I thought v2 and v3 were separate entities.... it should be that way like v1 and v2 being separate. That would mean you couldn’t do anything with your team until it was reset meaning; if you traded him, hes gone for good.

Yeah but it makes sense the following year to use our rankings, rewarding the teams who have rebuilt on here instead of hurting them. If you were to rebuild with a team who barely makes the playoffs normally and then you end up with the 16th pick in the draft from owning your teams pick: it becomes less helpful and more unrealistic than getting the higher pick your team deserves imo.

I don’t agree that it’s overpay if it’s Zadina vs Dobson and Thomas... Zadina is a higher level prospect. I believe it’s like an A+ prospect vs an A prospect and a B+ prospect, but that’s the cost to upgrade at the top imo.

Sabres if they wish to contend now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>Trading O'Reilly for #2 overall makes no sense for either Carolina or Buffalo in my opinion. Especially if Buffalo is going to pay Bozak 6 million when for 1.5 million more O'Reilly is 100 times better. Buffalo can get a much better more useful package for O'Reilly. I don't know if my argument is making sense, but the last thing Buffalo needs is to draft another forward in round 1. I would restructure the Carolina trade to get Hanifin for ROR or Bean and Skinner. Something to help Buff win now. I'll probably make a post about it.</div></div>
That’s not happening. Hanifin is much better than ror imo same with bean and skinner. The whole point of the trade is to make Car compete now while buf rebuilds. That’s the general direction each should take.

I did an updated mock signing bozak to a 3 year deal. The team looks solid imo if everyone plays an honest game. With the svechnikov deal you already have your 4th stud so the team is ready to “compete” finishing around 8th worst. That’s another good player but everyone just getting to play in a better role is solid.
I like the Hagelin idea, he’s probably very cheap but an nhler. I put Larsson top line to balance the skill on each line. He could easily be carried by Eichel and Reinhart to a 35 point season imo if he kept up.
Stacking one line doesn’t work. If they don’t do great there’s basically no chance to win. Boston May have the best line in hockey, but line 2 had 2x .69 ppg players and a .61 player and then a .61, .58, .54 on line 3. Each line has potential to score is my point. I’m sure you’re aware that a .50 ppg player is a 40 pointer so they have really diverse scoring potential.
Buffalo needs to save cap too...Dahlin, mittelstadt, Guhle, Nylander and in this scenario svechnikov... that’s like 26m
if you gave mittelstadt, Dahlin and svechnikov 6m deals leaving 4m for Nylander and Guhle.

It usually takes a full season to get back near where they performed before. I think he’ll be bad this coming season and then when you add in age, he’s realistically not a good top four option moving forward. It was a bad signing.... chiarelli copied the model he used in Boston signing the top lhd avaialble (Chara). He then followed the model of trading a high end player (seguin) for spare parts (eriksson and co) when he moved hall for Larsson.
The guy has a learning disability or something. Any thread that has Edmonton winning a deal is instantly unrealistic imo. His biggest achievement was ruining a bruins dynasty.

It’d get unrealistic with the amount of trades to use mtl. Lehner would have to go somewhere else.
I think a lw would help too, but svechnikov is better imo. I personally believe they are about even at Rw and lw honestly. Is Reinhart really going to be enough to carry Okposo to be more valuable a year fromnow compared to Nylander and Smith? I’m uncertain of that.... Nylander has high upside and every buf fan is raving about Smith.

I got lost in this thread because you said you were trading for ek ( Erik karlsson) instead of OEL ( Oliver ekman-Larsson) so I couldn’t follow along. I think Faulk is worth more than you gave though.
If trading parayko, why not choose Edmonton? Probably net you nuge + #10 with how great parayko is. That’d give you the c you’d have to give back in Staal and replace him with nuge. #10 could be Dobson who could end up a great rhd who’d replace parayko. If you think nuge + 10 is unrealistic to acquire, remember chiarelli traded superstar Taylor hall for 2nd pair Adam Larsson. Just food for thought...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wagsnags</b></div><div>Girgensons, Nylander & Smith are better suited on the first line before Larsson.... though I would prefer Nylander on the 3rd line with Mittelstadt.
So I guess Girgensons or Smith.... but your team has left you 14 Million of cap space.... I would look to sign Vanel even if you overpay for 2 years and insert him on that first line to start the year.
I think your bigger need on your team is a 2C. Mittlestadt needs to be the #3C for 18/19 to let him mature and development. Do not increase the expectations & pressure on the kid. You might consider signing Riley Nash to fill that #2C position.</div></div>
Riley nash is no 2nd liner.... hello sir bruins fan here! He’s like a step up from girgensons his entire career until this year, but he got points from playing with elite 1st and 2nd liners this year due to injuries. He’s a solid guy I can’t say enough about how he’s played this season, but if you’re putting him with C.J. smith and Pominville prepare for 25 points out of him. I can’t Think you’d want that for the 3m+ it’d take to sign him.
Yeah I didn’t sign anyone because I think you need to add one more top 5 guy. Either that or you need an all star goalie to make the playoffs. Falling in between doesn’t help as much... do you really want to end up the 12th worst team just to say you won more games? I’d rather have the top 5 guy because he’s going to form a quad of stars with Eichel, mittelstadt, Dahlin and player x. That’s the ticket to the dance imo.
Fill in around them with ufa in one seasons time when you have 20m cap. Then another 5m player brought in when bogo leaves. I’m hoping JBott was the foresight to tank one more season and then make a giant push for the playoffs. It was much more interesting playing buffalo 5 times a year when they were competitive with Boston. Vanek is the biggest bruins slayer so maybe mittelstadt or player x could become that as well.

