Tatar and Hoffman are both 1 year deals, along with Russell. That's $9.25M. +$2.2M for Nurse, less than $1M for either Samorukov or Broberg to replace Russell. Less than $1M for Holloway to replace Hoffman. Bennson moves up to top 9 and replaced with freeagent under $1M leaving +$4M of savings to put towards a Puljujarvi raise not to mention the $1.4M cap space still available before any moves. This should leave more than enough to upgrade the 3LW with a vetren on a cheap 1 year deal if Bennson isn't ready.
But like the title says. I don't like this.

Like the title says, I don't like this. Built a team around some trade and signing suggestions various radio hockey guys have thrown out there over the last few weeks.

Patrick had migraine issues. Reports is it's under control. still major risk. last full season he was looking like he was finding his way. He is also very good at faceoffs.
This was a fun Jason Strudwick trade suggestion from.a.few weeks ago. Wanted to see what it would look like.

I think that instead of Wennberg, Edmonton should be looking at Glendenning or Ryan. They need a right shooting centre for faceoffs. They would be cheaper, and allow for a better mix in the bottom six.</div></div>
Wennberg gives rhe Oilers a chance of having a 3rd line instead of 2 4th lines again. Maybe with the right wingers Ryan can give you a year of 3C if you squint hard enough but Glendening is a 12-14F.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VGKNation702</b></div><div>Lol we’re not giving up Smith for nothing; and especially not retaining a DOLLAR. Come on…</div></div>
as mentioned in another comment. Vagas seems to be in on every big name every year and keep pushing themselves up against the cap. 10 times this year they couldn't dress a full line-up because of thier cap issues. Smith is in the final year of his deal and could/should be expendable because of his cap hit.
Wishful thinking they retain salary but Bennson isn't nothing. He is a prospect that is a point per game player in the AHL and NHL ready for bottom 6 at what will be slightly above league average. The type of player sent back in a cap dump trade. Smith isn't a cap dump on a team with room but in Vagas he is over paid.

It doesn't help Tampa as they are more than $5M over the cap next year with 12F 5D and 2G signed and no Young players they can send down without risking waivers.
It could work for some other teams, I'm not going through every team, but that still leaves the matter of still paying out the $8.25M owed to Klefbom. After the last year I'm not sure there the apatite for that.

again correct me if I'm wrong but adding Klefbom and placing him on LTIR doesn't mean Tampa gets to spend $85.2M on dressed players plus all their LTIR players. They need to get right up to the cap including LTIR for openning night roster then place on player on LTIR. They can then go over by that amount. If they are over the cap before LTIR is used the relief you recieve is simply the amount you are over not the full amount of the player's cap hit. That's why the Oilers were still up against the cap all least year dispite Klefbom being on LTIR

You dont think Tampa would like to buy a guaranteed LTIR contract off Seattle so they can use it to keep their team depth together. They could get a good asset for that</div></div>
someone correct me if I'm wrong but this isn't how LTIR works. Tampa, if trading for Klefbom, can go over the cap the amount of his AAV but Klefbom's AAV is counted in that amount. So a team in Tampa's position doesn't actually benifit from this considering they are already over the cap for next year. Sure if he was LTIR all year and then ready for playoffs it would work but that isn't what is happening.

I didn't know this rule. I thought I read through them all. Thank-you.
I wonder what it would take in a 3 way trade.
Edmonton retains 50% trade to Seattle.
Seattle retains 50% of remaining salary tradingbto 3rd team to buy out. Edmonton eats $1M a year while Seattle and 3rd team eat $500K each a year. Creative trade but little risk for Settle and team 3.

There are reports that people close to Klefbom are saying he is closernto retirement than playing again. This thought also lends credibility to why Edmonton seems to be so interested in Keith.
Seattle doesn't need LTIR help and I don't believe Klefbom's salary was covered by insurance for this injury, sorry I can't find the source it was a guest on either Oilers now or TSN 1260 Edmonton. If that is true that's a pretty expensive risk for Seattle to be taking. I think the payment os more than enough for eating $1M cap space.

Offseason Cap space check-in
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>I'm the same guy you just asked in the other thread and stand by what I said. Every Oilers fans post of the Kieth trade is terrible for the hawks. Always benefit to the oilers in cap space and a 2nd pair dman but nothing for the hawks, other than caleb jones I guess, who you guys will lose to Seattle if we don't take him anyways</div></div>
Jones very likely will be lost to expansion but a Keith trade before expansion causes some issues for the Oilers as well. Larsson hasn't signed yet and if Keith is traded for Keith wpuld be protected leaving a Larsson signing until after expansion.
I wouldn't make a deal for Keith at full AAV simply because I think you can find an adequate 2LD option for much less and the Oilers need to improve in other areas.
I keep coming back to the Keith trade because Holland loves old guys and the people talking about it in Edmonton are pretty plugged in so I see it as a foregone conclusion. I personally think Seattle would be a better landing spot for him. Either The Hawks leave him exposed and Seattle takes him or after expansion Seattle has the young player(s) needed for the trade without the need for Chicago to take back a bad contract. Hell.they may even have Jones to offer.

In the deal above the oilers get cap flexibility and a 2nd pair dman. What do the hawks get? nothing</div></div>
I would buy out Koskinen and eat the $1.5M×2 before giving up a 2nd. If Chicago retained 20-25%,$1.1-$1.4M I would consider but Edmonton can't afford Keith's full AAV. too much risk for 2 years remaining.
If Oilers do make a deal I don't expect to like it though.

Oiler fan here. From a Chicago point of veiw what do you see an Oiler deal for Keith looks like? is there any rumors out there in Chicago. I know what we here in Edmonton as rumors but of course those are deals that benifit the Oilers maybe more so than Chicago.

fair enough. My thinkingbis that over a full season odds are the Oil will use 7-8 defenceman due to injury. I would prefer not to have to go to Samorukov or Broberg right away. Come the new year maybe they are both ready but until then I'm content "wasting" the $250K on defence insurance. If I didn't sign Benn I would have just saved the money for the deadline.

Potentially wasting $250K. The rest can be burried in the AHL. I'd be fine with that to have a veteran for call up. Or the extra D is picked up on waivers and nothing lost.
