2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #4: Deadline is Approaching
Gotta congratulate Logan Stankoven on his first career NHL goal. It will always baffle me how he fell out of the first round, anyone who watched Team Canada at the World Juniors in his draft year knew how good the kid would be. Dallas is one fortunate team to have him

(MTL/WPG) - Monahan for 2024 1st (WPG), 2027 3rd (WPG)
both Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros 'technically' garnered 5 1st round picks in trades. the Gretzky trade involved 3 1sts directly.
Gretzky (along with Krushelnyski and McSorley) netted 3 1sts (89~ #18 Jason Miller, 91~ #20 Martin Rucinsky and 93~ #16 Nick Stajduhar) plus former first round picks Jimmy Carson (86, #2) and Martin Gelinas (88, #7) and $15M from LA in 1988.
Gretzky also returned a 1st to LA when he was traded to STL in 1996 (97~ #15 Matt Zultek)
the Eric Lindros haul from Philadelphia brought Quebec 2 1sts (93~ #10 Jocelyn Thibault and 94~ #10 Nolan Baumgartner) plus 3 former 1st rounders in Peter Forsberg (91, #6), Kerry Huffman (86, #6) and Mike Ricci (90, #4), plus Ron Hextall and Steve Duchesne and $15M in cash in 1992.

How can you possibly vote Jets here.. Were talking about a guy the Flames payed a 1st to get rid of, and is not a game breaker by any means.
This trade makes me love the Lindholm add so much more lol.

Duke Lacrosse, the UVA Rolling Stone case, the Judge Kavanaugh case. There have been many that have turned out to be false. In real time, public judgement was decided, it was guilty. There was a study in Canada that showed the percentage of cases that turned out to be probably false has doubled since me too movement began (from 7% to 14%). Other studies have shown much higher figures for false claims.
None of us have not seen the evidence, heard from the accuser, or heard anything from the defense (other than 4-out-of-5 have publicly denied). No one is able to determine innocence from guilt yet…so all judgements should be reserved.
If guilty, justice will be served. If innocent, I hope the same is true.

Anaheim Ducks signed Jamie Drysdale (3 Years / $2,300,000 AAV)
Great Deal for both sides.
Drysdale gets a chance to prove himself while making decent money.
Ducks get a good young player locked up for 3 years for a fair price.
Would have liked this to be sooner.
Overall W for Verbeek.

Why in a million years would Jamie Drysdale sign for more term than this? He's got all sorts of talent and upside, but no contract leverage coming off a lost season. He'll do far better for himself outperforming on a bridge deal, and being able to cash in properly once he's established himself.

That was just an arbitration number, it's standard salary negotiation tactics. Arb number would have been around 6.5, arbitration filing was just to put some pressure on the situation to get it done.

Hard to see this as a win UNLESS Joe Woll becomes a starter. Otherwise massive L IMO</div></div>
Your 2-3 year deal at a "modest" cap hit would have been in the 4-5M range starting this year. Need to save all the cap space they can this year. Next year and onward it's wide open for making moves.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MatthewsFan</b></div><div>Very surprised Treliving wasn’t able to find some common ground on a multi year deal, even in the 2-3 year range. You are now looking at 5+ mil next year on a long term (4-5) IF he is able to replicate this past season. He could potentially become a Top 10 goalie who could've been had on a modest deal and for a team that has tried 5 goalies (Andersen, Campbell, Mrazek, Murray, and Samsonov) in varying degrees to be the #1 TOR will most likely be turning to a 6th during Auston Matthews 8 year career.

It’s a shame this got to arbitration although I’m sure some are happy with this for some reason.</div></div>
The one bright side is they can see how he plays this season and if he performs well again they can give him a multi year deal. Everyone was saying to give Campbell a multi year deal and look how that went for the oilers. Not saying they’re the same but at least they’re not overpaying
