Thinking adding Kovalchuk would help with our PP, having the option of spurge, Dumba, and him would be nice. Also having a bonifide Russian with Khovanov, Sokolov, and Kipirsov coming through. Obviously getting rid of Rask adding a minnesotan with size. Figuring Forbort working with Doughty would be useful in pairing with Dumba. LA could pair Doughty with Brodin and they could log a ton of minutes, add rask for depth through the middle.

My question with Coyle is this... If he likes it here, then why not hold onto him and try to sign him to a long term contract at a discount? he's a very useful 2/3C. If the wild end up in a rebuild then he's holding a spot while young guys develop. If they become competitive then he's a discounted player that allows for money to be spent else where. I think the price of centers is going to become extremley high, so if we can keep Coyle for say 6 years at around what he's making now I think we should wait till this summer to find out.

I don't see that happening. Greenway Spurge and Coyle are too valuable. In all honesty at this point I'm not sure there is anyone on the leafs outside the big three that the Wild would trade spurge for.

IMO all those pieces are expendable. I'm not high on either of those guys, but... Maybe Ryan finds more of his old form with Bruce and maybe Matt wants to play the Avs four times a year in the future. If so then we have a 1C/2C. Coyle finds his legs again we have alot of speed down the middle for next year.

The way mn is playing right now I think they would be extremley interested in Nelson or lee at the deadline. Theyre playing heavy hockey and bringing physical forwards back home would be of interest.

I think its worth noting that he's competing for,ice time with zucker, parise, and granlund. On a different team where they have an obvious dominant 1c and 2c I think Nino does really well. Koivu and Staal get their points but they dont have the legs to drive play. Put Nino on a team with some good center depth... Heaven forbid Colorado and he would be pushing 30 goals

I realize Karlson is probably more expensive, but... If he liked Ottawa I think we would have a shot at resigning him. We don't have any giant checks to sign in the near future with our core locked up and no future 30 goal scorers coming off entry level deals.
With Simmonds we give them defensive help to compete this season. Hus price is probably higher at the deadline but right now,he's a third line wing and they need pieces to compete.

Here is the thing about Brodin.. He's a stay at home Defenseman, but he's not the typical Oger type, he's the excellent skating type. Dumba would not be where he is at if he hadn't been having Brodin covering for him allowing him into the line-up these past few years. Brodin is a very affordable contract with term and his ability to defend "with his feet"/skate is what makes him valuable, especially with the way the NHL is trending.
