Montreal in the mix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canuckel_head</b></div><div>I mean, agreed that players make too much, then you look at the NBA and your brain explodes. Lowry just signed a deal to make 30mil a year. Ridiculous. McDavid is likely worth more. I mean, is Marner really worth almost 11mil? NOPE. Point contract price is probably really accurate. I see a lot more players getting big money without looking at the team dynamic and impacts on getting a Stanley Cup. I think McDavid is worth his contract, but it holds the Oilers back from having a more rounded team (...also the location and especially management impact that too).</div></div>
It makes some sense in other sports, as one player can have a much larger impact. That's just not the case in hockey. If you have a $20M player, your team will likely be worse, not better.
The $10M range should be reserved for a handful of players and 3rd/4th liners should not be getting long term deals for $4M, yet GMs hand them out like candy, and they are kind of forced to because another dummy will pay if you won't.
So instead of deals that make sense for the team and ther player, the team is expected to swallow some bad deals for short term gain.
I'd rather see a lower cap and lower prices for fans than see borderline "top line" players making almost as much as the best players in the league.

Montreal in the mix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRSus</b></div><div>I Don't understand the obsession with eichel. Why give up the future for 1 player</div></div>
I mean, you’re giving up assets that you likely are hoping will even sniff the level of play Eichel is at. In almost every single Eichel trade, he will be the best player. He’s a bonafide 1C in the league and when he’s on his game he’s a top 10 center.
Say the habs give up KK, Romanov and 2 1sts or something lien that. KK won’t be as good as Eichel ever, Romanov while likely becoming a really good top 4 dman won’t have the impact Eichel has. Then you’re hoping your two 1sts are late, and likely won’t come anywhere close to Eichel. You’re essentially giving up the equivalent of 4 1sts for Eichel, and the pieces you give up will never touch what Eichel does.
That’s why Buffalo is so firm on their price because they lose any Eichel trade they do. Eichel will be the best player in the trade. Unless somehow they get a kings ransom and get a prospect like Byfield, Lafreniere, Beniers or something along those lines.

Apparently Sammy is training in Edm right now and is looking like a beast, according to a comment I read a few weeks ago. He, along with Holloway and Benson are massive potential difference makers next season. If that happens, this team could go supernova, if the goaltending gets sorted out.
Also don't count out Konovalov or Broberg. It will be the most interesting season since Pronger was in town.

An oily guess
At the very least, entering this season with just $18k in cap space and a potential $1.3M in player bonuses guarantees carry over into next season. The potential for that might be eased if you take Stalock off the roster, via LTIR or some other mechanism.
It would be a shame to see McLeod get reduced ice time. Lots to like about his first few NHL performances, and more playing time and experience will only benefit him. I think Turris, Shore, Benson, Kassian, and even Yamamoto are the forwards most vulnerable to seeing reduced roles if Holloway makes the team and can contribute immediately.

Eichel
Problem is random hockey fans don't know yet how good Shane Pinto is going to be. In my books he has more value than a (random) 1st round pick, he's absolutely a building block
I thought the asking price for Eichel was 4 rounders. So why is this basically 4 first rounders + 2 second rounders + Tierney?
Anyway, it would be a mistake to trade Pinto. I know Eichel is the big name and everything but this package has the potential to massively blow up in the Sens face
I know basically everyone give up the moon for star players in these fantasy trades but it never happens like that in the real world.
There's a reason GMs don't give up their Heiskanen for Erik Karlsson.
I think the Sens know what they have in Pinto and are extremely high on him.
If Ottawa had already put Pinto + Brannstrom + 1st (+ secondary pieces) on the table, Buffalo would have made the deal already

Eichel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canuckel_head</b></div><div>Eichel is looking at getting an experimental neck surgery to replace a disc, this should not be taken lightly. Yes, he is an elite player, but there is massive risk at 10mil for 5 more years. I think there needs to be a lot of conditions in the trade if things with either the surgery or his health take a turn for the worse.</div></div>
Agreed. Add to that the statement Eichel and his agent released yesterday and it is very clear that Buffalo's "we can wait" is a load of crap. They will for sure move him before camp starts and they aren't going to get the massive haul they think they will. Hell, I wouldn't even give them Pinto, I'd put White in that spot.

Eichel Is a Calgary Stampeder
If Heiskanen just signed for 8 x $8.45M then Dahlin is getting similar.
This team may be the weakest down the middle in the league. Could help for future high 1st round picks if that's the strategy.

Help Out Tampa Too
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canuckel_head</b></div><div>Jim Benning sees that first and raises stakes by adding a young upcoming grade A prospect.......your move Holland!</div></div>
Holland immediately calls BriseBois and offers a 1st and Draisaitl. Because just like he did with Keith, he looked at Johnsons resumee and saw that he has two cups instead of Draisaitl who has none. Plus Johnson brings leadership and is a veteran player in the NHL whereas Draisaitl's still young and has to establish himself. I call it. You heard it here first.

Oilers Roster With Keith And Wishlist For 2021-2022
First of all not all of these guys will sign even if Holland made all of them an offer. But you said, it's a wishlist.
1) Minni won't take Turris. No one will.
2) Seattle will ask for waaaaaaay more in order to take Neal. A fringe NHL D and a low 2nd certainly won't do it. EDM probably has to buy out Neal.
3) Out of all teams Calgary will be the last team to help out the Oilers. I don't think Koskinen is tradable at this point. Oilers will have to ride it out or buy him out.
4) Kassians contract is bad. PIT certainly won't take him. They don't need him, they don't have the cap space. You'd have to pay teams to take him on. He'll stay.
With that being said, you won't abe able to free up all the cap space like you have. So for that reason alone not all of these FA would be able to sign (even if they wanted to)
5) Kulikov and Larsson are realistic imo. I hope Larsson takes a paycut but I don't believe it. I'd pencil him in at 4x4 at least (and since Holland just showed us that he watched Peter Chiarelli real close [thanks for that Keith deal Ken] he'll probably sign Larsson at 5x5 or something like that). This takes away even more cap space.
6) You'd have to pay Hyman more in order to leave TOR and come to EDM. He's from Toronto, and it's a bigger market than EDM (meaning more financial opportunities outside of hockey). I don't think he'll come to EDM.
7) I like the Granlund and Armia signings. Not sure about their price tags. I don't know them well enough and due to the pandemic it's hard to tell how the FA market prices will be.
8) Since I think that we'll have significant less money than you estimated, I don't think we'll be able to sign Ullmark (or similar). I guess Ken will kick that can down the road and stick with Koskinen/Smith (as bad as that sounds. But hey, at least we have Keith coming in at 5.5x2).
All in all this your ACGM would be the perfect off-season for the Oilers. But I doubt it'll happen. At this point I think all we can expect is the signing of one more 'top' winger and that's it. But maybe I'm just too pessimistic.
