They can they have plenty of cap space even with that trade. I just don't see them getting a Johnny Hockey, Filip Forsberg, Geno, Bergeron. If I'm a top free agent I see they were bottom 5 in goals I don't think I'm going there. Also the defense can get better. I think their goalies will be better next year, but the team is gonna need a lot of work. I hope I'm wrong because I like the city of Seattle and want their team to be good.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>Yes, of course they can . . . but Seattle doesn't exist to be the one team in the league that should take on other teams undesirable players/contracts at their cost, brother. You can devalue the Kraken roster all you want---as you did the first time you posted this---but you are mistaken to think Hornqvist has any more value to this club than any other franchise. To be honest, his value is irrelevant. Francis is a failure as a GM if he is paying assets for a player that the rest of the league will not.</div></div>
I didn't say Hornqvist has more value to the kraken? I think he's a valuable player for any team. He provided 2.04 pts/60 as a 4th liner. On a team that doesn't have 3 great lines, he wouldn't have played on the 4th line. The Panthers clearly valued him more than McCann, Sheahan, Driedger, and Wennberg. If him and Bob end up staying with the Panthers then fine. I'm just creating teams for fun here.

That's fine then sign for less. I really just am trying to make a point that Seattle can make moves specifically the Hornqvist trade and still have cap space

Clearing Cap and Trying to Stay in the Hunt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kalopsia</b></div><div>I was using SV% because I can calculate it for each series, while stats like this just give you one number for the entire playoff run. But fine, I'll use this then. Here's his GSAE in the playoffs each year and where it ranks.
13-14: -5.4 GSAE, ranked 25th out of 28
16-17: -3.0 GSAE, ranked 22nd out of 23
17-18: -3.1 GSAE, ranked 24th out of 29
18-19: 0.8 GSAE, ranked 10th out of 22
19-20: -2.3 GSAE, ranked 37th out of 42
20-21: -4.0 GSAE, ranked 23rd out of 24
21-22: 6.7 GSAE, ranked 4th out of 30
And just for fun, here's his numbers from Philly. He wasn't the full time starter for these, but here they are for completeness' sake
10-11: -2.1 GSAE, ranked 20th out of 25
11-12: -2.6 GSAE (in ONE game!), ranked 18th out of 22
So that's one good playoff run, one that was about average, and five that were absolutely awful (which includes by your measure the runs after two of his three best regular seasons), plus a smattering of terrible play in relief for Philly. All together he's at a career -15.0 GSAE in the playoffs, and I'm not gonna go to the trouble to check but I'd be shocked if anyone else has a worse career number since that website started. As I've been saying, you can't trust Bob in the postseason.</div></div>
Vasilevskiy had a -5.1 in 2019 playoffs. Playoffs just aren't enough of a sample size Bob played more games this regular season than he has in the playoffs in his career. What it comes down to is Bob is 1/2 goalies that is top 5 goalie in the nhl 3/last 6 years in GSAE and you think that you're better off with two goalies that have never had a positive GSAE in the regular season and haven't been that great in the postseason either. Also you'd only be paying 6 mil of his contract. You're crazy to think Bob is not a huge upgrade.

