<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlastnyFromThePastny</b></div><div>Really? I mean I know it's been a tricky year for scouting but the guy often touted as going 1st overall isn't projected to be elite? Why is he touted as going 1st overall? Where are the elite defensemen in this draft?</div></div>

He's being highly touted because a lot of non-american prospects didn't play many games and if they did, it was overseas thus being hard to see them as well as it being hard to get good video of them.

I'm not sure I'm allowed to put links in a thread, but try <a href="https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/topdownhockey/viz/NHLEquivalencyandProspectProjections/ProspectProjections" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">draft projections</a>clicking this, there is a guy who has been working on models like this where he tries to project how prospects would develop throughout their NHL careers. He gives them a % chance of playing in the NHL and % chance of becoming a star.

Power has a 97% of being an NHLer (200+ games) but only a 17% chance at being a star. And from watching him play at Michigan a bit, I'd say its fairly accurate. His size and skating ability will make him have a long NHL career, but his skill and decision making is average at best. He'll be a very good player, but not one I would pick with the first overall pick.

And to answer the question about the elite defencemen, I'd say Clarke has a better chance at becoming a legitimate top pairing guy

Just check it out and play around with it a bit, I find it really interesting because he has been pretty spot on with his predictions in the past!
