I disagree. Guys a lock for 60+ points. Think Beakers obviously more valuable but there’s a reason the 2nds going with it.
Assume that the Canes aren’t in playoff position at the deadline... Beaker is most likely moving.
Getting a guaranteed, though slightly overpaid forward, on a team that doesn’t want to and shouldn’t rebuild does make some sense.

Keep in mind this is from Philadelphia’s perspective... I’m putting stuff I think they would do with reasonable value. It may not be enough, but I don’t think they are outlandish ideas. Philly won’t take a d man with term due to expansions
and I see no scenario where they move cost controlled dmen in Sanheim and Myers. Myers has 3 more years of RFA and if you watched him at all in playoffs, the guys a stud. 6’6” physical and potentially only trailing ghost in his skating ability. And Sanny is up next year and should get 4 mill less than a guy like Pietro and has a better chance of living up to the full contract. Everything I read from LeBrun etc says that the Laine deal was discussed starting here. Probably won’t happen anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07 </b></div><div>I get that the Canes have a history but the history is history. Tom D spends money and wants to win. We were one of the few that didn’t cut operations budget.
We weren’t a sexy option I agree. We have improved facilities, especially practice facility (like 100 times better). Most importantly we are on the upswing finally. We’ll attract more guys as we continue our climb up the rankings.
We are committed to a stronger defense. This team is heavily involved in analytics. Analytically defenders’ production is much easier to predict and has less fluctuations. Goalies on the other hand have very little predictability and higher cost. We get more value and production out of a strong defense supporting a pair of middle of the road goalies than one great goalie supporting a middle of the road defense.</div></div>
All fair analysis... just don’t know how the cookie will crumble. With Philly, NYI, Wash, and Pittsburgh and NYR and CBJ in the convo... I’m just cautious about losing the asset for nothing from their perspective.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>'Officially' - its pretty well known that PhIlly wants to unload that contract for younger better players coming up, and no team has been takers. Pretty easy to conclude he doesnt have value at that cap hit.</div></div>
Just because he hasn’t moved doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any value. It means the Flyers feel the value is higher. If or when he comes out with his fixed knees (which happened during the layoff), the value is higher. 4.25 for 3 years is hardly some massive block. He’s the scape goat because JvR isn’t getting any action at 7 mill.

I really don’t think the Carolina trade is that far off either. An organization like Carolina that often doesn’t want to spend up to the limit is probably going to consider something like this. The destination isn’t a sexy one, so getting a valuable top 6 guy (even if he’s a mill or two overpaid) for a guy who could potentially walk isn’t out of the realm of possibilities. Plus they have north of 4 mil locked up to 4 other D Men long term and two young guys in the pipe that are probably ready. Too 6 is the bigger need since the team survived and thrived with Beaker injured.
As far as the Laine deal, I saw the Athletic and reputable sources with that info. Think the hesitancy is probably Philly trying to avoid Patty or Frost.

Think the Flyers would do that. Might be a hair low. Think they’d include a Laughton type or a B type prospect if asked. Think they’d try to get you to take JVR and his hit as well.

Flyers trade your thoughts
Flyers would pass on this offer in my opinion. I get the Nolan Patrick doesn’t have the value he once had, but no one knows the true extent to his medical condition. The Flyers aren’t going to bail on the potential of a #2 overall pick who has flashed in his two prior seasons unless it’s for a big piece. Have a prime example of what happens when you wait for a center to develop in Coots.

Big Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>That’s not realistic that’s wishful thinking the Avs aren’t doing that trade ever.</div></div>
Eichel won’t get moved in the first place. Because this is the value. It’s the first trade where it’s not one prospect, a cap dump and a first or two. Eichel’s a franchise player. What do you think a fair offer is? And A and A- prospect and two firsts and to tradable pieces for what will be a rebuild team isn’t terrible.

First Eichel trade I’ve seen that makes sense and sending realistic value. And people drag it. Lol.

I mean... I guess we will see. GMs (like Ottawa) just bought out a guy when they were already below the cap floor for this reason. And frankly, JVR cap is 2 mill over, not like the Loui, Lucci, Boychuk type deals. Rebuilds aren’t usually very quick and you can use this type of deal to get value on both ends. Maybe it won’t happen, but I’d be shocked if somebody doesn’t bite with no retention. I actually would prefer they don’t trade Ghost. I’d prefer they play him and use him properly.

Checking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>But why would they bring on players like that who are "win now" guys? The Kings don't need the help now. It could actually be detrimental to the rebuild since it could potentially move them out of the league basement and move them out of the top 5 OA in the 2021 draft. I could see the Kings doing it if they got a young prospect or high round draft pick in exchange for taking on the additional cap hit, but in this case they're paying a 4th round pick for players that, at best they don't need, and at worst will actually be detrimental to their future.</div></div>
They make the deal now because they have the space and they get the assets. If ghost reestablishes, the contract is fine. But more so, the team has the capability to flip those guys and get more assets, on a team without many tradable assets. JVR looks bad now because of the salary. He doesn’t look bad next year when there are 2 years left and the Kong’s (or another team can eat half their salary). What’s a 25 goal scorer yet you at the deadline that’s signed for 2 years and 3.5 million. A lot.

He’s in a log jam in a deep roster. He reminds me a lot of Scott Laughton when he was younger. Good two way game and can play center. Needs an opening and I think he will become a very solid two way guy in the bottom 6 somewhere. Just probably not Philly.

Planning The Future Discussion
I get the logic for sure in terms of lack of protection, but I don’t think you can punt a move now considering you want to maximize the window. Thinking only a Pietrain move makes sense because youre saving assets in how you acquire the player. Any scenario where you add to the defense is going to create a picks and prospects deal to Seattle to not touch them.

You can always bridge some of those guys. Thought behind it is rebuilds generally require more picks, generally higher than 4ths. Maybe the Kings aren't right, maybe the Sens, Wings, or Devils then.

From a Flyers fan perspective... most even trade I’ve seen in months. And one that makes sense for both sides, given Vegas being linked to Pietrain. Very well done.

I frankly still don’t think it’s enough to get him moved in division. Voraceks cap hit going the other way is going to drive the price up.

Think this is the most realistic option I’ve seen from another Flyers fan on here. Think this is about the best we could do. I personally prefer Kadri since the cap hit is lower though. Not sure what that price tag is

Fair point on the Brodie value. Rubtsov was a borderline first rounder. Better pick or another prospect may be needed. Idea was to get Brodie as the Ghost replacement without dumping one of the big 3 prospects.

My Dream Scenario
So let me get this straight, of all the changes I built in here, you're bothered by:
1) Being concerned over Lindblom getting moved on his offwing to accommodate the addition of 3 forwards so that they can play where they're comfortable is laughable.
2) Hockey isn't a 1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line sport. Every coach plays matchups and if you want to alleviate the burden on Patrick, playing him with two offensively gifted wingers is a good way to do it. Switch the line order. It doesn't matter in the slightest.
3) As far as Radcliffe goes, if you watch him in juniors, the upside he brings currently in a 6'5" frame is far greater than anything Raffl can contribute. Maybe he does go to the minors, but I'd rather have the guys that can make a greater potential impact considering all other moves are to finish a rebuild
