New Jersey Devils signed Nico Hischier (7 Years / $7,250,000 AAV)
Risk-reward deal as he's been a 55 point / 82 game player across his first two seasons (albeit at 18 & 19 years old). There's a good chance this looks like a great deal on the back half but it's a bit steep for the first couple years. Overall I think it's a good signing by Shero as the potential reward of having a #1C quality player at < 9% of the cap outweighs the risk in slightly overpaying him as a #2C (55 points with two-way play) if he plateaus.

The Toffoli extension is about a bit of an overpay. I've seen projections at 6 x $5.25M. I also think the Kings would get better offers than that for him at the TDL. They probably would want the usual player + prospect + pick for Toffoli (especially from a divisional rival).

Major no on Gaudreau for Hall. Major yes on being players in a trade for Hall or trying to sign him as a UFA.

No thanks. Maybe re-signing him over Talbot, but I think his ego would've got in the way of the Flames handing the keys to Rittich which is why they moved on.

Calgary Flames 2
I don't see the reason for either of these trades from a Flames perspective. Mangiapane has shown more at the big league level than JFK, while Kylington is further along in his development than Bean and Calgary's window to win is the next three seasons.

I think Johnson would be a good target for the Flames. Not sure if Tampa would be interested in Jankowski + Frolik back, but it would free up some much needed cap for them next season and they wouldn't be taking too big a step back moving Johnson out for added depth as they could put Stamkos back at C or move Cirelli up.

Jankowski trade
Not a bad trade idea swapping a C for a RD that are about the same age and $. However, I also think Kylington is ready for bottom pairing NHL minutes and having Quine in the everyday lineup is not ideal. This move makes sense if Dube passes Jankowski on the depth chart or we move Bennett back to C.

Jankowski >>> Quine. He's also better at this point than Ho-Sang which is why this is a move you don't make if you are a contending team. Ho-Sang has upside, but Jankowski already has averaged 30 points / 82 GP in his last two NHL seasons.

Mayfield would be a great add if the organization feels like Dube has/will pass Jankowski on the depth chart. I see the 3rd = Ho-Sang and Jankowski + Czarnik = Mayfield, so overall I think the value is fair. As you said it would just be a matter of whether the Isles want to move a great value defender for a pair of third/fourth liners

Flames Fans
I think if Hamonic signs for 5 x $4.5M then he'll have taken a discount to remain a Flame. His comparables (30 year old UFA defensive defensemen) received between 6-7% of the cap, so that would equate to an ask between 4.9 to 5.7 M per season. Personally I wouldn't go any higher than $4.75M on a 5 year term as rugged defenders like himself typically break down earlier than smooth skating puck movers so the last couple years of a 5 year deal could have him slotting in on the bottom pairing.
I would prefer to sign Andersson to a long term deal like Nashville did with Josi and Ellis coming out of their ELC's, but the player may not go for that. If we could get him for a bit of an overpay now, then the back half of such a deal could be a good bargain and hopefully allow us to keep both Tkachuk and Gaudreau around long term in three years time.

Calgary Needs Middle Six Depth
That Brodie trade is gross unless Winnipeg's second is almost a first (which despite their early struggles I don't think it will be). I get that some people hate Brodie for his glaring brain farts but overall he's still a solid #3D with the wheels to break up plays and join the rush and a good first pass when he doesn't have time to overthink. A contending team like the Flames should not be moving him for futures.
I keep thinking how much better this team would be if we got Zucker at last year's deadline so I like that you've circled back on that deal (though a 2020 first I'd say has more value than our 2019 one given the rumoured depth of this year's class).

I like this idea. Calgary gets an established top six winger in Tatar, and I feel Montreal could easily extend Brodie who would fit well alongside Weber.

Philadelphia Flyers signed Chris Stewart (1 Year / $753,757 AAV)
A good locker room guy, and a big (slow) body for the rotating in on the fourth line, but I'm not sure why the Flyers chose to give him a deal when there are better options still out there as UFA's. Personally I would have preferred to sign Boyle if I were a Flyers fan

Keep Neal and dont get Lucic
Neal has looked great so far, but there was about a month of 0.5 PPG play out of Neal last year where we felt like he was turning it around. If he's still scoring by US Thanksgiving then we can look back on the deal as a disaster. I was worried about Neal bouncing back when the trade was announced, but as other posters have mentioned it wouldn't have happened here due to him being a poor fit in our top 6 and the player not having any drive whatsoever when he was playing on the third line. Lucic has brought some of the snarl the Flames were missing at least and the room seems to like him. When Neal's not scoring he looks like a beer leaguer floating around out there. Perhaps over the course of a long season the swap looks better from a Calgary perspective.

