Every Teams Best Contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>Edmontons best contract is McDavid. TO's is Matthews. When you have a top 3 player or best player in the world. Whatever they make is money well spent.</div></div>
I was more so going for lower numbers. Yes they are both worth their contracts, but the ones I put are more so the type where I'd go "Wow you got them for that cheap?" instead of "yeah they're worth that"
Idk if that makes any sense but thats how i did it lol

I hope they go long term, but I think Dahlin would be better off going shorter

Florida trade

I think an argument could be made that Dunn has been better than Montour over the past few years, but Definitely Weegar is significantly better than all

I think it likely is a 2-3 deal, your number might be right. I figured I'd just give more cause we do have the space.

I'd think you'd have to give up much much more for Weegar, considering the season he just had

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>1.) You could likely get 7 years of Dahlin for 8 million, not 3. Yikes.
2.) Logan Brown has 1 goal, 8 assists in 30 games in the now 5 years since he was drafted. How is he getting 1.5 million dollars?
3.) Hagg and Pysyk will be in the line up</div></div>
I'm not sure Dahlin would sign that long for only 8 mil when he could get more if he waited.
For brown, I'll be honest I just put a number. 1.5 isn't horrible considering how much cap space we have.
For Hagg and Pysyk, the new signings that I made (at least for me) pushes them out of the lineup.

What I think Buffalo Should do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dca919</b></div><div>1) I question leadership coming out of that Buffalo locker room. 2) Players at age 33 and beyond start losing as skills start diminishing with age (and you can't measure how quickly the drop will be). 3) Panik doesn't have a MNTC so you could move him at the deadline in summer 2022 or Feb 2023 and still likely get a 4th or 5th round pick.</div></div>
fair, but I really don't think okposo will decline too much from where he is, he is still fitting for a bottom 6 role. Panik could probably pull that later on but so could okposo if he stays where he is

What I think Buffalo Should do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dca919</b></div><div>I don't think Yzerman would make that trade given the return. The Wings don't really need a team to retain salary and I doubt they give up a 30 year old for a 33 year old unless the return is greater than a 4th.</div></div>
The idea was that they're basically the same production and type of player that'll both be on the team for 2 years (as I think Panik will likely leave after the 2 anyway) so its basically a free 4th and getting a player who can be more of a leader.

A 33 year old ages faster than a 30 year old! Always!
Detroit doesn't want him and neither does any other team.
You can't sell something that nobody wants and expect to get paid for it, that's not the way this universe works.</div></div>
alright since you won't even contemplate another position I'll leave this alone. My final words: it's not nearly as bad as you are making it seem, they're basically the same player just a few years apart. Detroit likely loses panik in 2 years anyway and as i said okposo will probably be the same player for about 2 years. Think what you will, I clearly can't reason with you.
Another side note (I'm also a detroit fan :) )

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>That's <strong>exactly</strong> what's happening here!
A 33 year old player will always regress faster than a 30 year old one!
The deal is you trying to get rid of a player that'll be totally useless for the next two years and get one back that still will be useful and pay a pittance for the privilege.
<strong>No team on this planet will accept that deal!</strong>
If you need to dump Okposo it'll cost you a 1st and a 2nd to get rid of him.</div></div>
You do see the salary retention right? cause you seem to be missing that crucial piece. it can't be a cap dump if the cap hit stays the same for both teams.
As for regression. Okposo is still a useful forward and will likely remain so for at least 1-2 years (aka his contract length) and as previously stated his and Panik's production are roughly the same

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>If Nielsen had had 2 years left on his contract would you trade Okposo straight up for him? Nielsen is three years older than Kyle is.
It's not about the value the players have now, it's about the value they will have over the entire rest of their contract. Detroit is a rebuilding team they're not going to trade a younger player for an older one. Detroit will consider using their cap space for salary dumps but that's not free, it'll cost.</div></div>
Yes I would do that :P.
I agree that cap dumps aren't for free, thats why washington had to give up a little extra in the mantha trade so that Panik could be dumped. That's not whats happening here though the salary stays almost exactly the same. Okposo's and Panik's production are also similar.

In two years time Pánik will still be a half decent player while Okposo will be even more of a shell than he already is.
Nobody will give you anything back for Okposo, you'll have to pay for dumping his salary. It'll cost at least a 1st and a 2nd (or a bluechip prospect) for any team to take on his contract.</div></div>
I disagree, I think a deal like this could get done, maybe panik is the wrong guy but I don't think it's too far off

same cap hit for a similar player. all it is doing is changing the scenery for each player. they both have the same time left on their deals
