So if these 2 things are true, why would any team pay a substantial sum for GIbson?

Gibsons Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>No, it came out as a rumor last summer that Gibson had said that he would never play another game for the Ducks, and he had to come out and publicly deny that. The Ducks said they had no intention of trading him.
His numbers don't look good, but he has had one of the single worst teams in the league playing in front of him for the last several years.</div></div>
The problem with the 'bad team' argument is that his backups are always playing better behind that same team.

Then why wasn't he that in New Jersey, a better team? Been there, done that, didn't have the result you want to claim he will have.

Why would Blackwood be worth anything at all to anyone? Why would someone pay to take a low upside risk on him rather than just taking that same risk on an underperforming goalie in free agency for free?

Gibson isn't worth that. He hasn't put up a league average save % for 5 straight seasons now all while putting up worse metrics across the board than the backups playing behind him on the Ducks.. A Gibson trade at this point would closely resemble the Murray trade from Ottawa.

Trade idea with Toronto
How does this make any sense for the Leafs? With taking Dvorak and no other pieces moving or retention, they have $14,755,333 left next season to fill 5 roster spots which includes re-signing Liljegren and Robertson. They have all kinds of cap space to work with, dont need retention, and don't need to dump Kampf ... so what are they paying for here? You are just moving meh pieces and trying to turn them into a first from a team by providing services they have no need of to disguise the fact you aren't moving anything close to a 1sts worth of value in return.

Tavares would never waive his NMC for this. He'd be cutting himself off at the knees going into a contract year.

You'll probably have trouble getting a return like this. The value in the very recent trade Vancouver made for him and the fact his cheap years are done will limit value.

I mean with that retention the Leafs could just bury Reaves and have the same thing but keep the player. The only case they don't keep the player doesn't involve the retention. The way this probably gets done is a waiver claim rather than a trade.

Why would the Leafs pay big bucks to move someone who's going to be able to be fully burial within the timespan of his contract...and it's a relatively short contract.

I don’t think you know what hype is ; all things Leafs get a lot of attention because we’re the most popular team in the league and multiple media outlets always looking for content. But that’s not hype - I don’t recall any prospect getting over hyped since Matthews; maybe Robertson & Knies to a small extent.
OP simply posted that sought after college FA the Leafs just signed might make the team as 4th liner; that’s far from hype dude</div></div>
Ya, I mean who was hyping up the player who all Leafs fans fell back on 'he would have been a top 10 pick if he didn't get mono' and had penciled into the top 4 for years. Now Liljegren is struggling to make a playoff lineup 7 years into his pro career.

Dark Horse Youngster Who Could Make a Push for a Roster Spot
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>That’s simply not true; if anything Leaf prospects are unfairly dumped on - either by some Leaf fans who love to hate on the team or rival fans who hate the amount of media coverage the Leafs get. Can’t think of the last Leafs prospect that was over hyped; maybe Knies but he’s been exactly what most thought - work in progress , power forward that could bag 30+ goals eventually. Leafs were ridiculed when they picked Cowan, and he’s looking like a steal</div></div>
I mean who was the last Leafs prospect who lived up to the hype from the fans? Liljegren? Nope. Sandin? Nope. Robertson? Nope. Knies? Not looking good so far. The Leafs haven't had a prospect who has lived up the hype since Marner, Nylander and Matthews almost 8 years ago.
Fanbases regularly overvalue their prospects regardless of which team it may be. It's just weird to be doing it as one of the worst prospect pools in the league.

Undrafted free agents out of college don't tend to do all that well. The safe money is on you are overestimating him rather than everyone else underestimating him. This is a pretty common theme among Leafs prospects and their fans.

Hey it didnt work the last few times, because ya know Nylander doesnt play in the defensive zone and one of his biggest pluses is his skating the puck up ice through the neutral zone which centers rarely get to do, but i'm sure it will work this time around.

Don't accuse me of making stuff up if you're too dumb to figure out how to read. But you know, you spread your fictional narrative because you're clueless.</div></div>
You say you use stats that come from NHL.com ... then you proceed with being wrong about the stats that do come from NHL.com. You are just a liar.
For example. here's what NHL.com says about Kotkaniemi's points in the last 6 games.

It's not a career long cold spell, as he's needed time to develop, but surely you aren't that dumb. He's coming off a 40 point season was that a cold spell? He's coming off one of the best analytical defensive seasons by a Hurricane, that a cold spell? Shut up brother, you're clueless. He had 3 months where he couldn't score, his confidence completely dropped, and he struggled. He's still been generating chances, but he's been incredibly wasteful at this moment. It's just a matter of time with him, and simply watching him shows that</div></div>
I've learned that a lot of what you say is just made up after the wild Staal icetime claims you tried to make so I double check claims like this now. 3 points in the last 6 games, including 2 secondary assists in the 7-2 win over Calgary. Surely that's just the new normal rather than him happening to have touched a puck at the right time.

That is quite a mammoth cold spell indeed. It lasted his entire career outside of the first 20 games or so of this season. Close to a 350 game cold spell, that must be some kind of record.
Have you stopped to consider that maybe he went on a hot streak for 20 games(and actually looking it up, it was 14 games) then returned to his normal form rather than went on a cold streak?

It probably happens as a trade rather than an offer sheet. Vegas is actually rather comfortable cap wise this offseason with around 14 mil and a roster of 18. Even if they spend a little over half of that on Hanifin, its just a lot of room left.