Quite hilarious when he's your dickhead. I just can't fathom how a vet like Doughty who's won Cups, Olympic Gold, and a Norris trophy lets a kid live rent free in his head like that though.

I doubt Ho Sang will be happy in Stockton vs. at least rotating in and out of the lineup at the NHL level. Are Quine and Ronaldo better options than him at the moment?

San Jose Sharks signed Patrick Marleau (1 Year / $700,000 AAV)
Nice that they were able to give him a farewell tour in San Jose. For league minimum he will be a good bottom six guy that can help bring their young players up to speed on what it takes to be a pro and have a long career in the league.

(OTT/NYR) - Ebert for Namestnikov
Smart move by the Senators. Namestnikov is a solid middle six player that's versatile enough to play all three forward positions. He's exactly the player a rebuilding team can use to showcase and flip for increased value near the deadline while their prospects play top line minutes in the minors. He's even young enough that they could keep him around to be a veteran presence in the lineup if he fits in well in Ottawa.
The Rangers open up a lineup spot for one of their NHL ready youngsters this season and have a chance to win the trade if they hit a home run with the fourth rounder. I'd say it looks like a win-win for both teams.

St. Louis Blues signed Brayden Schenn (8 Years / $6,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Danny12357</b></div><div>The buyout would cost just over $3.5M in year one, $3.8M in year two then just under $1.4M a year for two years. His salary dips, but it will cost assets to move if his play falls off completely. More and more teams are pressing toward the ceiling each year, with fewer teams having big amounts of cap space, assuming it will be easy to offload him later shouldn't be something that makes the deal seem reasonable.
Also, I am not sure why so many people feel this AAV is such a steal. What would be his fair market value on a reasonable term? $7M x 4 years? I am not saying there wouldn't be a GM that lost his mind and did more than that, but it doesn't make the player worth it. If this is the cost for this player, the Blues should have let him walk.</div></div>
That's true this season, but my reasoning is that the new TV deal and expansion will boost the cap a fair bit, leading to more of the budget teams being near the floor. I'm not saying it's a great deal as I don't like the term, but I think that was the compromise for the team to get the AAV down a bit while they are a contending team.
I already thought the AAV for 6 would be closer to $7.5M (about 9% of cap). For a four year deal my guess is that the ask is close to $8M AAV (about 10% of cap).

2019-20 lineup my way
I agree that it's time to try Lindholm as the #2C and have been wanting to see it since the playoffs last season. I feel like Lindholm does bring some battle to that top line that would be missed, so I personally would try Bennett at RW there. I also think Jankowski could benefit from a move to LW (he has been floating a bit as a center in his own end lately and already likes to leak out of the zone on the PK like a winger would at ES). He could go on a new 3M checking line to give that line two guys who are decent on face offs.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Rieder
x- Czarnik

St. Louis Blues signed Brayden Schenn (8 Years / $6,500,000 AAV)
Term is the price they paid to keep the cap hit down. My guess is a 6 year term would have costed $1M AAV more. Without a NTC/NMC, if his play does fall off a cliff they can move him to a cap floor team towards the end of the deal as he makes $4M the last couple years. A buyout of the last two years is also only an average of $2.6M AAV on the cap over those four years. There will likely be a cap spike after the new TV deal and Seattle, so even the back side of the contract won't cripple them if he can maintain at least middle six caliber play for the last half of the contract. Overall, I'd say it's a fair deal.

Chicago Blackhawks signed Alex DeBrincat (3 Years / $6,400,000 AAV)
Great contract for the Blackhawks! They have him at a really good cap hit while the expensive Kane & Toews contracts are running, and a QO of $9M for a 40G scorer is in line with market value. Skinner makes $9M in 2019 dollars, so by 2023 $9M may be the rate for 30G guys which based on his first couple season DeBrincat should be (at least).

Line-up vs Avs
I'd be curious to see if they try Andersson up with Gio and bring down Brodie to balance the pairings as they won't likely won't get the 3M + Brodano match up against Colorado's top line on the road. Another idea I'd try is flipping Andersson and Hamonic to give Kylington a defensive minded veteran (again balancing the pairings a bit).

Arizona Coyotes signed Darcy Kuemper (2 Years / $4,500,000 AAV)
Didn't really establish himself as a starter until last season, but he has had good numbers as a backup. Not a bad deal for the Yotes in that they have platoon starting goalies each to a decent price (along with Raanta) for a couple seasons. I just think they paid a bit too much as Kuemper's deal is richer than Binnington's who just dragged his team into the playoffs with an amazing half regular season and was really good throughout the playoffs.

Would Calgary do it
Flames wouldn't and shouldn't in a contending year as they are giving up the better players. Maybe if for some reason they've fallen well out of the playoff race they'd try to get some value (Roslovic) for their pending UFA's, but it would mean they've had a disastrous season.
