No way you move to 1. Chicago is a junkyard dawg with a big ole bone in that pick. You can probably get to 2 with a nice offer, but at the end of the day, Carlsson stock did rise at the worlds. So who knows.

Hey Jackets
That is tempting, but I think ultimately the Jackets would rather have Johnson & Leo Carlsson than Scheifele/Helley.
As far as their relationship with Elvis goes, it's TOO MUCH and ALWAYS ON MY MIND. IF I CAN DREAM, with SUSPICIOUS MINDS, It's NOW OR NEVER.
The CBJ will give Elvis one more year to make MEMORIES while PLAYING FOR KEEPS. Otherwise, if he keeps playing like a HOUND DOG by mid-season, and they/re having a BLUE CHRISTMAS & WAY DOWN in the standings, Jarmo will be ALL SHOOK UP and say THATS ALRIGHT, SIT DOWN, POOR BOY, BABY I DON"T CARE, we are CRYING IN THE CHAPEL over your game, and we need to buy out your contract and RETURN TO SENDER where you can check in to the HEARTBREAK HOTEL.

OK, so Grzelcyk is really that much better than Bemstrom?
He's 6 years older, makes $500k more, 3 inches shorter, 16 lbs. lighter, and his stats are a bit underwhelming.
Is he feisty, like Marchand?
Or does he just need a scenery change?
Why exactly should CBJ give up the #34 pick in the 2023 draft in this trade? I am just not seeing it.

Agree completely. Graves will probably be looking in the 5m range for longer term.
Also, agree target 1 short term 1C like Hayes, Kuz, OR JT Miller (I prefer Kuzy first, then Miller and Hayes last) and rely on Jenner, Kuraly, Sillinger/Roslovic and Beddy/Fanty/Leo/Smitty for your depth (5 to slot into 4 positions). Maybe keep Sillinger in Cleveland until injuries/he shows more

who says no - trading from 2OA to 6OA
I think the consensus is no.
You didn’t clarify if this is pre-lottery or post-lottery.
If this trade is made prior to the draft lottery, the prize very well could be Bedard… so probably a big no pre-lottery.
After the lottery, if these positions are set, I still lean no, as Fantilli is the sized 1/2 C the Jackets are coveting, especially since Dubois found the exit sign out of Columbus.

Lets face it this team sucked
Long before the injuries…before Werenski & Voracek went down, they were starting to show their true colors.
The Colorado series in Finland was just the plot of the story being revealed in the 2nd chapter.
Merzlikens is overhyped and overpaid.
Gudbranson is over the hill and not bringing any type of mentoring or positive influence in the young D corp that outweighs his diminished capacity and salary.
Texier is probably never coming back.
They are destined to ice a bunch of AHLers.
Jenner sure is trying hard to keep them together.
And Johnny has game but can’t carry an entire team.
The sad part is, they aren’t even trying to tank.
They actually do suck this bad.
Oh, and they were relying on signing a bunch of home town kids like Roslovic and Kuraly that are nothing more than bottom 6ers.
Foudy? Bemstrom? Robinson?
Need to turn them loose.
Laine is made of paper mache for such a big fella.
In 2023-24, it will take a miracle in landing Bedard.
And in finding lightning in a bottle with a goaltender…
Maybe a kid like Jet Greaves will emerge out of nowhere…his name sounds like he has some game.
And Merzlikens can play token minutes as the leagues highest paid backup for another year until they feel comfortable enough buying out that contract.
They need Silly to pull his head out of the clouds for year #3 and play some better hockey.
And hope Johnson & Marchenko don’t suffer the Silly sophomore slump.
Oh, and they need someone in the coaching staff (like Torts did) that will hold them ALL accountable for playing a team style defense instead of just running and gunning like an undisciplined group of pond hockey misfits.
This is a best case scenario.
And leaves plenty of salary to re sign some players in 2024 and possible target a UFA (moving a contract like Guds or Rossie).

Jarmos Big Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>There are maybe three other teams in the league with D prospects better than Mateychuk who aren't in the NHL yet. The fact that Columbus happens to have a better D prospect than him doesn't diminish the fact Mateychuk is still a top five or six D prospect in the whole sport. Calgary would be thrilled to land him in a trade.</div></div>
Mateychuk is a left side D man. As of now, and trading for Murphy (even with trading away Peeke above), they have Guds, Jiricek, Blankenburg, Boqvist, and Bjork for depth.
So if they are to trade a top D prospect, then Jiricek makes more sense than Bean, who has an offensive upside but struggles defensively

Jarmos Big Trade
Unfortunately, Calgary isn't going to bite on that package.
Fix-Wolanski is like Foudy, he is not projecting/rising above the other talent in our organ-eye-zation, so really does need a change, but not considered a top tiered prospect.
Bean is oft hurt, and is not a top tier defender, probably 3rd pairing at best.
Roslovic has hit his ceiling, and is very inconsistent in the heart of the season, when it counts most.
Matechyuk is a very decent prospect, but not even the highest D prospect in our organization. They would want Jiricek as a part of the deal rather than Mattie
Why keep Sillinger? Offer him up in the package, since you have both Jenner and Kuraly playing the wing.
Package of 1st 2023 (LAK), 2nd 2023 (CBJ), and 2nd 2024 (CBJ), Sillinger, Jiricek, & Roslovic would probably be better package and get the deal done.

