Habs decline.
Too much.
And don't lump everyone in the same boat.

Darren Dreger mentioned Zegras to Montreal;
Pierre Lebrun mentioned Zegras to Montreal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>A lot of MTL fans also thought they would get 3 1sts for Monahan.</div></div>
Exactlly zero fans thought that.
And you know that.
That's just Hab-hating right there.
Most people knew Monahan was going to get a 1st back. Some went further, true, some not.
But NO ONE thought what you said. Please.
And yes, Matheson is worth a 1st round pick on the market right now: no question.
If you disagree, that is your opinion.
But saying that "Matheson would get a 1st round pick" is anything but outlandish.
Put the Hab-hating emotions away and the 'homerism' and the bias.
"A lot of MTL fans thought Monahan was going to fetch 3 X 1st??"
Find "a lot" of threads and you gain some credibility back.

PLD has not played with very good wingers for most of the season.
Last couple of games he’s made some nice saucer passes to JAD and JAD can’t buy a goal. Any other good winger would have put the puck in the damn net.
JAD at best is a fringe NHLer. Put fiala back with him where he actually had success with.</div></div>

You can stop lumping eevery single Habs fan in the same bucket... it gets old.
Realize that there are a TON of hockey fans in frigid Montreal, and not everyone thinks alike.
Reply to THAT GUY, not to ALL Habs fan, even if you see Zegras' name come up.
Why on Earth does Zegras's name come up so much?
Because of his summers in Montreal, his friendship with Caufield, the draft year that Kent Hughes (for whetver reason) seems to target... and the fact that Anaheim just drafted another (EXXCELLENT) center, got Gauthier, and with the much media-hyped harsh negociation with Zegras.
Oh... and the flock of hockey experts literally saying on every platform that Zegras may be moved and that Montreal would be a target.
So calm down. No move has been made. This is exactly the website where people try things.
No one has killed your mother and insulted you.
Try to 'decline' that single individual's proposal, but don't react as though the whole city is dumb.
Have you been to Montreal?
It's an amazing city; everyone adores it.
And it's NOT just hockey, or populated with clones of the 5 young teenagers who want to have fun posting on here and get bullied.
Grow up.
Decline. No need to lump everyone in.
Cheers.
Go Ducks!
Go Habs!
Go Zegras!
Go hockey!

Liljegren is like 3x better and the analytics prove it. Savard hasn't been good in years and gets caved in nightly. Tree would be fired into the sun for this one</div></div>
You haven't watched Savard play then. Period.
I'm not saying Lilegren sucks here, and if you can put your Hab-hating reflex on the side a bit, Savard has been a very solid D all season and his value is higher than you think.
He's bigger, stronger, blocks more shots than most D, and has even more points than Lilegren... on a very bad offensive team.
He has leadership for years, and is adored by everyone on the team.
This has value on the market.
Not saying anything against Lilegren here. He has high value too.
But no need to bash Savard saying 'he sucks'. He doesn't suck at all.
Now, in my opinion, the Habs would not do this trade.

I believe this also happens with everyone on here...
I saw COUNTLESS offers for Monahan that were garbage, like a 6th round pick and an ECHLer...
I get it; we love our players, and we know them well.

Relax bro... these trade proposals are all over the place, regardless of team fans and players.
I agree with you, but going for revenge-proposal is useless.
We know Holtz is a good player and he won't be traded for scrap.

I mean... you can say you disagree with a 2nd - and it's true, it seems like a stretch - but for being outrageous.
Monahan got a 1st as a cap dump for one season.
Marleau too.
It's not 'unheard of'.
But I get you - I wouldnt do a 2nd too for Colorado. But sometimes, under the pressure of something else brewing, some GMs need to act quick.
Cheers buddy

With all due respect, I believe the Habs pass on this one.
I think it would cost a 3rd round pick, or a 2nd round pick for the Habs to take the contract.
Just my opinion - I don't know

Having 2 x 1st round picks in 2024 AND 2025, is great leverage.

<a href="/users/Caniac555" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Caniac555</a>
To be fair, and an argument that is valid for both you and me, some fans are just part time fans, and are not aware of exact trade values out there, or of the value of certain prosecpts of other teams. We see that all the time... sometimes we both can give the benefit of the doubt on the person posting, that they may just be a casual fan with an entire life outside of hockey,

There are more, but I just found the ones I commented on…</div></div>
The first 2 are not what I'm talking about. Monahan alone traded for Kappo and a 1st. That's not what these are.
The last one, I agree it's a bit much. There's no Kappo and a 1st as well. But I won't defend that one for sure.
That is an extremely rare occurence. I haven't seen anything like that one... so I agree with you. In every fanbases, there are outliers.
I was people offering a 5th round pick for Monahan.... with retention and a 3rd going back. And they defended it.
But in any case, look at the ACGM thread I posted yesterday: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4861727
The overwhelming majority of Habs fans had Monahan going for either a 1st, or a 2nd+prospect. Can you agree on that?
And I will agree on the fact that some other non-Habs fans also had Monahan going for a 1st; I saw a good portion of it.
I dont want to pick a fight here again haha

As a Habs fan, wouldn't get close to Barclay Goodrow.
Even with a 1st.
Habs already have Gallagher and Anderson as terrible contracts.

You alllllmoooosttt did it.
Just say you were wrong, without immediately following it up with another attempt at bashing.
I have found NO ONE on here proposing Monahan (alone) for Kappo + a 1st. NOT ONE TRADE PROPOSAL like that. Not one.

So yes, you were wrong, Thank you for saying it. You're one of the few who has humility and balls.
And no, people were saying a 2nd round pick + Kappo. Not a 1st + Kappo.
And if you happened to find a SINGLE example, then it would not be a Habs fan (there are trolls here...), or maybe someone who doesn't know... but I have not seen ONE in the last month.

Nope.
Most human beings are UNABLE to show accountability, own their s////t, admit being wrong.
It takes a minimal amount of courage and humility to own it and say you're wrong.
They won't do it, because they lack moral character.
Yet they keep trashing and mocking and insulting fans for the tiniest proposal that doesn't suit their juvenile immature beliefs.
