True.. I could add one or two Prospects in there also. NJ Would profit from a guy like him in their lineup, and they have cap space.

Sorry Gally
Höglander would be right back in Europe or Laval at best. WIth 3.3M$ to spend, you could sign at 2.5M$/yr Duclair who'd put up numbers for the team.
Galy at VAN is also hard because of cap space over there. They don't have and would need to move someone which isn't easy right now with the number of teams over the cap;
I don't mind the Byron trade. Whether you get a 7th or a 3rd for him it's basically moving out money to make space.
**EDIT sorry - just saw it's for next year! LOL! Never mind! Höglander would still go to Laval I think LOL!**

Hughes and Hischier will be 1c and 2c for a long time. Not worried about them. The argument would be for if (a) Zajac retires; (b) NJD trades Zacha and/or Mcleod and (c) NJD sees Dawson Mercer as RW. Even then, they still have Kuokkanen, Merkley and Gritsyuk in pipeline.
NJD is in no rush. Any offer they would make today would be underwhelming to Habs fans.
</div></div>
Your view point, not mine. I'd take those +/- with a grain of salt if half of them had 'em.. It's all four of them. Shows they need experience and depth from a center like Danault.
I still stand by my trade.

Tatar Danault Gallagher out
Don't mind the Byron trade, but the Calgary one hurts. You're not getting more points, and you're increasing salary for player that aren't producing needed offense for the salary they are paid for MTL.
Gaudreau has 2 yrs of 30 or more goals, 5'09", he's good, but not enough I feel for this type of trade. Calgary would definitely jump on this since they are getting three players who produced more for the same cap hit. Might as well keep Gallagher and sign him to the same deal. He's putting up good numbers compared to Gaudreau, same size, just less passes, goal wise he's on par with Gau.
I prefer trading out Danault for a high pick then signing another center at a lower cost but with more experience with than doubling the salary for an older player that could've been replaced easily by a few UFAs right now.

Last Moves Needed What if Danault
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>You didn’t truly gain a first; literally not commenting on anything else you said. Yea you acquired a first but you gave up basically more assets than you received. You traded danault + 2nd pick + assets for a first. Danault alone could fetch a first.
You’re basically trading up here but also throwing in a top6 player. (So you lose the deal as you’re barely getting a return).
You do understand that if you’re trading danault plus a second plus assets that you’re not really trading danault for a first. Danault (by himself) for a first is danault for a first....</div></div>
Understood, but in this context right now, got lots of teams trying to trade out high salary contracts. So the teams who have space are in a position to ask for more.
Giving up a 2nd rounder when you already get a first, plus already keep a 2nd, then have three 3rd rounders isn't much when you have 3-4 team also looking for cap dump. This move is solely for the purpose of cap space and ensure you get something good in return. NJ may also not want to give up their 1st. They may give up 2nd rounder instead where I'd switch the 2 for a 3rd on MTL side.
It's all about context right now. Too many teams never thought of a pandemic hitting us and stopping the cap. They all planned for higher cap and singed deals with players now being stuck with hitting the top. SO you have to fight with them to get the space.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>This is also really bad for the habs you basically got nothing in return - you gave them a second plus crap plus danault so you literally got nothing in return and went negative - worse than losing him in FA</div></div>
Getting a first pick for a player who puts out comments in the media and looks like he's not happy in MTL since he wants first line when he's clearly a 2nd or 3rd is not nothing. In my scenario here you get Brassard who's not a first liner anymore but his also ok with playing on the 2nd or 3rd. He's not expensive and will provide mentorship to the likes of Suzuki and KK. Even if he's moved down to the fourth line, he'll still play without bad mouthing the coaches. He's 33, last contract probably so he knows.
Brassard still got 32 pts, even if he's in the negatives he's not -10 or more. He's -2 which is acceptable at that rate of pay in the NHL for the points he manages to put up.
We give up a 2nd and 4th, but have a 2nd rounder and 3 3rd rounders.. So we don't really lose much. The extra prospects are to give NJ some depth if they need it down the road. Potential 4th liners types.
Nothing is worse than losing someone for nothing.. You're saying we should lose him for nothing compared to a first pick? Really????

Could but you also take the chance of MTL trading him out. They need the help at center. All they have at center are players in the minuses, they need more experience which Danault would bring in this year, and next couple after.

