<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>True, wish there were more JR's :tearsofjoy. I see you're point, but I'm of the opinion that a GM shouldn't care about much context other than "is what I'm getting helping my team". If your trade target is the missing piece that you get to add to your roster, who cares if you helped the other team out of a jam. Obviously you don't want to overpay, but trying to force one's hand can lead to missing out on the target altogether. I don't think all 30 GMs team up to decrease value. Every GM knows the Blues need to shed the cap, but some team out there will pay the price if it checks their boxes.</div></div>
It's not that I think the GM's are trying to decrease the value of him, It's just that this is the most unique situation I have seen I think where the Blues have 2 elite RD so the teams that need one AND have the space to fit one of them know that trading for Parayko directly affects the chances of Petro hitting the market so it might be a "too much for him I'll wait for Petro to go to FA". With a flat cap this year lots of teams are gonna be trying to move money around so if you have to go make a separate cap dump elsewhere to get the full value package for Parayko it's still technically deminishing the return just not all in the same deal.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>Parayko and Blais for Nylander (and add a league min contract to the Blues roster) is basically neutral on cap. Blues could move Allen and Bozak any time before Tarasenko comes off of LTIR to stay below with Petro in the fold. The Faulk trade clearly ruined what would've been a pretty chill couple of offseasons lol but here we are.</div></div>
Yea it's close to neutral and I agree the value doesn't seem too far off, I don't see them moving Parayko if it doesn't solve the Petro situation. Maybe something built around Parayko + Bozak for Kerfoot + Dermott + 1st rounder. Parayko is obviously worth a lot but most GM's aren't gonna help your cap situation (especially with the Petro clock ticking) AND give you a full value. There is only one JR in the league.

If there was a Parayko trade it would have to be salary cutting, the Nylander trade would just make it harder to sign Petro. And there is no way in hell the blues are trading Parayko and letting Petro walk. The blues are in a tough spot after the Faulk trade, since anyone in the market for Parayko knows the move helps the Blues get Petro signed so either the Blues take a package of futures for Parayko or that team waits and takes a run at Petro in FA.

Can someone please explain why they hate the Kap trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>That was at the trade deadline. Contenders constantly overpay to get a player to put them over the top. No reason to overpay for a 3rd line player like that instead of using that package to go after someone like a legit top 6 like Nylander, not Kapanen.</div></div>
Zucker is a perennial 20/45 guy and went for a similar package but is paid 5.5 million. Kapanen has done that once already while not getting any first unit power play time and playing 3rd line minutes and he is 3.2 million a season.
I'm not saying he's the best option out there, but he's no 3rd line plug. He is young with the possibility to be a great investment if JR sees him as a top 6 forward for the Pens, who are trying to be contenders for a few remaining years of Sid/Geno/Letang.

I think the Leafs made out well but Kap is still valuable. A first rounder is great and so is a solid prospect but they still haven't touched NHL ice. An NHL player with upside is way more valuable then a first round pick not in the top 10. Not to mention he is under contract for 2 years with the real money owed less than his cap hit and RFA still.
The Lightning paid 2 firsts (Nolan foote + pick) for Blake Coleman who is a 20 goal guy on a great contract. With the flat cap because of the pandemic the cost certainty of an NHL player already on a decent contract may be more valuable then previous years.

The only Dumba to TOR trade that makes sense
That may work for Minnesota but I don't think it does for Toronto. Not arguing value of Dumba but the experiment with Barrie on Toronto hasn't worked and I don't see Dumba being any different.
I think if there is a trade to be made with the Wild and Leafs it's for Brodin.

Minnesota tear down
Brodin gets you essentially a middle six player but Dumba gets you one of the biggest trade packages in recent years with 2 established NHLers under team control and essentially 2 first rounders.
Brodin and Dumbas value are not that far apart Dumba has an extra year but brodin has a lower cap hit so they shouldn't be that far apart.
If your looking at trading Dumba the package St. Louis paid for Faulk should be the model.