2017-18 GM Game - News and Important Info Thread
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan419</b></div><div>I see your point, which then brings up an even more confusing set of questions.
Would v3 follow the real life draft order? This is a sweet deal for whoever is assigned as the NEW GM of Buffalo.
In order to allow the in game GM's a chance to draft who they want, which I also agree with, the v3 draft should be held within a few days of June 1st so we can all have time to put our new prospect lists together prior to our new team pages being posted.
Following that I would think free agency should open the day after the v3 draft is held. Again so we all have a chance to put the pieces in the right place on team pages prior to being posted. Unless we create and post our new team pages right after they are assigned.
Again, just thoughts, not meant to be set in stone.
And I really do agree with what you said.</div></div>
I agree, there’s no point in not letting the gms of this league draft whomever they want. Going by real life drafting completely eliminates a facet of the game.
It’d be a waste to not get this version done right so it can last. Picks 2 years out are phony in the structure we’ve appearently used and even if the promise was to run 2 years it’d still eliminate the value of picks 3 years out because they don’t come to fruition. I think that’s silly and unrealistic seperateing us further from real gms.
If more minds need to be invested in getting the league right then there should be more polls used to get the majorities wishes done right on hot topics. That’s really the goal wether you fall in the majority or not. Falling outside the majority doesn’t mean you’re forced to like it, but the bright side is more people are happy if more opinions are incorporated.

Yeah but you have zero opt.ions right now. I didn’t want to make a 5 trade thread because it’s extremely unlikely. Maybe I could have brought in one more guy, but the lines should be balanced. I could have tried Okposo on the left, but that’s not very pretty either. Maybe Pominville 1st lw and bump Larsson to line 4. Seems like a better option, what would you think about that?

Yeah I forgot goldobin. Didn’t know Pettersson was strong enough for the nhl yet, he was a twig when drafted.
McCabe is an upgrade for a modest pick. Baby steps. Probably need a couple trades for scoring to make this mock have more sensibility. I don’t think van needs to tank if Pettersson ang gaudette have a good year. The defense with McCabe looks “sturdy” imo to put a word to it.

Only two deals: maintaining realism
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wagsnags</b></div><div>Good question.....
How I see it is:
1. McCabe fits the type of game that Housley wants to play. Therefore I would opt to keep him over Hutton but I think the Carolina deal really makes a lot of sense for the organization. That is why I would put Mccabe in the deal with Carolina;
2. We have a decent number of young D prospects such as Guhle, Borgen, Stephens & Martin therefore the need to get Hutton is reduced;
3. I realize that the Carolina deal that I proposed is generous but you did not do anything with Lehner's rights, Fasching's game does not really gel with the Sabres organizational progression & McCabe addition gets me that 2nd overall pick;
4. The 4th Round pick adds value as Vancouver will probably be bottom 10 next year. Does one year of Hutton make sense as his contract is up at the end of 18/19 though he is an RFA;</div></div>
Both players could get better with a change of scenery. Hutton is better than Beaulieu i’ve Heard so if Guhle isn’t ready he’s a solid option to bounce back and take that 3rd lhd slot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wagsnags</b></div><div>Actually I think you are on the right track with the Carolina deal. What I might consider is the following potential changes to the Carolina deal:
1. Do not make the Vancouver trade instead include Mccabe in the ROR deal. Hutton is a decent addition but not really necessary;
2. Include a Hudson Fasching or Bailey in the deal to Carolina. I get it not real exciting but still a young piece that can play minutes and be useful in the lineup or in the AHL;
3. Send the rights to Robin Lehner. Carolina will need a goaltender as my guess is the Ward moves on and Darling was well not very good last year;
So I would offer ROR, McCabe, rights to Fasching & rights to Lehner for that 2nd pick in the 2018 draft.</div></div>
That’s generous.
What do you feel about the Hutton trade isolating it? Did you feel a 4th was sufficient payment?

No clue how much the return could be, but he will be 100% sold if a 2018 2nd has been offered which is cheaper than we had talked about.

Hello Kayla, you had some interest in Spooner before, so here to let you know he’s being auctioned so you could potentially have the first bid. One 2018 2nd starts the bidding, so its potentially a more affordable option if no one else has interest.

Hello sir, here to let you know Spooner is being auctioned off. Starting bid is one 2018 2nd (cheaper than we have talked about). Winning bid could be the only bid, so letting you and a couple others know to bid on him first since you showed interest before.
