We’ve been clear that this has been a down season for Saros. But one down season doesn’t mean he’s not elite anymore.

For example, since you’re a Buffalo fan I’ll use their players, do the down seasons Thompson and Cozens are having mean their values have crashed to a 2nd round pick and a 4th line player, and that they’ll never bounce back to what they did last season?

No, but it does mean their value has most likely DROPPED,
    just like Saros has

And Saros having a “down year” does- IN FACT- mean that he literally isn’t playing at an “elite” level
It’s possible he gets back to an elite level,
but YOUR OWN WORDS ADMIT that he isn’t currently “elite”

Just bc u THINK he will bounce back,
    it doesn’t mean he will
All we know is how he’s playing now,
    and it’s NOT “elite”

    Wow dude
    Words matter

Except he’s actually 31st out of 87 goalies in GSAx this season, and among goalies with 25+ GP he’s ahead of Thompson, Merzlikins, Georgiev, Kuemper, Kochetkov, Hart, Dostal, Oettinger, Vasilevskiy, Fleury, Vejmelka, Wedgewood, Samsonov, Gustavsson, Vanecek, and Korpisalo

    Quoting: AntiAnalytics
    And he’s BEHIND how many?
    Oh yeah, THIRTY

    Hmmmmmmm….?

I said "starting goalies" there aren't 87 starting goalies.

And even if we are going by all goalies the 31st placed goalie would be the second worst starter.

You can manipulate your numbers as much as you want. The facts keep proving you wrong.

But moving the goalposts is the only way to remotely make any sense at all of his narrative 🤣🤣🤣

You said the only starters he has more GSAx than we’re Korpisalo, Gustavsson, Vanecek, and Samsonov. Yet the facts prove that he’s also ahead of Merzlikins, Oettinger, Vasilevskiy, Hart, and Kuemper as well. Not to mention numerous other goalies who have played 25+ games. So you were proven wrong by facts

Those goalies aren't considered "starters" cause they haven't played enough. Either due to injury or being in jail.

The FACT is that it’s LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to have 87 starting goalies for 32 teams
    Holy hell dude

You’re digging yourself a pit you’ll never get out of

25+ games played doesn’t make you a “starter”
That’s just an arbitrary number you’re using
The “starting” goalie is simply the goalie who plays the most
    There are 32 starting goalies
If u wanna stretch the meaning of “starting” then u could try to argue some teams have co-starters who essentially split time- but there aren’t 87 of them

So by your logic are there only 15 starting goalies in the league? Because Oettinger is 16th in games played among goalies. Vasilevskiy is 21st

Show me where I said there are 87 starting goalies in the league? I said out of the 87 total goalies. Then I showed the goalies that have played 25+ games (a reasonable workload to compare with) that he’s ahead of

What is the point of comparing Saros to the backups of the league when trying to say how good he is???
    Makes no sense

If u wanna try & say he’s elite, he needs to be compared to the best- NOT the average & mediocre

So clearly you either can’t read or totally ignored the part where I compared him to goalies who have played minimum 25 games up to full time starters.

And do you not think Sorokin, Shesterkin, Vasilevskiy, or Oettinger are elite either? Sorokin has only been slightly better than Saros, Shesterkin has been very similar, while Oettinger and Vasilevskiy have both been worse than Saros this year

Bc someone has been elite in their PAST, that doesn’t mean they’ll stay elite in their future- or even are STILL in the present

And comparing Saros to a widened base to make him look better is a desperate tactic from the defeated side of a debate
    Nice try though (not really)

I’m just asking since you clearly think Saros isn’t good anymore if you have the same opinion about those goalies. Because they’re playing at a similar or worse level than Saros is. But you seem too scared to answer it because you’ll be exposed as a hypocrite. Or you actually think guys like UPL, Daccord, Ingram, and Mrazek are better than those goalies which would show a severe lack of hockey knowledge on your end

I’m not afraid, it’s just a nonsense way to frame the argument
The problem is that u seem to be defining how good a player is by their body of work
While I’m more concerned with how they’re currently playing

It doesn’t mean UPL will continue to play better,
but it does mean he is CURRENTLY playing better
    It’s not that complicated

I can’t predict the future like u though
I’ll go by what i can see currently and what i can reasonably project based on how players have been trending,
not how they played 2 or 3 or 5 years ago

Your thinking has gone the way of the dinosaur
    But good luck with it

    We get it….
Saros is better than the 30 something backups in the league
    Congrats on proving the obvious

And at the risk of stating the obvious once again…
who freaking cares if Saros is better than backups???
That doesn’t prove he’s STILL good

U can move the goalposts from side to side all u want,
but it does t get u closer to the end zone

I don't have to guess. GUESS who votes on the Vezina trophy? 32 NHL GMs. And Saros was 4th last year. So even in a down year I doubt their opinion of him has fallen that much.

I've given you truth. You just don't want to admit that both of our opinions have merit.

    Lol
Masquerading your OPINION as the “truth” eliminates any MERIT to your arguments
    Sorry

This isn’t about his trade value for me. I could care less what a team is willing to trade for him. This is about him being a top 6 goalie in the league. I won’t deny he’s having a down year, but he is viewed around the league as at least a top 10 goalie. Not analytically this year I’ll admit that. But positionally I’d struggle to find 6 or 10 guys better than Juuse Saros, that I’d rather have going into next season

And trying to frame this debate around what YOU would personally have going into next year also removes any sort of merit at all from your points

Maybe if he likes Saros so much the Canucks can trade Demko to Toronto for two 1sts and they can spend 10 1sts or whatever he wants on Saros.
