Please enlighten us all since you started to say you could flip Marner for more at the deadline unless it was “grossly messed up.” Give one scenario or one realistic trade at the deadline with Marner going to a contender for better return than MM/TZ/2nd rounder.</div></div>

You're right but Robertson could still be Toronto's best prospect, people just have fatigue over hearing about him (which is understandable). Don't worry, the Knies fatigue will come in 1-2 years and you'll see people looking to trade him for superstars on here as soon as the Leafs get a newer, shinier prospect.

Again, you are looking at it from ONE perspective. You see 34 goals, 97 points, 25 years old. People outside Toronto see a very skilled, elite winger. They see robin to Mattman.

You look at McTavish and Zegras and see two players that don’t give Marner’s value currently. Others see two potential number 1 centers, or potentially one of the best 1-2 center punches in the NHL for the next 10 years.

Just wanna pop in and say that I think the Toronto media hypes up its prospects too quickly. A guy like Robertson is following a completely normal development curve, while battling through two really brutal injuries and putting up elite 2-way numbers in the AHL. Only a handful of guys are doing better than him (such as Jack Quinn).

Like, Leafs can win a round without having to add another star player... MAYBE. Bringing Tampa to 7 shows that they should be able to beat a less potent team. We'll see what happens, I guess.

With the Leafs, it's a different problem every year why they lose, imo. Bad defense, bad forward depth, bad coaching, stars don't show up, no depth scoring. Worse goaltending every year, too. But it's not always the same reason why they lose.

The Leafs' flaws will be exposed this season. If they need more punch up front, maybe a trade like this is revisited if the Canucks get off to a bad start, but I think the Canucks will surprise some people this year. Pettersson should have a bounce back year, and another year of development for Hughes + the added depth is really nice for them in a weaker Pacific division.