This seems to be the typical modus operandi of a lot of Leafs fans on this site. Target the guy they want, ie Pesce, Manson, Dumba, then spend the next month telling us how bad he is to justify lowball offers.</div></div>
Dumba is a Norris candidate the same way PK was, hard shooting point producer but Minnesota has a very solid defence that takes the defensive pressure off Dumba. Spurgeon and Bordin are under rated plus they have Suter who should have won the Norris when PK did. I don't think he will be as effective as a Leaf, same way Barrie has been torn apart at points this season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Basing Manson's skill off 1 game (especially his defensive skill against one of the most offensively strong teams in the league) is kinda near sighted. If you look at his stats over the last 3 years he has very high defensive zone starts and is always one of the top TOI players for the teams PK. This year his zone starts have been more even and his CF% has gone way up (as it naturally should on a rebuilding team). He is a heavy hitter which the leafs lack and overall solid defensively. Leafs would be blessed to get him on their roster.</div></div>
I have not watched a lot of Manson he did have a few rough moments last night but a few great plays on the PK. What are Ducks fans opinion of Manson compared to Fowler? Because watching last night Manson was almost exclusively on with him and Fowler to me seems like the one who really stabilizes that pairing.

IMO Carey Price has the most immovable contract in the league. Obviously Montreal will want full value for Price but the way he has played recently teams would want to be compensated for taking on that much money + term.
Making the money work plus what either team would want I just can't see it.

Nothing against Robert Thomas but have some respect for Jack Eichel. Eichel came in with Mcdavid so he didn't get nearly as much hype but he's a franchise player, Thomas isn't even close to being that. Thomas is a good piece on a very good team.

Nylander to NYR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>I’m sure you’ve seen my posts, I am a Rangers fan. I’m just truly trying to figure out cap wise from Toronto perspective how we can get Nylander without them saying that I’m a crazy NYR fan who is trying to steal him. He can end up as an 80+ point C/W. Rangers need to get rid of Ruff and allow a different mind to coach the defense. Trouba at $8M as of now looks bad, but maybe it’s just bad coaching. Fox will need an extension in a few years so it’s not easy to pay so much $ on defense. Thankfully Staal and Skjei only have 1 more year.</div></div>
The Leafs are in a cap crunch and the Rangers are about to be, Georgiev + Deangelo + Strome are gonna eat up cap pretty quick. Talbot and Raanta both got deals of 4+ million and I don't think that's something the leafs can afford to spend on a back up with most of their Defence heading to free agency.
I would guess Georgiev goes to a team hoping he can be an immediate starter for a package of picks/prospects. I know most Rangers fans are hoping he's going for a younger NHL forward but there is a cap element to the trade. If the Rangers say they will just hold on to him once he signs a new deal it will be harder to trade him with how tight teams are and most trades having to be money in money out.

His value is about a 2nd and a 3rd tops. He is not worth a 50 point winger.</div></div>
Ranger fans obviously over value georgiev and Leafs fan over value Kapanen.
But historically speaking goalies don’t bring in established players of the same age. What young goalies with starter potential have been traded for a package that includes a good young roster player + ?
Anderson was traded to the Leafs for a 1st & 2nd
Bobrovsky was traded to the Jackets for a 2nd & 2-4ths
Bernier was traded to the Leafs for scrivens, Frattin and a 2nd
Kings traded Martin Jones + Colin Miller + 1st for Milan Lucic
Boston then flipped Martin Jones for Sean Kuraly and a 1st
Georgiev has looked good but has not played enough games to warrant a package of an established player + IMO. A package of a promising A or B prospect with a pick 1st or 2nd depending on the prospect is what should get it done.

I’m not saying he’s a bad player but I have seen trades on here where he’s bringing back massive packages and just stated his save percentage. I would be happy if the Leafs made a move for Georgiev since he would definitely be an upgrade, but if it turns into a bidding war where the leafs are giving up a solid roster player in their top 9 for a back up goalie then I don’t see that as a smart investment and would be fine with him going to Calgary in that case.

Go ahead, Georgiev may have potential and so do 30 other goalies in 30 other markets but his save percentage is stil .909 which is below league average. There are tons of examples of promising goalies that don't pan out, which is why you don't get roster players for them you get AHL players with potential or prospects with potential or picks.
