<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SJSF</b></div><div>If Boston is moving Swayman, Mercer is the piece I want coming back.
That's also an underpay for him. It'll be north of 6 IMO.</div></div>
I’d turn down Mercer and the 2024 first for Swayman without giving it a second thought. The Bruins aren’t trading him.

Dickinson would be great, but agree with Shaners…he is probably gone by our turn.
Calgary front office is a mess…not sure Fitzy is dealing with that dumpster fire.

Should NJ Claim Johansen Off Waivers
From an Avs fan, no they should not claim him. Devils fans will be begging for a buy out by the end of the season. Don’t watch a lot of the Devils but I assume they are a young, fast paced team on paper. Johanson does not fit that playing style anymore. He looked like he just couldn’t keep up on any line with the Avs and wasn’t a gritty physical player so he didn’t really fit 3rd/4th lines. Good at faceoffs but that’s about it.

Ummm no, NJ's #1 priority should be acquiring a goalie.

I'd keep colin MIller if we can only get a 4th. We can get that by serving as 3rd party retention if we want.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>That's not how that works. Markstrom has more value than Mercer, just because you like Mercer more than Holtz does not mean Calgary would ever consider adding to him. I was also very clear in my last post that Mercer has more value of the 2</div></div>
Markstrom doesn’t get Mercer. It’s just dreaming by Calgary fans.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lol ok man. I don't think Calgary is worried at all about Markstrom having a bad game every once in a while. It won't lower his value.
Calgary isn't going to lower their asking price. You want Markstrom it will cost one of Holtz or Mercer + a pick. If Mercer is coming back it may not be a 1st but if it's Holtz it will be. I can't speak for Nashville but afaik they are also in the market for a center specifically so I would imagine they also want Mercer+ instead of Holtz+</div></div>
Mercer and Holtz probably shouldn’t be viewed interchangeably. Mercer is probably closer to the Nemec, Luke tier…and would be priced as young center. He plays everywhere in lineup, PP, PK…coaches, teammates love him, never misses a game. Very valuable to team. So it would be Markstrom+ for Mercer.
Holtz will likely have higher point totals in their primes…but is offense heavy winger. Easier to replace…even possibly from within as Toffoli may extend, Clarke is developing, and eventually Gritsyuk will arrive (which honestly could be the biggest impetus to Holtz’s new availability).
Devils fans cringe when they see other fanbases say, “Mercer or Holtz”

Alright Fitzy Its Time
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I doubt that. You are not going to get Markstrom without at least 1 of Mercer or Holtz included, and probably a top 10-15 protected 1st as well. Again Calgary is more than happy having him mentor Wolf but if the price for goalies is high then Conroy would not be doing his due diligence if he didnt at least look</div></div>
The market is the market. People hear we have finally put Holtz on the table…some buyers exit, some new sellers enters. No pressure on NJD.
And any goalie minus Tanev, Hanifin, Lindholm, etc will have hard time holding his value. It already appears to be weighing on Markstrom, I don’t know if snapping at reporters is the norm for him. I’d say clock is ticking a bit louder on Calgary side.
Holtz and a pick for Saros or Markstrom retained is a reasonable trade. I’d argue doesn’t need to be 1st…but could be with $$ attached, Vanecek attached, other pieces, whatever. My gripe is with many of the offers that are twice that price…and the assumption that Fitzy has offered Mercer, Casey, 1st…and that Holtz was added for retention (or whatever the ‘insiders’ are peddling lately).

Who else is interested? even at 50% LAK can’t afford the cap
Toronto can’t afford the cap and again won’t be in the market regardless with Woll about to be back
Carolina just publicly came out and said that they aren’t in the market for a goalie
Edmonton doesn’t need a goalie with how well skinner is playing and they’re capped out.

I see GMs talking about tight caps
I see GMs selling goalies publicly through media
I see GMs saying they aren’t buying goalies
I see GMs saying they are only looking at backups

Is This Enough
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I wouldn't. No reason to trade Markstrom unless we are getting a prospect that is actually worthwhile</div></div>
Prospect would certainly need to be better if they were to retain but getting full pop off the books, bringing in a goalie to work in the rotation for less term and getting pick that could be between 15 and 20 is not a terrible scenario. As I mentioned, I agree that the Flames have no real reason to make the deal without being blown away by the return.

The Holtz Brunette connection
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DevilsFanZack13</b></div><div>I'd really like to see Holtz succeed in NJ. He just needs a legit shot in a top 6 spot. When Hughes came back from injury Holtz was on a line with Toffoli and Hughes and they looked great together. Then Lindy moved Holtz off that line for whatever reason. ATM I know Holtz isn't getting a top 6 spot with Palat-Hischier-Bratt playing amazing together and Hughes-Haula-Toffoli also doing great, but when these lines get into a slump which eventually they will, Lindy needs to try Holtz in the top 6 and not play him 5 mins like he did last night.</div></div>
Lindy has a bug up his a** on Holtz. No doubt. He is still a young player and mistakes occur. But he will only get better…and Lindy has got put him in roles to succeed.
My thinking was more this … if Fitzy has actually made him available for Markstrom and Saros…I am guessing the extension talks with Toffoli over All Star Break may have gone well. So maybe he is now open to using him as major trade chip.
(Not advocating one way or another…just getting another look of how things could play out).

It's too much and I'm a Flames fan. Besides, the rumored Markstrom deal was scrapped over cap issues so there's no way NJ could afford to pay both Marky and Hanifin without sending cap back or Calgary retaining a lot.
