(MTL/COL) - Lehkonen for Barron and 2024 2nd round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>So Sakic decided to overpay on Lehkonen, it was the (shoot me for saying this) Avs Coleman move. Sakic is obviously confident that Makar, Toews, Byram and Girard are the Avs top 4 for the foreseeable future and he could over spend. Is he going to be worth the over spend, we shall see.</div></div>
He is worth it for sure he's always in the right places, very smart both with and without the puck, is great defensively and is always an SHG Threat. He will be frustrating to watch though because while he scores around 12 goals a year, I always joked that if he could learn to either Hit the net or Miss the goalie he would win the rocket (reminder that's a joke), he's a great player and we're gonna miss him.

I know Dvorak isn't getting either of those 2 but at the same time he's also right that Montreal doesn't really need LD prospects as 4 of Montreals top Prospects are LD in Norlinder Guhle Harris and Struble (even though I'm not the biggest fan of Struble) plus we still have Romanov on our Roster so if there was a prospect of a similar calibre but at a different position it would be a deal Montreal would likely be more interested in.

If Lehky was a rental that would be the price he'd probably fetch however, he is an RFA this season so the price should be higher is that a first, probably not unless there is a bidding war, but a 2nd and 4th or something along those lines would be the expected return as he is technically not a rental.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aecliptic</b></div><div>What is Chiarot worth? With the expansion draft coming up, the Habs have some decisions to make on defense since they can protect 3 of Weber, Petry, Chiarot and Edmundson. The crazy thing here is Weber is the only one of the 4 that doesnt have a NMC/NTC, so essentially theyd have to get Chiarot's approval to get a trade. Of course, theres always the possibility MTL tries to get out from under Weber's AAV and exposes him to Seattle.</div></div>
before the playoffs, I would have been fine with the 3rd but this run has probably made it a 3rd and a 5th or 2nd IMO

tdl deals within the North
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>I understand what you're saying, but that's this season, and you have to admit, he isn't the player he was 2 seasons ago at age 29, when he deserved that contact.
Byron has two more seasons left on this contract, at ages 32 and 33, which doesn;t sound horrible, but he's already in a steep decline at 31.
It's rough watching our favourite players decline. Alfredsson was a point per game player, yet his final four seasons were well below his standards, and he knew when to quit. He could have played a few more seasons, padded his totals a bit more, but he called it, and Byron is fast approaching that moment. Maybe not this season, but soon.</div></div>
Yeah I agree he isn't the same but that win percentage difference is actually throughout his full-time in Montreal.

tdl deals within the North
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>I understand there is occasionally some truculence here on this site, but you have to admit, we see the same tired and unlikely trades over and over, that we just stop posting "pass". Then we see someone else with the same trade stating they saw someone else post it and no one disagreed.
Then there's the fans that wants another teams good player, and is willing to give 6 crap players for him. What a bargain!!
As for your, "Flames can have Kerfoot, Mikhey or Dermott but you'd just laugh at that", there's a reason they laugh, so why even suggest it?
Hab fans have been trying to trade Byron to Ottawa for I don't know how long now, not because he's a good fit in Ottawa, but because they don't want him, like Kerfoot, Mikheyev, or Dermott in Toronto, and before that Komarov, among others, and they figure, Byron was born in Ottawa, they suck, trade him there. We've had a run on Pettersson trades to Ottawa recently. Two months ago when Ottawa needed a LD, we wondered about Pettersson, but he wasn't available according to them, but now that the Sens don't need him, suddenly Pittsburg fans can't stop trying to send Pettersson to Ottawa, again and again. This causes repeated discussions, then arguments, and it becomes nonsense.
My advice, unsolicited, is to think about the other team before you think about your own. Ask yourself, who truly needs Kerfoot, I mean truly needs him, and start there.</div></div>
I get annoyed at the Byron trades as well but from a Montreal standpoint because Montreal is a better team with Byron than Without Him maybe not on paper but in practice as Montreal's winning percentage decreases by roughly 20 percent when byron isn't in the lineup

My personal favourite is when someone does a Mantha trade with Caufield involved as most likely Montreal would only trade for Mantha to add a Big winger to play on the opposite wing of Caufield as we have done with Drouin and Anderson.

