<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BobrovTree</b></div><div>Exactly, everyone knew when the core got their contracts, depth pieces were constantly going to be coming in and out. Now that it's happening everyone is freaking out. I like Mikheyev, but i also remember the 10 breakaways he had in the playoffs and didn't score 1... Why not give the young guys a look? You can add depth pieces whenever.
And yeah, Ottawa/Det/ and even BUF all got better, but they were at such lows their improvement looks amazing. We'll see how they actually play. Funny how nobody is questioning Husso, Anton Forsbeg/Talbot, Or whoever Buffalo has in the net. But god forbid the leafs have a 2x cup winner and a young goalie who could still become quality. Dubas isn't done at all yeah. Leafs will be fine and im going to laugh at these tweets/ posts on here in a few months</div></div>
Yeah no kidding, there are people trying to stir up attention by saying the Leafs will miss the playoffs due to how much "worse" our goaltending is. Husso had a good stretch but has no prior results to backup that performance. The amount of money Detroit committed to Husso and Chiarot was very puzzling imo. Forsberg was good for OTT, but he's not a long term starter and Talbot is only getting older. Buffalo has Craig Anderson and Eric Comrie so they're just straight up out of the question. At this time of the year I just ignore all the noise because its the same thing year in and year out

Excellently put. The headlines change depending on the situation to stir up hate clicks and engagements. All season, Campbell was "not a starter", injured, and terrible aside from one month. Now that he's not a Leaf, we are missing a "key piece" who is being talked about like a must-see, Vezina candidate. Mikheyev is good, but he wanted way too much and got WAY too much. Kase was stellar, but there were too many question marks. The Marlies graduates are going to fill in just nicely in this lineup. Robertson is top 6 ready, Anderson has NHL experience and has been great in our system. Sandin and Liljegren have taken the next step. Engvall was better than Mikheyev during some stretches this season. Murray has experience and is a guy who wants to prove something, and Samsonov is young and being taught by the same man who created the monster we know as Thatcher Demko. This is my least favourite time of year because everyone simultaneously dunks on the Leafs for what they do and what they dont do. Realistically, we have done exactly what we have to, but because we havent loaded up on high end talent (Ie. Detroit, Ottawa) we are worse off now. We already have high end talent that is top 2 in the division. Its also only been 2 whole days of FA, and you dont build a team through FA anyways.

Couldn't agree more with you. People need to calm down. Was thinking about making a post like this myself.
Everybody is freaking out about goaltending, last season our save % as a team was .900 flat. We added Murray .906 & Samsonov .896. We are pretty much in the exact same spot there.
We still have to figure out what we are going to do on D. We can afford to move one player and get some assets back or trade for a different defenseman or forward. We have flexibility there.
NAK is a very good add to the bottom 6. Think he plays on a line with 47 & 64. Gaudette & Malgin are depth adds. They likely compete for one spot on the 4th line. Joey Anderson is right there too. Simmonds maybe takes a step back and becomes 13th forward. We still have room for a couple of extra adds from FA to increase the competition. Abruzzese & Steeves could surprise and take a spot, wouldn't count them out, but not factor them in as guaranteed 4th liners.
Leaves us with Robertson. Do you give him a look with 91 & 88? Don't think he is suited to the shutdown role 47 & 64 play, so it would have to be 4th line minutes otherwise. Maybe trade bait with Kerfoot + Holl for upgrade at 2LW. Would look at guys like J.T. Miller, Yanni Gourde, Mangiapane & Necas. A few of them might be too expensive, but that is my thought process.

I dont see too much issue with the trades. Might need a sweetener to get Arizona on board, and the Muzzin trade works for both sides with the salary retained. Strome won't sign for under 2M. That's the only problem I see.

First Overall's From the Last Decade Ranked
The way I see first overall picks ranked is normally based on projected career. Idk it’s weird seeing power at 5 having a few nhl games under his belt and slaf at 10. Tbh ekblad is last, then nico, then laf, then slaf, and ur list is right the rest of the way up. Nico and laf will flip flop if laf doesn’t take a huge step this year

Coleman Pricetag Sets the Bar
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BobrovTree</b></div><div>Man cmon, im a leaf fan and this is ridiculous lol. Coleman is a 25 goal scorer who still makes like 2 mil less than Kap. Tampa desperatley needed him and his term for the upcoming offseason too. Nobody is giving up that much for kappy until he proves to be a consistent 25+ goal scorer</div></div>
Coleman’s highest point total was 36 he’s on Pace for 45 points this year. Kap is coming off a 44 point season and on pace for another one? Now Coleman is awesome in all 3 zones but I’d say they are both fairly comparable. Coleman slight edge on cap kap slight edge in age rfa

I think he's earned #2 status now in the league. On teams where they have a legit #1 and #2, most guys are are going to be #3 and those are far and between. Most teams #2 centerman is a 50 point guy. Danault is that and defensively resilient. All while doing it with little PP time.
Put Danault next to Kane and Debrincat and he's arguably one of the better #2's in the league. He's the closest thing to a #2 version of Bergeron out there right now.

Keeping Gardiner if Marleau Retires
I love how Leafs fan suddenly love Gardiner, because without him in the lineup, the Leafs have played worse. Jake Gardiner is not a good defensive player, and at this point in his career, that will not change. You don't give a guy $5 million for only offense, when he is one of 6, and suppose to be a top-4 in fact, defender whose main job it is to keep the puck out of our net. There's just too many sloppy defensive plays, miscues, turnovers, you name it. And besides, He is not accepting $5 million when the open market is bound to offer him a chance at more.

Leafs Roster Thoughts
This is one of the best Leafs AGMs that I've come across. And I think your description perfectly sums up where the leafs are right now. We're in good shape.
Like your take on how Dubas sees Willy as a core piece. Everything he's shared publicly on Nylander points to Dubas seeing him as a long term leaf - and likely riding shotgun to AM while Marner does the same with JT. Throw in the emergence of Rielly as a legit Norris contender and Freddy continuing to be steady, and that's a core that will compete for the cup at some point. Leaf Nation will continue to be angsty.. but, we really are in good shape..
Like your listing with the Marlies depth, and how Dubas values those guys and the development process. Couldn't agree more. I'd only add that Mason Marchment should maybe get a nod there too. He has some tools that the leafs lack. I could see him getting a look next year if he can stay healthy and continue to build on his last 2 seasons.
All in all, awesome stuff! And very timely, too.
