Flames are probably open to trading Mangiapane but not at that level of return for that much retention

Well the asking price is a first plus a good prospect and maybe a 3rd asset, so start with that i’d say.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>You seem to undervalue young ELCs vastly. Which is okay. But stop asking for them.
Mercer wasn't on the table for Meier, he isn't on the table for Markstrom. Again, I am HAPPY to pay multiple 1sts instead of Mercer. But you can't demand Mercer and then not value Mercer at the same time.
Mercer for Andersson (or I can sub in 1st+1st+2nd+3rd or equivalent in futures, Holtz+1st, Casey+1st+2nd)
Marino for Hanifin (4 years of cheap term, if you don't want him he can be shipped off to buffalo or toronto or anywhere else for futures instead which you can have)</div></div>
I am valuing Mercer which is why i'm even entertaining a discussion for a defencemen who isn't available but the fact is that he's been vastly disappointing this season and he his ELC ends this season while Andersson is far too valuable to trade for a winger (or part-time center if you prefer), and at the end of the day Andersson is likely the Flames next captain and most valuable player and to pry him from us you have to knock our expectations out of the park and Mercer alone doesn't get that done.
Again, Marino for Hanifin isn't good value for the Flames maybe if the assets you got for him were equal to a mid first round pick and a good young prospect but I somehow doubt you'll get that from another team, although I may be wrong on that one because I haven't seen Marino perform much this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Extension in place isn't a real thing that increases the value in any meaningful way. Either you get a better offer from a team or you don't.
Mercer for Andersson 1 for 1 if you want that. Ofc NJD has no real need for Andersson considering Hamilton comes back next season so depends on what we could sell Marino for, or Andersson+Hanifin for Marino+Mercer</div></div>
That easily gets declined, not even close to fair value for both dmen, Mercer alone isn't worth Andersson and that gap isn't made up by Marino especially with Hanifin included, that's just pure delusion.
By extension in place I mean that he communicates to the team that he is willing to sign an extension there which would give the GM security in any potential trades which logically increases his value and betters our position as the one selling him, the same thing happened with Tkachuk.
If it is a pure rental trade then sure that value is fine but if bidding occurs between teams he's willing to sign with, then the value becomes much better than your offer.

2024 1st+2nd+Casey (or 1st+1st+2nd+3rd if you prefer picks) for Andersson.</div></div>
You can't get someone that's unavailable without giving someone up that's unavailable and any conversation for Andersson begins with Mercer and if he isn't included the Flames immediately hang up.
As for a rental Hanifin that is pretty good value but not enough if there is an extension in place which I think there will be soon enough (...hopefully)

Hanifin and Guentzel but no future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bolts03</b></div><div>Can swap Howard and Gauthier in those trades. Both have similar values and in my opinion Gauthier has more potential.
I have a feeling both of us might be disappointed with the deal. If he doesn't go to Tampa he will be viewed as a rental and you won't end up with the return you're hoping for.</div></div>
People thought the same thing with the Tkachuk trade until he said he would sign with Florida, now however that trade has aged its the fact that a player can have more than one destination where he will sign long term.
Im fairly confident that Hanifin will sign long term wherever he’s traded and just cause Tampa is his first option doesn’t mean they’re his only option.

Hanifin and Guentzel but no future
No first round pick, no isaac howard, there’s just no way the flames trade him to a team that essentially has no assets.
If you’re expecting Hanifin to be a Lightning then I think you’ll be pretty disappointed at the deadline.

Insane Possibility 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>No one knows what Calgary is doing... My guess is they are still hoping toi compete next season. Heard ownership nixed a deal to send Markstrom to NJ.... Sold some pkayers off but are still within playoff reach. If they do go into rebuild mode they definitely don't make the deal. However if they are planning on re-tooling in the offseason I could see them interested because he does come cheap for one more year.</div></div>
Don't take that quote too seriously it was from Frank Seravalli who also reported that Dube wasn't involved in the scandal, he's an absolute clown and a hack.
I think it's safe to say with the selling of Lindholm and Tanev recently the mindset of management is to retool and sell off expiring assets, they also refuse to retain salary which suggests they’re looking to accumulate cap space and it wouldn't make sense for a selling team to trade big assets for a guy who is a UFA next season and can hold them ransom just like our UFAs from this and last season, it would be awful asset management.

Insane Possibility 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>You are aware right.... That where the Flames currently sit, it is impossible for them to pick in the first 2 spots... Plus obviously the pick would have conditions like being top 10 protected....</div></div>
It doesn’t matter Chychrun isn’t reliable enough to trade away multiple picks and not to mention they are likely not competing for a few years which would make retaining him nearly impossible.