What are you giving up for Hayes
Let's see, I know there is a lot of talk about brining Hayes into Columbus due to connections with current players.
And he is a solid center (2C at best, now in this league).
He is a big guy, at 6'5", the type of frame that the Jackets love, since he takes up a ton of space on the ice.
That being said, he plays a lot more like a marshmallow than a bulldog (he averages about 20-30 PIMS per year in his career), and doesn't really stand up for his teammates like a guy that size should.
He is a lot like a guy we already have, in Laine, in that regard.
Oh, and his faceoff % over 10 full seasons topped 50% only 3 times. So he doesn't really bring much in that regard either.
Personally, i would probably want to target another solid 2C option with better physicality and faceoff prowess than Hayes.
But if i had to offer, I would give a couple 2nds and 3rds, or mid-level prospects like Foudy, Bemstrom, etc. or D men.
If it came down to a 1st, I'm not sure I would part since this is a deep draft (2023) and the LA pick might be in the 20-27 range.

Hayes god I hope not
Gudbranson is not the piece in this trade.
It would be nice.
He will stay for at least another year for his mentorship and toughness that they need.
Hayes would be a fine 2C IF the Jackets land Bedard.
Hayes could use a change of scenery.
He has a high price, but chemistry could be very good with the current lineup of potentially high scoring wingers of Laine, Gadreau, Johnson, and Marchenko.
I would not not do this if the Jackets do NOT land a top C that they can use at entry level salary to absorb his high cost.

The Jackets REALLY need Quick now.
Their tanking efforts are falling short lately (5-2-2) and Korpi had to go.
Elvis maybe is starting to figure it out, so having Quick stand in might be the best option to lose a few more games.
Columbus is famous for doing this, sucking right up to the trade deadline and then getting hot the last 8 weeks of the season to blow any chance of getting decent draft pick.
With Quick, we might be able to stem the tide a bit. But then again, I doubt Quick even reports to Columbus.

I could see Gavrikov returning a 1st and 4th, but not that 3rd pick. He is just not that good for a rental player.
CBJ have done very well in the draft over the last 3-4 years, and have a ton of blue-chip prospects in the pipeline.
The problem is, they are starting to collect too many of them, and they just cannot break them into the lineup.
Even with a team with serious injury issues and man-games lost, at some point they are going to need to trade a few away for more now-ready players or future picks.
Also, Jarmo just doesn't like to trade picks away, or prospects either...which he needs to do to be more successful and have a much more competitive team on a more consistent basis.

It’s funny, there was so much hype when he arrived, it was like the Wizard of Oz. Shortly after, it was all smoke and mirrors, the man hiding behind the curtain.
I thought he was a hothead when he got here, let his emotions control him, just like Ron Hextall did in the 80s/90s for the Flyers
In 4 years, he barely had winning season (more wins than regulation losses) the 1st year. Last 3 years were all losing seasons, and progressively worse.
His GAA went from 2.35 to gradually worse each year to 4.28 now.
His save % has gone from .923 to .873 now.
He gets so out of position continually.
And just does not seem to track the puck nearly quick enough.

Let's be serious now.
The Jackets are famous for sucking from October to February...getting hot in March-April, and then drafting in the 10-14 range.
Also, keep in mind, that if they finish 32nd in the league, they only have 25% chance of getting Bedard, which is 75% chance of NOT getting Bedard.
One only has to look at CBJ draft lottery misery from 2000-2022 to know they would be picking 3rd-5th OA.

I think Jarmo would take that deal. It doesn't involve a 1st, and Bemstrom is fairly solid but needs change of scenery.
I think Jarmo would probably counter by offering Foudy instead of one of the 2nds. I think Foudy needs a change to, and would thrive on a team like the Caps. SImilar to Milano (ex Jacket 1st round pick).

Worst Contract On Every Team As Of Now
I have to disagree with Panarin & Gudbranson.
Panarin still makes the players around him so much better. Granted he only has 12 goals thus far, but he is still more than point per game player and creates so much space on the ice for his linemates.
As for the Jackets, by far I would vote Elvis over Gudbranson at this point in time. $5.4M backup goaltender is a much bigger liability since Guds is still brining physical presence and mentoring for the youngins.

Shoulder injuries are very unpredictable when it comes to recovery time.
At this point, the Jackets should definitely sell for the highest offer, since the chances of re-signing him are 0%.
The Jackets have lost a bit of leverage on Nyquist as to what they would receive in return.
With retention of salary, they could probably get a 3rd, and with no retention maybe a 4th? I would be surprised if they can get a 2nd for him.
