Description
Toronto acquires true 1st pairing RHD whose prime will coincide with the Leafs' young core. Leafs also get OHL's top scorer who will be showcased at every major international tournament this season.

STL receives a premier offensive forward who may be tried at center at some point. STL downgrades on RHD strength, but gets security equal to losing Parayko in Zaitsev's term.

I would say 1b, with Pietrangelo being 1a

This season hes averaging over 23 minutes per game. Of course he is behind Pietrangelo so he isn't getting absolute exposure. Parayko is also taking a higher percentage of defensive zone starts compared to Pietrangelo.

He is or at least projects to be. I just wonder if you get both players from the leafs

people throw these term # 1 defencemen around rather loosely. how many really are there is the nhl? you would think if having all these #1 rhd, the Blues would be a more successful team. but the leafs trading their #1 rhd for an blues rhd doesn't help the leafs that much. leafs need to improve their bottom end defencemen not to switch around their top defencemen especially at the cost of nylander.

Nylander for Parayko (maybe, but doubtful). But you'd never get both Nylander and Zaitsev for a questionable 1D and a B-level prospect.

You must be confused about St. Louis' defense. STL is a successful team because of its defense.

In the past 3 years STL's defense has been top 5 NHL regardless of which defensive metrics you look at. On special teams STL's PK has been ranked top 5 in that same time-frame. If you really get nerdy about it you can argue that STL has maintained the best defense in the league based on a wide range of metrics.

This trade makes Toronto worse in the short and long term so no deal. Leafs don't have the center depth to be dealing Nylander or the right defense depth to trade one even for an upgrade

bjprice, you just confirmed why maybe it's isn't good deal for the leafs. you claim that st Louis has had one of the best league's defence for years. and I agree. and despite of that they have good seasons but really not much success in the playoffs. so why to the leafs make the trade? you've just confirmed that having this great defnece does not lead to playoff success.
so many people on this site have hoisted trades upon the leafs for tanev, doughty, parayko and weber, with the thought that the leafs can give up so much because the believe is that this one defenceman will lead the leafs to the Cup. what has tanvev, parayko and weber done.. and even with doughty the kings missed the playoffs last year. I'm jus saying it's a team game.

Leafs can't and won't do it. Zaitsev is our 2nd/3rd best defenseman. We need to keep him.

Parayko is a great player, would be a perfect fit, but giving up Nylander PLUS Zaitsev is a no go.

Overpayment by the Leafs. Plus, Nylander is basically untouchable along with Marner and Matthews.

It's a really interesting idea, but it's a bit on STL's side in terms of value.

Jordan Kyrou isn't a B level prospect lol.
