Rangers fans what do you want out of a Kaapo Kakko trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slater417</b></div><div>Kakko scored 40 pts without getting any real powerplay time.
He had more even strength goals than mika and the same number as leon draisatl.
To move him would require at least 1 winger of top 6 caliber under control for at least 3-4 years at a cost controlled number.
at least 1 unprotected first and a high end prospect (to match his ceiling)
Thats a trade almost no one in the league can pull off.</div></div>
This take is almost as bad as a Canes fan saying Scott Morrow is basically Cale Makar

Every move here hurts the Devils or is unrealistic. The Marino trade is egregious, Engvall is overpaid, keeping Wood around is brain dead, Meier and Graves both reject those contracts, etc

Would not be the end of the world
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Book_Hockey</b></div><div>I don’t care about points. Points (especially as a defenseman) are a product of opportunity, playing time, and who you’re surrounded by. Miller’s on pace to put up 45ish? This season, which IMO is his first full season playing big minutes (I know he played a ton in the playoff run).
Defense possession numbers- what are you looking at? Genuinely curious. I’m using EH’s RAPM models and they’re not telling the same story.</div></div>
Don't pay for EH so using NST's on-ice numbers - Sergachev in 2019-20 had a higher xG%, was better at suppressing high danger chances and goals, and generally Tampa was better at controlling play while he was on the ice - in fact, he was better in all 3 of his first 3 NHL seasons at that than Miller has been. I understand that RAPM tries to cut out some noise from the affect teammates and QoC can have between two players, but sorry, I'm already subscribing to too many sports sites to add another!
Beyond that, though - I think it gets into splitting hair territories, because we can sit here all day arguing over which analytics provide a better picture of a player and it would be ignoring the simple fact that NHL GMs are loathe to set precedents when it comes to RFA players - while I won't disagree that in a completely open market Miller could get $5-6M AAV, there's no way in hell Chris Drury is going to go that far above and beyond that most recent highwater mark for an RFA defenseman, especially not in a flat cap world. What's the worst that'll happen to him, another team actually getting off their ass and offer sheeting someone?

Laf offersheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeadWingsv2</b></div><div>Offer sheets only go through when they're for way more than the other club can afford, or is willing to risk being stuck with, because the contract has driven into untradable territory. Otherwise, all they accomplish is bad blood between GMs, soured relationships with a player and the club, tied up assets while the process plays out and then if they actually go through - the prize is giving up a boat load of picks for an overpaid player.
I will never understand the fascination with offer sheets.</div></div>
If NHL GMs werent such babies, offer sheets would be a fantastic tool.

What Happens if Lafreniere is Offer-Sheeted in the 6M Range
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AG_sweden</b></div><div>Goodrow would be bought out.
I wouldn't pay Laffy 6 M regardless if I'm Drury or some other GM.</div></div>
This isn't a question of would you want to. The question is if they HAVE to. The Canes have well enough cap space to theoretically offer-sheet Lafreniere in the $8.4M range.

A reminder of the rejected offer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac555</b></div><div>This is what Lebrun reported, but my understanding is that the Canes did offer the second first with conditions. I’m no insider so
Lebrun knows more than me.
It came down to No Nikishin and you’re out. Canes said we are out.
From LeBrun;
“The Canes tried valiantly over the past 10 days, especially. One of their final offers had six pieces in it, including a first-round pick and a second-round pick, plus prospects. But the one young player they never relented in not wanting to move is Russian blueliner Alexander Nikishin. It might have been a game-changer had Carolina included him in the package, but I don’t blame the Canes for wanting to keep him. They have big plans for him.“</div></div>
I would have done it. Nikishin plays on a team that's just better than the rest of the league as a whole. Not just 1 player. I'm pretty sure it's now 7 straight years being the league's top team. Hard to say going from 4 assists with Moscow Spartak for the full year to <strong>44</strong> is all due to him/his development. It's at least in part because of the team he's on. It's also 3 years from now that his contract is up and CAR would still have had Morrow / Heimo.

San Jose fans should be very happy with this.

Fill out the bottom 6 and lets rock n roll
As a Devils fan, can we stop with this Henrique BS? He’s 33 making almost $6m until he’s 35 and will be nothing more than a 3C for NJ. He’s scored 50 points twice in his career 8+ years ago. Sure, he’s on pace for a good year now, but that just makes his trade value go up. He isn’t worth what it would cost to get him. Those pieces would be better spent elsewhere.
Nostalgia isn’t a good reason to get him. That’s a Lou Lamoriello move, and we’re past that.

So NJ can upgrade Holtz who they hope can be a 30 goal scorer and a late 1st for an elite power forward who’s 26 and coming with a longterm extension and don’t want to do it? 😂.
SJ gave teams permission to negotiate so if NJ don’t feel like they can sign him longterm or his demands are ridiculous , they just won’t make the trade.
Holtz + Walsh + Wood/Johnsson + 2023 1st for Meier with an 8 x 8.75 mill extension is more than fair for both teams

Research some other prospects. Or other teams.
Also, I think the odds of Meier-to-NJ are very low any way. Fitzy is likely just trying to price NYR out of the running (like he did with Gaudreau and PHI/NYI).</div></div>
Holtz has a good shot and most of the sharks prospects are set up guys, plus the relationship with Eklund. it just kind of fits. I know Nemec and Mercer are off limits and accept that. but Holtz to me doesn’t seem off limits and the deal would help both clubs.
