'Fragile' as he replaces the 1C with another point per game center. Look around at other teams and realize how much better off Toronto is if their 1C gets hurt compared to most. Thank god we have better options than Casey Mittelstadt.

This would seem to be the logical direction for the rest of the offseason. I do question how much Sandin will make he has very few (if any) NHL contract comparables, GP,pts etc. I really think Sandins camp has him wanting 2 mill to 2.5 for two years and the leafs have him between 900k and 1.5 mill on a two year deal. Remember he has no negotiating power with no arbitration rights. So the Leafs can basically offer whatever they want and Sandins only two options is to sign or sit out the season.

I mean, McDonagh got back Philippe Myers (a guy who's washed out of Philadelphia and Nashville already, to the point where the Preds just let him play on Toronto's AHL team just to at least let him get some ice time somewhere) and Grant Mismash - a 23 year old who put up 12 points in 57 AHL games this year (as a forward, in case you were wondering). Myers' cap hit is $2.55M, too, so Tampa only got back about $4M against this year's cap - probably meaning that Toronto has to take back a bad contract in the $1.5Mish range and might get a C tier prospect in return.

Reasonable to me. I do think keeping Kerfoot is more important than keeping Muzzin - Giordano’s contract allows that to happen.

This was a team that was in the playoff race till late in the season last year. Adding a vet like Muzzin to provide some leadership and toughness to young group could be really good</div></div>
But note that Strome was signed for 5 seasons, not 2 -- i.e., to carry into what we anticipate will be the opening of our window of contention. That's why I think we'll hang on to John Gibson for the same exact time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>chefed</b></div><div>Do you think you get Muzzin for free and get an additional asset .Only in LA LA LAND</div></div>
We're not getting Muzzin for free. It's costing us $5.625 million in cap space and giving you the ability to add two $2.5 million cap hit players without having to trade anyone away, like Alex Kerfoot. So you're getting three benefits here.

I will be happy to revisit this IF and when Muzzin gets traded, which today's signing of PIerre Engvall makes even more imperative. But I think that Dubas will give Kerfoot away instead, because I can't see Muzzin waiving his NTC for anywhere other than a playoff contender likely to want him and able to afford him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MatthewsFan</b></div><div>“Hope that makes sense”
Mrazek was a cap dump.
Muzzin absolutely still has value. Yes, his injury his is absolutely a concern but came back healthy for the playoffs and played extremely well with Brodie.
Muzzin would not be a cap dump, he still has value.
I absolutely believe they would not be interested in just having cap space should they move him. This trade does not make sense in comparison to the Mrazek deal.
Muzzin has value 🤷♂️</div></div>
I think that you're failing to see that a player (in this case Muzzin) can have two different values to different teams.
Mrazek was a cap dump to both teams, while Muzzin still has significant on-ice value . . . I don't think otherwise, let alone dispute that. So he's not a cap dump to Toronto, but he is to Anaheim because the Ducks aren't acquiring him for on-ice value since Anaheim isn't close to making the playoffs in the next two seasons and Muzzin isn't going to get them there. The only reason why the Ducks would acquire Muzzin and his massive cap hit is for an incentive. Without the incentive, there's no deal.

R-E-L-A-X - Read Desc
Excellently put. The headlines change depending on the situation to stir up hate clicks and engagements. All season, Campbell was "not a starter", injured, and terrible aside from one month. Now that he's not a Leaf, we are missing a "key piece" who is being talked about like a must-see, Vezina candidate. Mikheyev is good, but he wanted way too much and got WAY too much. Kase was stellar, but there were too many question marks. The Marlies graduates are going to fill in just nicely in this lineup. Robertson is top 6 ready, Anderson has NHL experience and has been great in our system. Sandin and Liljegren have taken the next step. Engvall was better than Mikheyev during some stretches this season. Murray has experience and is a guy who wants to prove something, and Samsonov is young and being taught by the same man who created the monster we know as Thatcher Demko. This is my least favourite time of year because everyone simultaneously dunks on the Leafs for what they do and what they dont do. Realistically, we have done exactly what we have to, but because we havent loaded up on high end talent (Ie. Detroit, Ottawa) we are worse off now. We already have high end talent that is top 2 in the division. Its also only been 2 whole days of FA, and you dont build a team through FA anyways.

