Making tough choices for the future
I'd say TK is too old to be the main part of the trade, if we're sending out Zegras, we'd be looking for a piece that'll be around as long as he can. Frost not only doesn't close that gap for us, I don't think he has a home on our roster.
You've got an overabundance of RW, it makes sense to exchange that for a center, but from anaheims POV, it's got to be Foerster or Tippett, and you guys just got Tippett signed to a sweetheart deal, and there'd be a strong preference for Foerster by Anaheim, so the add would be a lot higher on Tippett.

Redrafting Vegas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHAR</b></div><div>Mason was not protected and Theodore was not available:
https://www.nhl.com/news/protected-list-for-vegas-golden-knights-nhl-expansion-draft-289972722
From that article...
All first- and second-year professionals are <strong>exempt </strong>from selection, as are unsigned draft choices.
The source you quoted calling these guys "protected but not counting towards the team's total" is really strange wording. Much easier to call them exempt, which is what they were. Theodore played 19 games in 15/16 and 34 games in 16/17 for the Ducks prior to the draft. The two seasons he played less than 10 games in the AHL didn't count as his contract slid in those.
An additional part of Murray's bungle here was giving Bieska, who was almost washed as a player at that point, a full NMC. All players with such clauses required protecting and that meant the Ducks protected Fowler, Lindholm and Bieska. Protecting Manson instead of Bieska would have been an alternate way around trading Theodore.</div></div>
well that's a capfriendly problem, I used their expansion draft simulator and theodore was available, manson was too I just must've missed him

Who to target
I think at this point if we moved on from Gibson, I'd rather get paid to take Campbell than pay to get Knight.
Florida just absolutely botched his contract, he should be at most a 2 million dollar goalie right now.

Whos Gone
Zegras had one off season due to injuries, missing camp, and learning a new system under a new coach while being tasked to overhaul his defensive game.
Laine has been struggling to stay on the ice for four seasons now averaging just over half the games in a season across the last 4 years.
Zegras was unlucky, Laine is a genuine depressed asset at this point, this is not in Anaheim interest.
I like Laine, but I'd be buying low on him due to the risk of his massive contract. Not swapping him for Zegras.

I'm not saying either of those players are untouchables for Anaheim, but it would have to be an offer that at least interests us, and this doesn't. We've put years of work into Vaakainen, if we were planning on cutting him loose for mid round picks we would have done it already, and we're happy to keep Lindstrom around in our bottom 6.
We'll take upgrades that are more expensive cap wise, since these guys will sign for cheap, or well take younger roster players at positions of need, but futures and AHL players don't interest us much.

Draft day capital
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHAR</b></div><div>Hey, anything can happen. A lot of my thought process on this comes from watching Verbeek conduct the last two drafts. He clearly has his list and will take the top guy on it and that list may not match the consensus that floats around. Carlsson vs Fantilli. Mintyukov at 10. Myatovic so early in the 2nd. Picks like those are what I'm talking about.
The other thing is the last time a top 3 pick was traded that was known to be a top 3 pick was like what, a decade ago? I honestly don't remember other than it was a long time ago.</div></div>
Fair enough - I agree that Verbeek is a man with a plan - so there is a lot of unknown.

Hawks aren't in a position to trade back in the draft. If anything they'll either try to get another 1st or upgrade the tampa first.

I don't think Jokers an improvement over Lindstrom at 3RD, and we really need a 1RD, I'm going to have to disagree with you on taking this deal my friend, if it only costs a 4th to upgrade from Joker to Manson, I'm bringing Manson back.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHAR</b></div><div>The Ducks are not trading Gibson to end up with Bob. If the team doesn't want an old, expensive starter why would they maneuver into an even older, more expensive guy? That makes zero sense.
As far as Ekblad goes, he's 28 and one year away from being a UFA. He's the last type of player the Ducks would trade a 22 yr-old for. They'll take a rebuilding team approach this summer and either let the kids play or find a UFA to fill in the gap. I would throw a lot of money at Montour if I was in Verbeek's chair. I'd pay him a heck of a lot more than 5.5M that is for sure.</div></div>
Am I the only one who thinks Montour is a mid 2nd pairing D who happened to have one outlier year?

