Sprong playing 4th line minutes isn't helping his development. Rowney being available to take draws and PK gives the team options. If the one weakness at forward is #12 the team is in really good shape.

At most Pitt would only have Trouba for 3 years not sure that he's worth Maatta for that.</i></div></div>
How much longer is the Crosby-Malkin window open though? Getting 2-3 years of Trouba matches up with it pretty well (Hornqvist is also a UFA too).

Sign me up! If Honka can push his way into the lineup then you can possibly run Dumolin - Honka as the middle pair and Daley - Schultz as the new offensive zone 3rd pair.

Maatta- 180GP 58points at a .32 points per game

If you are into advance stats Hamilton has much better ones.
Last 5 years:
Elliott- 192 games: .922sv% 2.09 GAA
Fleury- 297 games: .917sv% 2.36 GAA
Why would the flames do this? Are people that caught up in Elliott's bad start?
Also Calgary would be adding 41.73 mil total to they pay roll over these contracts while pens only add 31.25 mil. this is a god awful deal for the flames and a steal for the pens.</i></div></div>
That's all situations. Even strength it's .929 for Elliott and .926 for Fleury (2012/13 through 2015/16 so I'm not even including Elliott's poor start this year). On the PK they're still similar with Fleury at .900 sv% to Elliot's .895. Fleury has almost 60% more 4v5 TOI than Elliott to boot.
They are not drastically different from each other in terms of performance. But Fleury has established that he can be a team's #1 goalie and sustain those numbers. This is Elliott's chance to do so and he hasn't capitalized on it yet.
That total payroll figure doesn't account for the difference in term. And cost certainty has its own appeal to certain teams. Not saying the Flames are one; just that this isn't a complete negative the way you're portraying it. Also, does anyone actually think about contracts in those terms? Teams will be paying that money to somebody. Better question is does their performance merit being paid that amount.

And the fact Jarry is thrown in?? No value to that?</i></div></div>
In all honesty swapping the G prospects is more about keeping the two clubs' pipelines flowing. The Flames need a prospect who'll be ready sooner rather than later. Jarry's trajectory has always been to take over for Flower. No reason to change that now. The Penguins don't need another young stud goalie for the foreseeable future. So they'll take the younger guy from Calgary who'd otherwise clog up their AHL net (which now belongs to Jarry).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blynasty</b></div><div><i>This would be the only scenario that would make sense to me. I don't think the Penguins are looking to move Maatta just for another RHD. Flames get a goalie to build around (Elliot wasn't that guy) and a veteran defenseman that can play pretty much anywhere with anyone. Pouliot is there as a cheap player who shows promise and needs a shot, which the Penguins aren't really built to allow for. I think this trade makes much more sense for both sides than the Maatta trades being thrown around on here.</i></div></div>
That veteran Defenseman is a pending UFA. And on the PIT side, they now have 4 defenseman in need of protection from the Expansion Draft (Letang, Maatta, Hamilton, and Dumolin). Which means now instead of protecting 7F/3D they're limited to 8 skaters. With 4 being defenseman, that means they're protecting Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, and Hornqvist. A barren collection of LWs is going to be even thinner next year if/when Vegas takes Hagelin.

In 2017-18 they don't. Cullen likely retires. Will they resign Bonino to a big payday? If not that's both bottom 6 centers needing replacement. And the internal pool of candidates is Sundqvist, Fehr, and maybe Guentzel.
I think this is a big overpayment for Fleury. A roster player, a good prospect, salary relief, and a 1st? Pens would be happy with a mid-round pick with all those other pieces still in place.

Problem is OTT has an internal budget. No way they eat dead money on Anderson for 2 years. More likely it's the Pens that retain salary on Fleury to make the salary output the same for OTT.

Kucherov Resigned + Bishop trade
Why on Earth would Dallas make that trade? They already have too much money tied up in frequently injured goalies. And giving up Honka is insane. They don't need a Vezina caliber (when healthy) player. If they can dump salary and get league average goaltending they'd be in a much better place. And they'd still have one of their best remaining prospects in house.

Thoughts on these trades?
And from the Rangers perspective what exactly are they getting out of that deal? A backup goalie they don't need, a defenseman with an expiring contract, and a 1st? Not appealing to them.
Hunwick for Fehr is at least interesting. Although I don't see him improving the Penguins. Maybe he's a cheaper Ian Cole.

I think you can sign Hudler for much less than $2m at this point. Which is part of the allure of replacing Fehr; finding a cheaper option.

LTIR use would allow the team to exceed the cap, while loaning the player to the minors would free up to a maximum of $950k in cap space</i></div></div>

Next offseason
1.) Why trade Fleury for Niemii just to bury him?
2.) Who is your Expansion Draft casualty? Sheary?
It's really hard to gauge 17-18 until we're a lot closer to the Expansion draft. If players are allowed to waive their NMCs and be selected by Vegas I'd expect Fleury would be gone at the Expansion Draft. Either from Vegas choosing him or from a trade to another team that lost a goalie to expansion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dejaystarr</b></div><div><i>Having said that, it is a lot of moving, and a few small risks. So you send down exempt players in Pouliot, Murray and Wilson. Take a pair of small(ish) risks and send down Kevin Porter and David Warsofky, neither of which are more than depth. The you take one medium risk and send down Kuhnhackl. At that point cap space should be at $505,834.
At this point you have the ability to stop having only risked Kuhnhackl, Warsofky and Porter as non-exempt and could get Dupuis on LTIR when the team had a cap hit of $72,494,166 resulting in a relief of $3,244,166.
</i></div></div>
That's only 17 skaters and 2 goalies so it's below the minimum roster size. At least I'm pretty sure the lower limit is 18 skaters and 2 goalies. So you can't waive Murray either as he's the cheapest goalie (but I see that you said you waived him but didn't in order to get to the $505,834 number).
