They can buyout Goodrow with 26-27 being the only season they see a tangible cap penalty, there is no reason to trade an asset to dump Goodrow.

Where is Laf?
I don't think Laf should be going after any of those players after 8. Up in the air on both Sanderson and Drysdale on that too. He's had more of an impact than all of them to this point and still has more potential despite having his growth stunted being stuck on the Rangers third line/no power play time.

Wilson
Trocheck for Girard probably makes sense value wise but Troch has a full NMC and all reports last offseason were that he wanted to stay in the East, so he'd likely nix that. The other trades are just awful though. Trading Miller for one year of Tom Wilson is insane (especially because if they even wanted to extend him he will be 30 by the time the extension starts.) The added 1st is takes it from insane to levels of awfulness I don't have words for. I have no idea what the value would be for Panarin either, but I would hope that player who is well over a PPG at $8m would return more than a second and a 33 year old middle 6 rental. This team is not only worse this year but its worse long term, it doesn't make sense.

Anderson has more PP ice time than Laf every season since he was drafted, its not even close. Lafreniere has more points in less ice time than Anderson. Also mentioning 25 goals for Anderson is crazy considering he has done it once in his career and it was 5 seasons ago (which ironically was the only season of his career he had more points than Laf did last year). Lafreniere will sign a bridge deal in the 2-3 mil range, be cheaper than JA for at least 2 years, and almost certainly be the better and more effective player for those years.

If Laffy is ass according to you, why would you want the Habs to trade for him and immediately sign him long term? Follow up, if he is so ass, why would the Rangers trade him to acquire an oft injured, older, and more expensive player who literally has been outscored by Laf since he entered the NHL in significantly less ice time/PP time?

Its a lot of money they really don't have but the Rangers would match that without hesitation, no way they'd let him go to a division rival for that little of compensation.

Goodrow will be traded for a return or don’t be surprised if Drury packages him with Grubbe or Jones to get some draft picks this year.</div></div>
Sinking an asset just to trade him would be poor management in my opinion. Trading Goodrow creates 3.6 mil in space the next two seasons, buying him out creates 3.8 then 3.7 respectfully and wouldn't have an actual charge against the cap til 25-26. I agree Goodrow has value and will probably be traded for a pick outright but I was just trying to show that even if no one wants to take him from NYR, they can just buy him out with zero problems for the next 2 seasons.

the Rangers have no need for Schieffele nor do they have the cap space to get him. Not to mention that value is absurd for a 1 year rental.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Ok. Let's say the production from Kakko & Tara would be equal for 2 years. Trading Kakko for a King's ransom (no LA affiliation) is the kind of move I would want my GM to do. Develop your overall program to be so interesting it attracts UFAs... Develop prospects and keep some of them and trade others for more prospects.</div></div>
I get what you're saying but I don't think it applies in this scenario at all. They don't have a plethora of winger depth, particularly as is they stand to have to move one of Laf/Panarin/Kreider to RW to fill a top 6 spot so its not exactly trading from a position of strength to restock assets. Not to mention Tarasenko is almost 32 and has a long injury history, he is far from a sure thing to continue to be as good as he was even this year. Smart teams don't trade away young ascending players to retain old past their prime vets. If Drury actually gets a offered a King's ransom of like a mid to high 1st rounder + cost controlled NHL player + a good prospect (which I highly doubt anyone would offer for either of Laf or Kakko currently) then its a different story but trading either of them for magic beans to keep Vlad is bad GM'ing. Also, respectfully, the Rangers could ice a team of mites and they'd still be a top destination for players to sign as UFAs or get traded to haha

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Are you completely against resigning Tarasenko? If I was the Rangers and he actually wanted to play for us, I would make that a priority over holding on to all of my developing players. The package you could get for one of Kakko or Laf would be significant and Tarasenko will def outperform each of them for the next 2-3 years IMO.</div></div>
I would love for them to find a way to keep Vlad but not at the expense of those two. I don't agree that he will outperform the two of them for the next few years however. If you look at just even strength scoring (Laf and especially Kakko got no PP time) Tarasenko had 0.52 points per game vs Kakko (0.45) and Laf (0.43). It isn't a huge difference (not to mention Kakko's impact off the scoresheet.) If Kakko is given a top 6 role I'm positive his scoring would go up significantly. Laf I don't feel as sure saying that about but he's flashed ridiculous talent consistently so I'd rather give him a chance and fail with him than trade him to keep an aging vet and while Laf blossoms elsewhere.