To translate my friend above:
"You have numerous forward prospects yet you offer up a first rounder, Joker, and a couple spare parts hardly worth 10 Euro.. While the first rounder is a start we would also like someone young (preferably 2 of them please) who's timeline has them stepping into the lineup sooner rather than later. You have Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund and Rosen whom I like to varying degrees. Please come back with another offer, and in the meantime I'll be playing Online Casino whilst wishing a hex upon you"
Or something along those lines. MY German is a bit rusty.

Mysak for Perreault what do we think
Slightly surprising to me because I would have thought that we would keep the RW inasmuch as we're not strong or deep there, so this can't be explained away as a change-of-scenery or handedness deal. I'm hoping that this works out for all four parties.

I don't think Anaheim will want a goalie prospect, but the first and two prospects skeleton is fair, and I think Colorado (or someone else) will offer us a first for Henrique. Now <strong>I</strong>'m on the record!

Wild Card
Cam Fowler leads the time in time on ice by more than 5 minutes over Radko Gudas and Jackson LaCombe, hasn't missed a game this season until yesterday, leads all Ducks defensemen in scoring, and has two more seasons left on his contract, so we won't be trading him for a Chris Tanev-like return. That's an insulting offer for him.
Who the #### is Roman Schmidt? And who thinks that he's a better prospect than Drew Helleson, Tristan Luneau or Noah Warren?

I’m expecting Anaheim to use a high pick on another D. I think that was the driver of the Gauthier swap. This draft points to it unless a specific forward drops.
Either way, Moore is incented to wait as long as possible to sign and get that Harvard degree. His coach is an ex NHL type that knows the business. I believe they are coached to choose the best developmental situation for them and the numbers the Ducks have on the backend is a pretty strong case against them.

With Wheeler Hurt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>I think we need to be more realistic here. Is this enough for those 2 Ducks? No. But I don’t think it’s off as much as we’re suggesting.
Henrique (retained) = ‘24 1st value (in this year’s market based on Monahan/Lindholm)
Vatrano = 1st + good prospect
Kakko <= contender’s 1st (I’d value the first more, but barely)
Kakko >> contender’s 2nd (he’s 23, defensively sound, and had a 40 point NHL season last year as a prior 2nd OA pick)
There’s no way we could assume that we’d get Kakko and a 2 for Henrique (almost a 1st and 2nd in value). Henrique for Kakko straight up should be relatively fair value (especially considering Kakko’s age and RFA status)
Having said that, the rest of that package doesn’t come close to Vatrano. So this should be stripped out</div></div>
Our fundamental misalignment is Kakkos value. He's closing in on 300 NHL games played and the best he has managed to accomplish is a single 40 point season. None of his other seasons were even on pace for 40, they were down on the 30s or 20s. For me, he's Puljujarvi 2.0, he's worth taking a flyer on, not worth paying much for. I personally question if the Rangers even QO him this off-season after having such a huge slump from his previous meager totals.
Maybe we can rehabilitate his career, but it's not like the guy hasn't been surrounded by star talent, and he's been through three head coaches, none of which seem to have much confidence in him. I don't place any stalk in his draft position anymore, I don't know that there's much upside left there. At best he turns into a prime Jakob Silfverberg if we can fully rehab him.

Trying to find a Zegras trade that de-risks the trade for Anaheim
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHAR</b></div><div>"Vast" is a stretch. With Hindsight we know now that Faber is getting plenty of Calder talk in the same year that Connor Bedard is a rookie. But even at the time of the trade he was a NCAA kid chosen to represent the US at the Olympics. He was a top notch prospect then as much as he is today.
Farrell is "meh". You clearly like him. I like him a lot less. A 2nd round pick three drafts from now is also a long way off to get excited about.
I think the overall offer here is good enough to strongly consider, but I really don't think you are blowing the Ducks doors off.</div></div>
Then the offer sounds right! A deal is supposed to be painful for both sides, not an obvious win for one or the other.

Well, Levshunov was my first thought last month when the subject first came up, but everyone started talking about Eiserman. Nevertheless, I still think that Verbeek and the scouting staff will pick a forward, although naturally I won't be disappointed if they select Levshunov.
With quality offense on the LD, I think that we can succeed with complementary players at RD; the need for a star is lessened, in my view. But I may be ploughing my own lonely furrow here.
