LTIR (probably)

Maybe not together but i'm sure you can find a way to add 1 of them onto a package for a need like you say

Competing
Y'all gotta stop making us Habs fans look bad, geez. These trades are terrible, for any of these you'll have to remove the quantity and add quality. We should just stay on the current path. What's the point, you don't rebuild by taking shortcuts.
Habs shouldn't be focusing on making the playoffs this season but rather keep the rebuild going for 1 or 2 more year, we're far from getting into that competing for a cup stage. Do you really think we gonna compete with Monty and Allen in net?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>No way they make him play in the OHL. Their mentality is don't rush a kid. You can see that with how they are handling Slafkovsky. Beck isn't making the NHL next year.

That's not happening, Habs aren't gonna trade their 1st pick for Dubois. A lot of the Atlantic teams improved, giving the Habs a huge head start to be last in their division. You don't trade that 1st pick when you'll have a good chance of finishing top 5 in the draft that has a really deep top 10.

What Every Canadain team should do MTL Editon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Seems there are only a handful of Canadian fans across all teams who talk sense. The rest are utterly deluded. Always surprises me somehow but there we go!</div></div>
I agree with you, I guess that goes with how Canadians fans are passionate. But some of them are really ridiculous.
If Girard gets traded, it'll be for a way better return. But, I don't think it's gonna be Montreal. He fits one need (Puck moving dman) but just doesn't fit the one hole we really need to fill, as we have way too many LDs and not enough RDs.
