In theory does this work
Neither Brown or Zaitsev are worth a second round pick, including Brown would be the part to try to get the wings to take Zaitsev. So Detroit would say no.
Bowey and Ozhiganov are 6/7 Dmen and they should not be playing in the first and second pair. Liljegren is at least another year away from being ready.

Funny a couple years ago Edmonton traded a high scoring winger for a young defensive D-man on a reasonable contract.

Leafs Fans Opinions Please
Just taking a peek at Stone's numbers he is pretty awful defensively and his offence has all but dried up. He makes too much money for a third pair D and the Leafs would be better off playing their young players(Dermott, Borgman & Carrick) and getting them experience.

Not sure why so many people think Alzner is a 1st pair Dman, analytics wise he is on par with Hunwick. Why pay him 3 times what you need to pay Hunwick?

No crazy UFA signings
JVR for Bieksa is an awful trade, you might as well let JVR play out his contract as he is a much more valuable player then Bieska. Bieksa would basically play the same role as Polak (who you over paid) so there really is no point and having both of them. Even the second option you mention of getting picks and prospects is better then getting Bieksa, picks and prospects might turn into something or be able to used in other trades. Ben Smith is a AHL calibre player and his expansion draft eligibility is his only usefullness, the leafs should be looking at options to fill the 4c position and bury him in the AHL.

Wow, you might wanna look for another AGM unless you guys plan on being the Burke and Nonis of this site. Your giving up a draft pick to get rid of a fourth line center in Fehr. Then you turn around and give up prospects to bring in two fourth line centers, poor asset management. So now the leafs are spending over 9 million on its 10-13 forward positions, poor cap management. BTW Nielsen put up 70 points in his last year of junior and 39 points as an AHL rookie. Bryce Salvador put up 40 points in his last year of junior and only 10 points in his first year of the AHL and he was a year older, in 3 AHL seasons he averaged 13 points/season when scoring in the AHL was 20% higher then it is now. Big difference in the way they play the game.

No offense but if he "knows the game" he'd know that Leivo and Leipsic need to clear waivers to go to the Marlies (both will get claimed), and it's not likely at all that Sosh or Kap get sent down after their time in the NHL unless they have a poor training camp. The Leafs are also not deep at center or defense so trading a couple of their top prospects at each position doesn't make sense. I think you value faceoffs too much (I know Babs likes good faceoff guys so I won't be hard about that) . The signings are close to fair value but I'm not a fan of the Polak or Smith getting term.</div></div>
See above.

Dream Offseason
Leafs already have one over paid 4th line winger, we don't need another. Why pay Versteeg 3 million to play on the 3rd line when you have Hyman for almost half that. Why would we give up draft picks, when the leafs really don't have any important players they can lose in the expansion draft. I really doubt they will pay Brown that much for that long.

If that's what it takes
The leafs are in year 2 of a rebuild giving up a 2nd round pick for a 3rd pair dman makes no sense when he will most likely be a free agent this summer. The fact that 28 other teams wouldn't give up a 3rd round pick for him, why would the leafs turn around and now give up a 2nd round pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_cap</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ACLeafs</b></div><div>Ughhh you managed to make the Leafs worse. If the Leafs were to sign Ben Smith to a league minimum contract I would be disappointed, over the summer they should be able to find someone better then him. Kalinin was literally a move to help the Marlies, he is basically a fringe player who will be most likely be back in the KHL next year, not sure why the Leafs would give him a raise and a two year contract. The leafs should not retain any money on JVR no matter what the trade.</div></div>
I don't think I made them worse at all. Your opinion isn't very validated. I just signed Ben Smith because he was on the Leafs roster. I'm sure they can sign someone better. Kalinin's move was to be made with the Marlies. The Leafs will be just fine with retaining his contract because it's only a year left. Just look at the Kessel deal. If they want a better return then they will have to retain some of his contract.</div></div>
Kessel was making 8 million a season, JVR makes almost half that. Girgensons is an RFA, since there is no trade I am assuming offer sheet, I think the Sabres would match that. In your current lineup, you are replacing JVR with Leivo and Nylander with Kapanen, JVR and Nylander are then better players, hence weaker lineup. Bowey is a decent prospect but he is yet to play a single NHL game, so to plug him in with Rielly on the 1st d pair is a huge over assumption of his skill.

JVR has a very low cap hit for a guy who puts up 25-30 goals a season, I can't see the Leafs retaining salary on a JVR trade.

Leafs rumour
The rumour literally makes no sense, both teams are looking to add defensemen not swap them. Toronto doesn't need Duchene and his large salary, they have 6 forwards with more points then him this season and none of them cost anywhere close to Duchene.

Leafs trade for debate
Why would you give up that much for a guy, you might be able to get for free in the summer. Also the leafs are looking to add a top 4 rh dman to their group not swap top 4 rh dman. Even though Shattenkirk is an upgrade it still leaves the leafs in the situation of only having 3 good dmen and having to pay twice as much to sign Shttenkirk then Zaitsev in the summer.

Hopeful off-season trades
The reason Arizona has Pronger is because its a 5M cap hit but only $575, 000 in actual salary. They are not trading that contract which helps them get to the cap floor for nothing. You are way over-valuing Bernier and way over paying all the leafs prospects.

UFA's and Trades!!
You are over-valuing Helm, last thing the leafs need is another over-payed 3rd/4th liner, much better to play Hyman or Sohsnikov on the 3rd line. Why even bother drafting Matthews just to play him with Michalek and Helm.