Yanni Gourde
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BallPuckFellow10</b></div><div>Personally think you'd have to add a sweater to the deal for Seattle to accept. Don't think Kerfoot + Holl is enough.
<strong>Why are Toronto in need for cap relief in this move?</strong> I am trading for Gourde, not dumping Kerfoot & Holl. I believe Gourde to be a better player than Kerfoot with more offensive upside & just better game in general. Also has the experience winning with Tampa that never hurts. Think he 100% is worth that deal. He can either play 2LW or 2C depending on what the coach wants. He is an all situation type guys as well which is useful.
Seattle now have 2 young C studs that will play in the top 9 plus Wennberg. Geekie can be the 4C. Kerfoot is a versatile middle 6 option that only is owed $750k in real dollars this season. If Seattle aren't a playoff team, you can deal that at the TDL for some nice picks. Same goes for Holl. A 3rd pairing defenseman that has experience playing 20 minutes a night can be dealt at the TDL for picks too. I believe the return for Kerfoot & Holl at the TDL plus the sweetener from the original deal would be a greater haul for Seattle than what they could get for Gourde alone.
Obviously welcome to disagree.</div></div>
I don't disagree with 99% of your analysis. My point is the one <strong>you</strong> make in this construction: with 21 players on the roster and only a New-York-steak-dinner-for-four's cost below the ceiling, Toronto is in need of all the cap relief every transaction can give them.

I like this move a lot from Ottawa's perspective.</div></div>

My thoughts on the Leafs
Don't get me wrong, I love Zach Hyman in every shape and form, but the problem I saw was that he had to take many roles, and by taking the specific role, he can't have another role at the same. You want a pest, you got it, but it limits his offensive ability. You want him to be a shutdown player? Sure, but now you can't use him as an offensive player. With Ritchie, Kampf, Bunting, and Kase, we have players that filled the role Hyman had, but we're not sacrificing anything. You want a shutdown player? Here is Kampf. You want a pest? Here is Bunting. You want someone to hit everything that moves? Here is Ritchie. You want two elements on the same line like an offensive player and someone who hits, here is Kase and Ritchie

My thoughts on the Leafs
Imo it’s unfair to compare the leafs at the end of last season to the beginning of this season. They have yet to make any mid season trades. If you compare the leafs at the beginning of last season to this season, it’s better. Remember when Thornton and vesey were our top 6 LW’s? Now it’s bunting and kerfoot, (at least that’s what I’d do). The bottom six is better than it was at the start of last year. With all these new guys they brought in, I feel that they replaced Hyman by committee with both his cap hit and everything he brought to the team, which was the right thing to do. Hyman will be at this level for the next 2 years max. I would not wanna be stuck with his current contract, with having almost no depth on the rest of the roster.

How the Wild can fit both Kaprizov and Hertl
I agree with most of your assessment on this. I do think Hertl costs a bit more in trade. Possibly add in Greenway. I know Khusnutdinov is good so maybe he can carry this trade.
I expect Wild to try and re-sign Goligoski to a team friendly deal, but I've heard it speculated that the Wild believe Lambos is closer than most would think.

Oh, I'm aware. But as a Wild fan I would still be comfortable doing it. Even though I love Marat Khusnutdinov as a prospect. The kid has near Mackinnon level speed and is only getting better and better. But the guy I personally comp Marat to is.... Hertl. Hertl to me is what Khusnutdinov likely ends up as, just faster. It'll probably take Khusnutdinov 4-5 years just to get to be the same level of player as Hertl is now.
In this instance, I think it’s okay to move out the future potential for the currently finished product.