Most of Montreal's Best Prospects are actually Defensemen, We have Struble, Harris, Norlinder, and Guhle all projected to be at least NHL Defensemen at Left Defense only. Now I'm not saying them for Kopitar but with all of them playing a different style of game I'm sure the kings would have interest in at least one.

Dobber rates players more so on their fantasy potential than what skills they have and how they translate to the NHL so of course Valimaki who is more of an offensive defenseman than Romanov who played a shutdown role in Russia and will likely play the same way in the NHL.

What IF Hubby Cost
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>:tearsofjoy Romanov is worth more than Huberdeau? You Habs fans are solid gold when it comes to the comedic gems that you throw around. Guy who ranked 58th in the league in TOI for forwards puts up 1.13 points per game, and tied for 10th in the league in points, but yeah, you're right, it's just garbage points. The year before that? 52nd in TOI, and tied for 12th in scoring. But yeah, he's a scrub. The bleu, blanc et rouge tinge in your eyes must make it tough to see much...
Also, wasn't Sandin the top dman last year?</div></div>
Romanov isn't worth more than Hoffman, yet (i hope), I'm not sure how to make a comment about the rest of that first paragraph but you are right about how good Hoffman is at least Offensively, I'm personally not a fan of His Defense but he's not a bad player. Finally, Romanov won top defenseman in the 2019 WJC because of the points he put up but in the 2020 tournament he played his more regular style of a shutdown defender and was considered the 2nd best in the tournament by the media but that could have been influenced by his previous year's performance but was at least top 2 in back to back years

Who is Better
For what their current teams need both are equally as valuable. In trades, Petry definitely has more Value as a puck-moving Right Defender over Muzzin as a shutdown Left Defender. Muzzin is more consistent, as he plays well as long as his partner isn't a defensive liability while Petry seems to struggle to find a partner he has chemistry with but when he has the right partner I personally find what Petry brings to be more valuable so I'd lean towards Petry over Muzzin but Muzzin is definitely a safer pick.

2. Byron and Armia were 4th and 5th most used forwards (TOI/GP) at 4v5 last year, suggesting that they weren't critical to the PK effort even when healthy.
3. The top-3 most used MTL forwards played nearly the full compliment of games: 71, 70 and 63, respectively, indicating that the PK was largely intact throughout the season.
4. Khaira's 2.43 GA/60 is significantly better than any of MTL's 5 PK regulars, who range from 6.89 to 8.88 GA/60.
5. Among forwards who played 90+ minutes at 4v5, Khaira's GA/60 ranked 1st in the entire league.
6. That wasn't fluke either, as evidenced by his ranking in other metrics like CA/60 (19th), FA/60 (12th), SA/60 (6th), xGA/60 (12th) and HDCA/60 (7th) among 104 forwards.
MTL's PK was below average and Khaira would be an immediate upgrade. You might dislike the trade for any number of reasons, but your PK excuse is completely illegitimate.</div></div>
First off they were technically 3rd and 4th as Thompson was traded at the deadline, and a lot of penalty killing woes happened early in the season and they tightened up after that they had 21 PP goals against by the end of November and were 8th in the league the rest of the season.

No, but Montreal was also without Byron and Armia who are 2 of our best Penalty killers were injured for decent durations of the season, and we added more size this offseason and a few more players who can kill penalties. if you go to the playoffs and look at the GA/60 Montreal was 9th overall but other teams played substantially more and some played less so if you look only at the 1st round they were 7th and better once they figured out the 2nd units Center

I know you don't mean the Trade to MTL is actually to Montreal but I can't help but laugh as the habs are probably one of the worst teams to use as an example for teams that need Penalty Killers as I believe only 3 Forwards on the team don't kill penalties or haven't at any experience as a penalty killer before