The cynics guide to building the habs
The only way the Rangers trade Lafreniere or Kakko is if the offer blows them away and they get a piece that costs equal/less against the cap and can provide an immediate impact in the NHL. You can disagree if you don't think they are worth it, but the Rangers aren't trading cheap players that can give them middle 6 production at absolute worst.

New York Rangers 2022-23 - A Realistic Amount of moves
If the Rangers give all that up for Monahan after trading all the assets they did at the TDL and selling Buch for pennies all in the same calendar year I will lose my mind. Just sign Stastny or overpay Copp for one year or something at that point.

What I have seen on numerous Sites
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>Monahan had two injuries the last two seasons so you cannot go off of that.
Chytil was given a limited role because he didn't produce in a top role. IMO he is a 3C and the Rangers are going to continue to waste money on a guy who I think will not get any better than that.
Also, Thanks to instat (my team and I use it) and their line tracking capabilities. Monahan played half the season with Lucic, Dube, Ritchie, and Toffoli. He did play with Tkachuk and Mangiapane but barely played with Johnny. Yes, Chytil played in a third-line role, but he just doesn't produce. Don't get me wrong, I think he played decently well in the playoffs, but that is a stretch of 20 games. Can he be that consistent for a full 82-game track? I don't think he can. IMO it's better to sell now while his stock is a bit higher.</div></div>
Why can't we go off these last two seasons just because he was injured? For starters his hip injuries aren't something that will just heal and go away, it will likely be a problem for the rest of his career. Also Chytil has been hurt the last two seasons as well so I'm not sure why its an excuse for Monahan but not him.
"Chytil was given a limited role because he didn't produce in a top role" is objectively untrue though. He played in the top 6 for exactly 4 games this year and had 4 points in those games. Also I specifically mentioned over the last two seasons with Monahan's line mates. He had 468 even strength minutes with Gaudreau in 2021 alone and was squarely in the top 6 yet produced nothing. He was in a bottom 6 role this year because he literally couldn't keep up with the top guys. In fact he was the worst player on whatever line he was on almost all season for Calgary. With or without context, 29 EV points over 2 seasons is horrific.
You keep saying Chytil is in a 3rd line role but doesn't produce, but he literally doubles Monahan's EV strength production over the last two years. He played more than decently well in the playoffs too, he was the Rangers second best forward the whole postseason. He was great. Yea it was only 20 games but its 20 games against top teams in the league, you play the best of the best every night. That said, how can we know if he is capable of being consistent for a full season if he's literally never been given the chance? Give him good line mates and increased minutes and at least see if he can handle it. Also, even if you think Chytil won't get better he is still an insanely good 3C at the moment and the Rangers aren't wasting any money by paying him 2.3 to fill that role. Paying Monahan anything over 1 mil for what he is at this point would absolutely be a huge waste of money though.
I would much rather see if a young and exciting player can take the opportunity in front of him and earn the spot than watch Monahan look like he's trudging through mud next to Panarin for 82 games.

Over the last 2 seasons
Chytil: 109GP-16G- 44P- 13:20 AVG TOI. Most common linemates; Lafrenière, Gauthier, Kakko, Goodrow.
Monahan: 115GP- 18G- 51P- 16:04 AVG TOI. Most common linemates; Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm, Dube.
One is an ascending player who played well in a limited role while the other has looked washed for 2-3 seasons. Flipping Chytil for Monahan would he patently insane.

The idea of trading Panarin for assets and cap space in the name of the future could make sense (despite the fact this is a massive undersell) . Following that up by trading an equal amount in future assets for Brendan Gallagher is insanity.

Rangers would say no to both of those trades. Lafreniere improved as the season went on and into the playoffs and will be a staple of their top 6 next season. I don't think the Rangers want to trade Schneider regardless but this particular swap doesn't make sense for them. They'd just be shifting their logjam from RD to LD and Sandin would be stuck behind Lindgren and Miller.
