I was the biggest Bo Horvat hater right after the trade and before the season. Reality is he's been playing like a top 20 center this season. He's been a perfect fit on the isles.

stop trading for keller
In the defense of others, they got a laughable return for Chychrun, and could have gotten more for Ghost if the showed any amount of competence in that front office. At this point it wouldn't be surprising if the traded Keller for an Outback Steakhouse gift card, and a bottle of Zima.

If CBJ gets 1 overall enough or too much
What they all said. Columbus has only drafted one star in its history (Rick Nash). They cannot take the chance of missing out on the chance that Bedard is a sliver of McDavid or Crosby.
But to be fair, I’ll answer your question. That is not enough. Actually, that’s the wrong answer to the wrong question. Enough seems to imply quantity. CBJ has had too many mid-first round caliber (tier four) players, way too many tweener picks (late first, early second) and WAY, WAY, WAY too many 50-75 overall players. They can trot out third lines for days and days on end.
Throw in a handful of high-but-not-elite picks/players and you have the Jackets. Or this package. Or both.
This upcoming draft has one franchise player. One more elite player (Fantilli). One final reliably predictable near future impact player (Carlsson). [Michkov brings the typical Russian delay questions, plus the added ones in the 2023 climate. Plus, CBJ have a bad history with top-5 Russians.] The Canadiens 2023 pick would fall outside all of those players, into a tier “Tankathon” classifies as “the rest.” At best, in a different draft, it yields a B+ player (Jiricek, Kent Johnson). This year, the cliff seems to drop after the top four.
The Panthers pick and Caufield fall in the Sillinger/Mateychuk range. You get a 2.5 line forward or 2nd pair defenseman with a deficiency somewhere in his game. You need those players on your team. But if your team is nothing BUT those players, you win just two playoff series in franchise history (one of which barely counts, as it was a bonus COVID round plus a freebie since it was against Toronto).
The rest (unless the Habs 1st ‘24 ends up like top 3) are just lottery tickets. You might get a Sebastian Aho. Or you might get the other Sebastian Aho. Not a sound way to build a franchise. A solid way to add final pieces to a contender, but not the path from last to first.
Bedard is clearly the prize, and any trade discussions are a non-starter. Unless you’re willing to include Shane Wright. Oh wait…

I'm willing to bet that after watching him play a full season in the NHL, i'd likely change my answer.
But right now, you're telling me that Jarmo turns down the best player on the planet for a guy who hasn't laced em up against guys older than 19? I'd call you crazy.

People are def undervaluing having a super star at a 950k cap hit for 3 years. I'm not gonna call Bedard as good as any of those players YET, but think 2 years down the line in the last year of his ELC... You may have a McDavid level player on a $950k cap hit... That's priceless and no one can give up enough value for that.

Timo to Islanders
If this deal is closer to the deadline, there's no need for the Sharks to retain anything - as it stands right now the Isles will have at least $11M in equivalent cap space at the deadline, so no need to include Bailey either. If the Sharks view Beauvillier as an attractive asset, I'd have no problem including him, but again - I'd only count him as positive value if San Jose wants him. If you see him as offsetting cap that lowers the Islanders offer, then don't include him - it won't be necessary.
I think if you separate that out of this package, it's not awful. Odelus/Dufour/'23 1st/'24 2nd for Meier. Merkley isn't necessary to add - I do *like* him as a player but I think that's too much for the Sharks to send back. They should be hanging on to dudes like that in a rebuild, not shipping them out. I know that San Jose has 49 contracts currently in their org, so if they need to add a body back to make that work I'd be fine taking back a Jaycob Megna/Scott Harrington/Matt Nieto type in that case.
I think this package depends on how strongly you feel about the prospects. Odelus is an 18 year old playing every day in a Swedish professional league after being picked in the 2nd round this year; Dufour might only be a 5th round pick but he had a monster season last year in the Q (56-60-116 in 66 GP!) and has looked very good so far in the AHL (7-4-11 in 18 GP.) I don't see Lou trading out Raty for a rental, but if you don't like these guys I'm sure he'd offer up Sam Bolduc (3-15-18 in 19 GP as Bridgeport's LD1) or Simon Holmstrom (probably middle-6 ceiling on him) in addition to those picks.

Habs fans are still clinging on to the hope that Lou trades for Josh Anderson when there has been no legit claims from any insiders that the islanders are even interested in him.
What is true though is that Hughes originally asked for Beauvillier months before the draft when the islanders inquired about Romanov - Lou declined. When Dach was made available that’s when Hughes had to panic and accept a trade for a package without Beauvillier

Shout out to you for not understanding what points per 60 is, it’s not manipulated. It straight up puts every player on the same level to see which players are most efficient in the minutes they get.
They are not close at even strength and Anders Lee is elite on the powerplay, while anderson is one of the worst powerplay forwards in the league. Lee also drives offense, Anderson is a passenger. They aren’t close in terms of overall impact no matter you say. I already posted the facts, if you want to ignore them that’s on you
