Calgary offseason shakeup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gamblewizard98</b></div><div>I think its pretty fair. Florida is getting an elite winger in his prime with Gaudreau and a high upside young roster player in Dube. Calgary gets the young center prospect it needs and a middle six forward to replace Gaudreau on the left side. I assume Gaudreau would agree to resigning in Florida before the trade like stone did, otherwise, yeah Florida might not do this deal.</div></div>
I don’t think you’re way off or anything but there’s no chance Florida moves Lundell. They are gonna want to see what he turns into. He’s such a high end prospect. I’m a Flames fan and of course I’d make this deal from their perspective. But we know what Johnny is and what he isn’t. Dube could still get better all around and I hope he does. But Lundell is expected to be a franchise centerman who could turn them around for the long term. I don’t think Johnny and Dillon have that same potential impact in Florida.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeuck75</b></div><div>McDavid is SOOOOOO much better than Crosby it's not even funny!! Could you imagine picking a not even top 5 player anymore over the BEST sports player in the world?!?!?!</div></div>
You’re the one who said you wouldn’t take “the entire team” for McDavid. And while that’s obvious because of the salary cap that’s also the main problem the Oilers have been dealing with since their glory days of the 80’s. Their roster today is built to score goals. And that sounds fine and like a good strategy but they are paying 21 million dollars a year to just McDavid and Draisaitl. Edmonton has been riding mediocre goaltending and defence for decades. They need guys like Nurse to become very solid defensively. Hopefully guys like Ethan Bear, Evan Bouchard, and Philip Broberg can keep developing all parts of their game. It’s fun to watch the highlight reel goals McDavid and Drai pull off. But it’s gotta be exhausting being an Oilers fan having the best player in the game and hoping he can outscore the entire team across from him. Every. Single. Game.

Oh okay I see. Yeah I’ll obviously be cheering for Team Canada because that’s where I’m from. But man, Team USA is gonna be unbelievable to watch. What a treat for hockey fans.

I thought I read though a few weeks ago that Sid let management know that they can trade him for futures. Like he doesn’t want Pittsburgh to just let his contract run out and they get nothing for him. Super nice guy. He definitely cares about that organization.

I can’t imagine BUF would be interested in that package. Reinhart is part of their future whereas neither Rinaldo or Ryan are a part of the future for Calgary.

While I completely agree with what you said, I doubt Philly wants to part with futures, I think all of us (myself included) tend to over value our prospects a little when looking at a trade for proven full time NHLers. Lindholm is basically the Flames top line centre. A real solid number 2 on a contending team. And Andersson has taken on a lot of responsibility the last two seasons.
To be fair, I know nothing about Ersson, but this deal could probably drop him because Wolf is looking promising for the Flames.

Yeah this isn’t so bad. I feel like Florida is gonna see what they have in such a high end prospect in Lundell. I can’t see them moving him. Like <a href="/users/Preston_Mattesich" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Preston_Mattesich</a> said, replace him with Heponiemi and maybe that gets it done.

How about no?

Eichel and parts
Yeah this is an overpayment for sure. Okposo and Rieder in my own opinion aren’t worth a first round pick together. And then between Johnny, Valimaki, Pelletier and the two first rounders I’d say that package is worth about 6 first rounders. And to me 6 first rounders is too much for 1 Jack Eichel.

I understand it didn’t work out cap wise but Dube, Monny and a 1st is interesting. I still feel like the Flames would have to add something else. A young guy like Zary or Pelletier maybe. Either way if Eichel gets dealt the team trading for him is definitely gonna feel it.

I feel like this is pretty close. Honestly it sucks to say but I feel like the only way Johnny gets traded is if at first it looks like we lose the trade on paper. We shouldn’t risk the next 2 first rounders. And I feel like that’s the only way we can upgrade on Johnny.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>I do. Johnny > Debrusk and Gio < MacAvoy, so that's kind of a push when you look at it that way, but we've seen both Johnny and Gio's ceiling (and Gio won't get close to that ever again). McAvoy is a #1 and only 23, and we haven't seen fully what Debrusk can do yet. This keeps CAL in the mix this year, and is much better for their future, while it shortens an already short BOS window.</div></div>
Alright that makes sense to me. Seems like a risky add to me but maybe either a 1st rounder this year or next year or a first rounder with some protection because the Flames are shaping up to have a really high pick in this upcoming draft.

Do you see Johnny and Gio for Debrusk and MacAvoy as fair or in Calgary’s favor? Just curious. I don’t follow the Bruins nearly close enough.

Speaking as a Flames fan, I much prefer this compared to the deal that involved Johnny and Hanifin for Debrusk Griz and a couple picks.
I was quoted earlier today saying Boston and Calgary might not be good trade partners. But this is the closest proposal I’ve come across from Boston in awhile.

You’re probably right. I would love to get Lundell on the Flames though. I feel like Monny and Benny might be an overpayment though. A proven top six center and a gritty playoff performer for what is hopefully a very promising prospect in Lundell. At least Florida would know what they have with Sean and Sam.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UnkleRakesh</b></div><div>You also have to consider debrusk has a potential of 10yrs team control vs JG walking in 2 years is it?
How’d he do in the playoffs? Gaudreau isn’t a perfect player and he’s fallen out of favor with his coach who just came in. Debrusk has more size which would help when they get beat on by EDM and MTL.
I’m not even sure I want JG at the end of the day based on playoff performance, but I would like him to help us make the playoffs which I think he will.
What do you add or change to make that deal work or do you know nothing about the Bruins because they are on Canadian TV twice a year?</div></div>
Yeah, you’re not wrong about any of that. Johnny helps the Flames get into the playoffs and I only watch Flames games so I don’t see Boston or Toronto much either for example. I guess I’m just tired of other fan bases undervaluing Johnny, only Calgary is allowed to do that haha.
I just feel like Boston isn’t a good trade partner for Calgary. I’d rather trade Johnny plus a pick to upgrade on him rather then downgrade skill wise and get a more physical player with term.
And then Hanifin. He’s finally having the season everyone was hoping he would after acquiring Tanev. Best situation to sell high I suppose. But I’d rather him be a future top 2 dman here as opposed to somewhere else. And I assume the management group would prefer that as well.
At the end of the day none of us have any real gm experience but if a cynical Flames fan thinks you are undervaluing Johnny then you certainly are. I just don’t think we can put together a package that Calgary will like or that Boston fans/management would agree too.

127 points in 224 games or .566 points a game. 472 points in 501 games or .942 points per game. It <em>will</em> take more than 2 seconds to make up that difference.
