True, although you want to be in a position to trade for players at the deadline; that cap space won't do you much good if you're running a .500 record like last season. Of course, it's kinda unlikely that a Sonny Milano or a Paul Stastny are the difference between us being mid and being a playoff team, but if there's a move to be made <em>now</em> that they think could improve us for the first 60 games instead of waiting until the last 20, I'm glad we have the flexibility to do it and I hope they take advantage of it

Maybe. Bellows could be an interesting fit on the 4th line, he finishes his checks and is a hard worker, despite not being the strongest imo. I still think he's being underutilized in that role, even though management and coaching value our 4th line differently than other teams. His offensive tools are too intriguing to confine to that role.
Parise on the other hand I think will regress more this year, potentially making the 4th line the best place for him. But if he keeps up his play from last year, he's hands-down a middle-6er and an important part of the offense imo. Maybe that says more about our roster as it's constructed than it does about him, but he was really great last season and produced on every line he was on

Yeah, there's always someone who is randomly hurt to start the year. Clutterbuck had shoulder surgery in the spring and I'm not sure if it's been confirmed he'll be ready. Of course, I'm not against either of them being straight up healthy scratched, but that seems unlikely, at least to start

Interesting idea, but I think Bellows diversifies our forward core better than Foegele does. He's also more expensive, so I think I'd rather we just take our chances with our guy

New York Islanders signed Kieffer Bellows (1 Year / $1,200,000 AAV)
Surprised he hasn’t been traded or cut lose yet. Kief is a really solid player but Trotz never committed to him. Hopefully this year is different and he truly establishes himself

I feel like Bailey for Hoffman on paper isn’t an upgrade for either team, but maybe the Isles benefit from getting a different <em>kind</em> of player? Not sure

I'd do the Arizona deal but what if Ladd doesn't retire? I know there are reports he's been considering it, but it's not a guarantee yet (as far as I'm aware?).
I also don't think Kadri will get 7 years, but kinda besides the point. In any case, I feel like having him play the wing might actually hurt us in the long run because he'd be learning a new position potentially be less effective.

We done or no
Gonna disagree with the other Isles fans in here, I like this trade a lot for us. Unless we’re moving Pageau’s whole contract to free up space for Kadri, I think trading him for Girard is a big upgrade. We need more offense/play-driving from the backend and while I like Romanov, he’s probably not bringing that. Defense would be pretty damn stacked with both of them on board.
Beauvillier or Bailey are probably the ones getting moved anyways, so I don’t see how Pageau has any effect on that

Who’s got $9.15 million in cap space to spare for two middle six forwards though?
That could be a good option for us since we’re guaranteed to be getting a roster player (another defenseman?) back to offset some salary but I just don’t see the incentive for another team to do that

then its a matter of 7M/1 vs 5M/2 and I think the 5M/2 is harder to dump</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Civil_Eng_PE</b></div><div>Feel like dumping Bailey will cost more than Bellows... You probs have to offer up a 2nd/3rd to get him off the books since its 2 years not just 1</div></div>
Personally, Id rather have an NHL player in Kieffer Bellows than a draft pick that isn’t a 1st, but I agree that Bailey is probably going to be challenging to dump at this point. Earlier in the offseason might have been different but teams have their rosters pretty much set now and Bailey is a big contract to take on. I’m not sure how it happens, but Pagnotta said that that was the piece they’ve been looking to move.
Beauvillier you probably don’t have to pay to get rid of but you’d also much rather keep him. Not sure that frees up enough space for Naz either

This is honestly a really good point lol. Maybe it’s part of the reason why Anderson hasn’t been moved

Barrie doesn’t really make any sense for the Isles. He’s older, inferior, costs way more and is under contract longer, type of player we should be avoiding imo

I like the team/lineup. I don’t really want Kadri either tbh but I can’t deny that he does make the team better in the short term, even if he isn’t gonna put up 87 points again (and he won’t).
My concern is that Dobson and Romanov are pretty underpaid here. That, plus the reports that Bailey isn’t being moved kinda makes me doubt the viability of signing an $8 million player and probably part of the reason why we ultimately weren’t very competitive for Gaudreau

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>They still don’t have leverage. Just ask the Blue Jackets lol.</div></div>
Yeah but CBJ had to move someone to sign Laine. STL doesn’t <em>have</em> to trade VT91 and shouldn’t imo. If they had gotten Tkachuk (for futures) they’d be in a pretty similar situation and then maybe we could’ve gotten Vlad for a bag of chips like Seattle got Bjorkstrand lol.
Or we should’ve just been the ones to get him…

Gotta move Tank and Marco
Now that Tkachuk has been traded and a team trying to get Tarasenko has no leverage in trade negotiations, I’d rather pass on him and wait until next offseason to get him as a UFA. Isles obviously need some help on the wings, but the current UFA pool still has some nice, if inferior pieces in it; would rather give up nothing for one of them than a premium asset like Wahly or a 2023 1st for VT91
