Eichel to NY
I wouldn't include Nils Lundkvist. I'd prefer the trade to be more like:
Chytil
Kakko or Kravtsov (i'd rather trade Kakko)
Strome
and a 1st.
I'd be willing to add a D prospect but one more like Hajek or Robertsson, would need buffalo to retain some salary.

Rangers add a center
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>Buch + 2nd doesn’t makes us better and isn’t worth it
It’s probably going to look like an overpayment if Danault gets traded with an extension attached to it</div></div>
First let me thank everyone who commented. I appreciate you all taking the time to look at the post, and I feel like everyone was reasonable and respectful.
My thinking in the trades I proposed:
Staal- I know he, like DeAngelo are whipping boys for fans, but Staal had a good season. He is a big bodied, fairly physical defensive defenseman with leadership and playoff experience. I know it will surprise fans but I do believe he would bring in a 2nd rounder (3rd at worst) from someone if the rangers retained 50%. As a side note, I believe the majority of the rangers defensive problems result from their forwards failing to provide the dmen with proper support in the defensive zone.
Acquiring Danault- to the habs fans, I hear you. It was a hard trade to try to figure out. From a rangers perspective, obviously I dont want them to overpay, but I wasnt trying to rob Montreal either. the one guy Montreal would probably love from this roster would be Kreider, but I think that is too steep a price to pay. The rangers dont have any other big, physical and talented wingers. Last year aside, Buchnevich produces at a better rate offensively, and I think showed marked improvement away from the puck last year. With Danault in the last year of his contract, I wouldnt pay too much more than I did for him. They could likely just sign him in free agency next season. That being said, if Montreal did let the rangers negotiate an extension, that could be a different story. As far as Montreals motivation for trading Danault, I think there is reason for it. He is in the last year of his deal and unhappy with his situation. If they dont accommodate his request to play higher in the line up he would likely test the market next year. Why lose him for nothing, when you could trade him (not saying they couldnt get a better offer elsewhere). My general philosophy is simple, if you aren't a stanley cup favorite you should trade any player that has value before you lose him for nothing to free agency. Obviously there are exceptions to that rule though.

what do you think about this trade
The rangers aren't going to get anything for Lundqvist at this point. If they want to trade him they'd have to pay. If he won't retire they will just have to buy him out. It makes no sense to give up anything significant to get out of 1 year of a terrible deal.

Steen Salary Dump
last year Toronto had to give up a 1st and a 7th to get rid of Marleau at 1 year 6 million, they got a 6th rounder in return. Thats more in line with what you are looking at to move Steen. dumber things have happened, but i dont see you getting a valuable pick back in return for him.

Addison I'm a Rangers fan, I just recognize value. Also, I could argue neither does Juulsen, he is too busy nursing a head ache... I would consider trading laine, and actually liked an offer by another poster. This offer however was clearly montreal's spare parts for a top goal scorer in his prime, get real. It's not worth arguing this point any further though, as none of you actually offer anything reasonable to argue with. I mean really "you've got kyle conner, he is your future"... Good point, why have multiple good players.

Laine and a salary dump for big package
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>reelkena</b></div><div>Someone can tell you you are wrong about a player and wrong about a comment without locking himself into agreeing with the trade. You are just deflecting that you didn't know and that you "both are wrong" instead of you are wrong. If you decided for everyone that getting hurt is worse then that's on you. You also don't get to claim that is reality just because you believe it. (it's not true also but w/e)
Juolevi in Van was a bust for 4 years party due to injuries, now since he's been healthy we expect him to make the team out of camp and probably play top 4 minutes next season. I'd rather have hurt than bad. One can heal, can't fix trash.</div></div>
I'm not saying "we were both wrong" at all. I'm right, the trade proposal is a montreal fans pipe dream. Once again, i originally said the player can't produce in the minors, which he isnt. he has managed to play 44 games over 2 seasons, and has accumulated a massive 2 goals and 6 assists. not what I'd call all-star production. its hilarious that your little tag line says "fan boys make bad gms" then you get all butt hurt about the fact that i would dare say that a player who is 23 years old and racking up a massive 8 points in the minors might not be fair value for Patrick Laine. not to mention neither of you address the rest of what i said. hmm... i wonder why? maybe because it's all accurate. Weal is a nice energy player, not what you are looking for in a return for a 30+ goal scorer. I guess it's the back up goalie that puts this trade over the top. How could you pass up on that? Domi is good, Laine is much better and could be great. I also find it interesting that you want to analyze my every word yet pay no mind to the fact that the guy is claiming he threw in Eakins as a cap dump, when I pointed out that Eakins is a ufa. that didnt make your radar though huh? completely impartial on this one are you? you want to talk about deflecting, how about answer this question: If you were Winnipeg would you accept that trade? If you wouldn't then I'm right, If you would then you'd be a horrendous gm.

Are you trying to say that you would do that deal if you were Cheveldayoff? I know you wouldn't so don't try that crap. and by the way, thats even better, a dman who can't stay healthy and when he is he doesn't produce. Do i know every teams trash prospects? no. But you wouldn't take that deal and you know it. and way to try to pick that one point and make an issue out of it when the whole deal is trash.

wow. Laine for a 4th liner (weal), a D-man that can't produce in the minors and a goalie they don't need. Do I play fantasy football with you? Max Domi is the only legitimate piece in the deal, and he isnt anywhere close to being worth Laine. And Eakins is a ufa, so how exactly is that a salary dump? you do know how free agency works right?

Jets get their center
I think this is a reasonable trade, though if i was the jets i would only do it if RNH agreed to an extension at the time of the trade. I wouldn't risk giving him that kind of leverage in negotiations.
