It has been reported that Calgary didn't want Tarasenko....In no world does Marco Scandella (lol), Tarasenko, and a pick get it done. That's stupid. It was widely known that Kyrou would have to be in it for St Louis to actually get the player. Man, if you can't get that that stupid offer was not close, then what are you even doing here?

....The whole point of this was a theoretical Tkachuk trade to St Louis that would cause a cap crunch lol. Well done.

Petry had 107 giveaways last year...and only 17 takeaways....</div></div>
The point is that you genuinely don’t understand that when teams are trying to clear cap space, they get less in return for players they trade away to make I happen?
It’s a really simple concept. The Penguins needed to clear cap space, they got little value for Marino. In this scenario, it would have been the Blues doing that to make room for another trade. This happens all the time.
Columbus just did this with Bjorkstrand and Seattle. They got very little in return for a very good player because of the cap crunch.
Quit embarrassing yourself. It’s not hard. You are just being stubborn and refusing to understand how teams lose value when trying to clear cap space.

Obviously both teams didn't pulled the trigger without talking to the player's agents to learn their expectations for a new contract. Then FLO resigned Tkachuk right away..., WHERE IS CGY CONTRACTS EXTENSIONS!.!?!
Until proven wrong, getting 2 rentals is a bad return, however skilled, for a 24 y.o. +100pts rfa power foward.
I can see the drama coming in CGY. Contract saga all season and the team forced to flip Huberdeau and Weegar at TDL while being in a playoff spot. Yuk.</div></div>
People are ignoring the contracts, ages, and the fact that Tkachuk is a much better two-way player than Tkachuk. Florida wins by a big margin if there are sitting there in a year with 25-year-old Tkachuk is signed for 7 more years and Calgary is left with a first round pick.

…you genuinely don’t understand that Marino was moved to clear cap space for Petry (who was more expensive than Matheson)? I’m sorry, man. I thought you were just pretending not to understand.
Tarasenko has requested a trade from St. Louis and is an expiring contract that is logical to move to make room for Tkachuk. How is that in any way comparable to Nylander? Lol. This is pathetic.

The Marino trade was done so the team had enough cap space for Petry. Stop pretending not to understand it. These kinds of transactions happen regularly and teams get value but not full value on players they are trading away.
Few things annoy me more than someone understanding something but pretending not to just to be irritating. Stop it.

John Marino was traded as cap dump last week and his team still got back value. That’s how it usually works in this league. What are talking about? It’s like you don’t understand that players can have value while getting dumped to clear cap space. It’s baffling.
I’ll spell it out for you: Teams get less back in return for players when they are trying to clear cap space and everyone knows it. It’s not hard to grasp.

It is. Neither of you understand the concept or leverage or the fact that cap dumps can be done while still getting value back (you have to be really stupid not to grasp that).
Last week, the Penguins traded Marino in a cap dump to New Jersey. They still got value back. It’s still a cap dump. Don’t be intentionally stupid. Pretending not to understand a basic concept doesn’t help your argument.

He doesn’t get that much as an expiring player on a team trying to clear cap space. That’s not how it works. That’s deadline value with retained salary.
Having value doesn’t mean he has high value. What kind of logic is “you think he has value so he must be worth a first?” Hilarious.

Going to have to pay someone to take McGinn. He sucks and moving money is very expensive right now. Teams are having a hard time shedding cap space.
For a Tkachuk trade with the Penguins weak system, you are going to need more than that. Pickering is the top prospect now. Add a second first, at least, without such a difficult condition to make.

If there's no move to be made, there's no move to be made. And McGinn can definitely be moved with enough stuff thrown in there (it's just a matter of determining cost/benefit). His buyout is also not insane with only a cap hit of like a million each year.
The point is that moving Pettersson without any depth behind him or a replacement is simply a bad idea unless you are making some crazy move to drastically improve in other areas.

Moving Pettersson doesn't make a ton of sense now with only unproven and young players here to replace him. There's no Mike Matheson on the team to take second pairing minutes. Dumoulin is aging and getting injured.
Unless it's done to bring in a star level player, I think the Pettersson trades should be over with. The contract they should be trying to move is McGinn. He's expendable.

By moving Pettersson, a solid second pairing LD, the Penguins are left with a bunch of unproven guys behind Dumoulin (who has had some injuries and struggles over the past two years). That's a problem and not one worth having for Girgensons.

It's been reported that Dumoulin was absolutely one of the guys being talked about on the market.
Moving players with teams capped out is hard. Returns on players is lower than you would expect/want. No team is giving you a first for Brian Dumoulin. Look at what the Penguins got from moving a younger player who was better last season (Marino). You aren't getting a ton back from a player like Dumoulin unless its at the deadline.
Malkin has played plenty of wing in his career. Crosby and Malkin together, especially pre-sullivan was very effective. The Flyers moved Giroux to the wing in his early 30's and his career had a resurgence.