Last Moves Needed What if Danault
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil1122</b></div><div>Devils don't need another center</div></div>
I would go against that statement. Devils need a good center to replace Zajac next year, might as well get him in now and extend him right off the bat. Plus Danault is great at puck drop. He gets the puck at over 55-54% of the time for the past two seasons. Over 50% for the past 4 seasons. Plus he puts up decent numbers, and is in the + for the past 4 seasons (5, 0 17 and 18).
NJ Have Hisher (-16, 36pts); Zajac (-12, 25pts); Zacha (-12, 32pts); Hughes (-26, 21pts) and Mcleod (+4 but 2pts/12 games..) compared to Danault (+18, 47pts).
Hughes is in his first yr at NHL, so he's not ready to take on the 1st line right now;
Hisher, young guy but 7M$ cap hit so he'll need the experience from a good centerman like Danault;
Zacha, third centerman at best right now better to move him the fourth; and
McLeod.. Not NHL ready he's up and down from NJ.
Get someone like Danault in the mix for three to four years and you have yourself a very good top three centermen lineup. First two years (this and next), Danault can take top or second line which is what he wants. If Hughes doesn't move up he can take his time in development on the third for an extra year.
Only reason I would trade Danault out is the salary aspect and cap space MTL faces right now, and would need to bring in another winger. We have too many centers that can take on the top 3 roles now (if we would Sign Brassard to mentor KK and Suzuki since he's ok with being a third liner).
Else I'd keep him.

That being said, any injury will just result in that person likely going on LTIR and someone being called up with the cap space freed up by that. I don't really see a problem with it.</div></div>
To put a player on LTIR, they have to be out for 24 days and 10 NHL games. You can't do that every time someone gets a bad hit and needs one to three games off. This doesn't help them really. When you get Matthews out for let's says 5 games.. you can't put him on LTIR, so you can't use the space.
It's getting complicated there. Like now in Mtl, Bergevin needs to move someone over 2M$ to get the cap space needed.
GMs need to better play their hand since no other team would have the cap space to take in big contracts since either they have no money to pay (Ottawa) or are also worrued about incoming money.

I think Engvall would go elsewhere. Habs are already over Cap, so they would also look to move out money, not bring more in. But I understand what you're trying to do so, yep would meet the price to move him, just the wrong team.to play with.
TO will also need to move more, they can't have anyone injured with that cap space. 40M$ just on the first two lines .. Dubas painted them into a corner.

Man, I think Toronto need to move more. With a 20 man roster, this gives them 0 space for anyone to go down with an injury. They'll need to sacrifice enough to be able to get to at least to a 22 man roster min, with 300K$ of cap space. And with the available players out there, many team might sign a UFA before trading up for a high salary.
It's getting bad in TO!

Hey look at this.. You just made the Troll list. I don't care how YOU value players or think a trade is done or not, you have your opinions and that's it. Now be gone, move on if you can't respect people or what they post on these sites. It's a F-A-N-T-A-S-Y GM role. You have no clue how players are viewed by other GMs just like us. Can't be respectfull, move to the next post.
"B"obby "R"yan .. Next time you want to write a 20 letter "memoir" to a player you respect, please.. Capitalize his name out of respect for the player. Oh and in case you have no clue what a "memoir" is Check below, I added a definition for you.. You probably were thinking "homage" but you know.. Brain cells..
Memoir:
1. a record of events written by a person having intimate knowledge of them and based on personal observation.
2. Usually memoirs.
- an account of one's personal life and experiences; autobiography.
- the published record of the proceedings of a group or organization, as of a learned society.
3. a biography or biographical sketch.

Tampa are in real trouble with the cap right now. I'm shocked no one tried to offer sheet Sergashev of Cirelli yet. I don't see how they would be able to match.</div></div>
Understood, but Stamkos COULD move his clause. It's not a slap in the face, but getting the cup without him is not the best thing for a player's ego. Regardless of the player. So if Brisebois can convince him to move on this, MTL may or may not be on his list, but this is a "What if.." like all the Armchair GM teams. Gotta roll with it and think it could be if the chips fall where they need to.

I know. But Csick is still making points in his responses, I do see his player with term point. Hence why we'd probably have to give up a few other prospects in his dealing. But yeah, Byron in Ottawa would make sense for their team. Hometown player, not a high value contract, great leader, always plays hard and is great when down a man which would help their team. He'd be great leading the new kids coming in, and give Melnik a chance to redeem himself a bit getting the home kid back.

Always depends on the team you deal with. NASH may not want to give up their first rounder, we need the cap space, and I don't see many other teams looking for his type of play right now. MIN would've been a good destination, but they signed lots of players over the past few days. If Danault was a true first line center, he'd go for a first pick, but really, he's a 2nd centerman at best. Don't over value him also, especially from the eyes of the other GMs.

I like Duclair. Could potentially cost less because of the attitude he seems to carry with him. Which is good for Bergevin if he wants to sign him and get him under Weber's leadership. I'd hope for a contract around 2M$ for a year or two. But in today's league.. who knows..