Clearing Cap and Trying to Stay in the Hunt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kalopsia</b></div><div>Here are Bob's four best regular seasons:
2012-13: Bob has a .932 SV% and wins the Vezina, but the Jackets miss the playoffs.
2013-14: Bob has a .923 SV% and comes in 8th in Vezina voting. In the playoffs, he has a .908 SV% as the Jackets lose 4-2 to the Pens in the first round. In the elimination game he has an .857 SV% as the Jackets lose 4-3.
2016-17: Bob has a .931 SV% and wins the Vezina. In the playoffs, he has an .882 SV% as the Jackets lose 4-1 to the Pens in the first round. In the first elimination game, he has an .871 SV% but the Jackets manage to win 5-4. The next elimination game he has an .844 SV% and the Jackets lose 5-2.
2017-18: Bob has a .921 SV% and comes in 8th in Vezina voting. In the playoffs, he has a .900 SV% as the Jackets lose 4-2 to the Caps in the first round. In the elimination game he has an .815 SV% as the Jackets lose 6-3. (As a Caps fan, Bob's collapse after their OTL in game 3 was a huge reason the Caps won that series)
This is the problem with Bob. Even when he's good in the regular season he can **** the bed in the playoffs, and he seems to particularly struggle when the pressure is at his highest. His overall record in elimination games is 2-6 with an .879 SV%. Both wins were followed by a loss the next game with a sub-.900 SV%. Even when he's playing well it's just impossible to trust him.
If Bob was the only option, I'd take the Eller+Vanecek for Bob (50% retained)+Bennett deal. Fortunately there seem to be a lot of alternatives out there without his playoff baggage, and I'd hope the Caps do their due diligence on those guys first.</div></div>
Save percentage doesn’t take in to account shot quality and therefore does not show how the goalie would play independent of the defense in front of him. When looking at t goals saved above expected his best years are 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2021-22. Each of those years he saved over 20 goals above expected being ranked in the top 4 of the league. This was his best year in the playoffs. Stop using out of date metrics lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kalopsia</b></div><div>Those are literally the only two series he's won. He posted a .906 against the Caps and it happened to be just enough to out-duel one of the worst goalie tandems in the league, and he had one legitimately good series against Tampa. His overall record in playoff series where he entered as the starter is 2-7. I'm not usually one to buy into "good/bad in the playoffs" narratives, but Bob's got a big enough sample size for me to consider it a major risk factor.</div></div>
He was ranked 4th in goals saved above expected per 60 during playoffs this year min 5 games played. He was ranked 4th in total goals saved above expected per 60 during the regular season. He's a 2 time vezina winner. You said it yourself that the caps have one of the worst tandems, so this solves that issue. He also played well against Tampa this year too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>LMAO So Seattle should aspire to use ample draft currency and cap space to acquire what they have in spades already? That's your position?? Ridiculous! Seattle would be lucky to even get a 5th Rounder back if they flipped him again at the deadline, with retention!! Yet another ACGM that thinks the teams with cap room and draft picks should be "honored" to sacrifice those assets to allow cap strapped teams to fill out their roster under the cap.</div></div>
They're getting a pick back a round later and a veteran presence for their team that plays a physical game. What are you talking about sacrificing ample draft currency? It's a 1 late round difference (Seattle is early, Florida is late), but I'd change it to swapping 6ths if that's better. Patric Hornqvist would probably be Seattle's 5th best forward if they add him

The only Caps fans in the comments are ClockReads2113 and qc14, who both said no pretty emphatically. Rolfadinho, a Panthers fan, said the Panthers would do it (no surprise there since it's way in the Panthers' favor). Every other comment is either OP defending his own trade or you defending it yourself. No Caps or neutral fan besides the OP said the Caps would do that trade, and you've now had three Caps fans say it's not even close.
If you want to talk about something like Vanecek and Eller for Bob at 50% and Bennett, that's something the Caps might consider, but I still think Bob's long history of ****ting the bed in the playoffs makes him a bad fit. A .901 SV% over 51 playoff games is a serious problem.</div></div>
You don't have to be rude. I changed to add Bennett. Bob had good stats this year in the playoffs, and beat you guys with a team in front of him that couldn't score a power play goal.He also was the last goalie to win a series against Tampa in a sweep. There's good and bad in his playoff history.

A bunch of people in the caps thread said that Bob trade was pretty realistic. Even if we can't get a better pick for Hornqvist, we can get that off our books somehow. This Bob trade is the most realistic option that I've seen.

Florida doesn't have a first in the next 3 drafts so unless you want to wait until 2025 for that pick then maybe

FLA is not giving away Bob with that much retained. Bob is still a top 5 goalie, 4th in the league in Goal Saved above expected. The Panthers won't add a first to that deal.

What is Mason Appleton gonna go for
My thought is Panthers would like to clear cap to go after a player with a large cap hit like a Chychrun. You give Frank Vatrano up and a 5th to get Mason Appleton who can possibly play a depth role in the playoffs like Vatrano, but with a lower cap hit. I do not know if this is enough to get Appleton, but Vatrano and Appleton put up comparable numbers last year. If I'm Seattle I take this deal because they should not care about this year's cap, and they need more picks.

I could more likely see the panthers giving up the first, then giving up Knight. Bobrovsky is 33, and the Panthers are not going to sacrifice giving away a top goaltending prospect for a defenseman that might not be on a top pair. I think that's too heavy of a price tag. Knight is having a down year, but Chychrun is having even more of a down year. Knight is a rookie, while Chychrun should be in his prime.
